Unfortunately, at this point the cricket's rarity is random. As such, you could get very lucky and get a rare. Or you could get unlucky and get a poor quality cricket.

And unfortunately, the only ways to get a rare (if yours isn't) are to get Best Friend with Sho on an alt and try again, or to buy the cricket off of someone who managed to get a rare. In 5.1 you'll be able to upgrade it with a rare upgrade stone, but they're not going to be too easy to come by.

Hilariously, this Red Cricket has more Power than ANY other Battle Pet. Its HP and Speed are awful as a result (they're cut into heavily as a penalty for the high Power), but it can do some crazy damage (and healing).

This probably explains the pet's massive physical size as well.

Edit: Actually, Lil' Ragnaros is a double strength breed and has (very) slightly higher power. See http://schaffhauser.me/Warcraft#PetBreeds (and go to Pet Ranking).

Red Cricket like all pets that you get as a quest chain reward or grind for have no rarety rating, it isnt grey blue or green- if you compare stats it's pretty much in line with all the other rares, as are almost all the "Reward" pets..... I have a LOT of pets- to compare stats to

The Red Cricket no longer gets as big as it does in the screenshot I submitted with a Magical Pet Biscuit as of patch 5.1.

Sadly, this pet's size has been nerfed to that of a normal cricket. No more crickets that are able to devour gnomes, people.

It seems these guys are now Rare quality upon learning them. I had two common quality ones learned and after the recent patch, both of them were upgraded to rares.

It's too bad they nerfed the size. I rather liked watching my crickee jump over my character's heads.
