Probably spawns only at certain times or triggered by an event (not weather because in Zangarmarsh is always rainy) , checked at ~10.30 am server time and I couldn't find one, tried again at 6:40 pm and at least 10 of em were roaming inside Sporeggar; tried to battle as many as I could to find a rare one and respawn was pretty fast, but after 15 minutes they stopped spawning.

So we're going to Sporeggar, siccing vicious animals on the children, putting them in cages and kidnapping them. And none of the adults bat an eye? And they wonder why they're so close to extinction.

Spawn rate seems erratic. I've only seen 1 in an hour. He was grey.

i think this is what you should follow if you are hunting a rare

poor - 140 below

common - 150 below

uncommon - 170 below

rare - both stats should be 190

Looks to be one of three humanoid pets that are captured via pet battle. If this one doesn't appeal, then you also have Flayer Youngling year-round or Qiraji Guardling during the summer to meet the requirements for Family Reunion.

Picked up a few. Took about an hour, there were a few other people circling around. I am pretty sure killing critters in the area allows them to spawn. If not, it gives you something to do while you wait. Spawn rate seems decent enough. I also killed two more poors rather than capture them to see their stats.

They call in Snakes and Toads as backup. I got two rare snakes as backup, but I was full up on lower level rares and didn't get to capture them.

Go ahead and gather the Glowcap in the area while you are waiting on spawns... it is currency for Tiny Sporebat (as well as being a reputation turn-in for Sporeggar until Friendly). Either you can use it to buy it after you get the rep... or you can sell it on the AH to pet collectors that already have exalted who might come back to buy a second or third one for grins.

EDIT: I never understood why people downvote good information just because they think it means they think someone else will get an edge over them... This is Glowcap we're talking about... the bane of every BC herbalist... there's tons of them.

Without doing anything but fighting ~~(forfeiting, actually)~~ the others, it spawned each 15 minutes. I faced 2 commons and 1 poor before finding a rare. From what I've seen, they come with one or two snakes and or toads, but no other sporeling.

Edit: Forgot to add that they appear at Sporeggar village, so just camp there and check every 15 minutes. It's just a matter of time before a rare appears.

Edit Nº2: As of patch 5.2, a condition regarding forfeiting has been added. Now, when you forfeit, all your pets take damage equal to 10% of their total life, and the pet you fought won't despawn anymore. Given this fact, I recommend fighting with a team of 3 lvl 25 pets, and have a pet with at least one critter-base mid-powered attack, so that he can take him on without fear of killing him. Terrible Turnip also works, as his Weakening Blow is THE best way to capture anything.

First day trying there was 3-4 others camping the zone, killed all the critters I could find.
Spent over an hour and never even saw one on the map.

Came back the next night/early morning (4am est), saw one when landing...
No one was there, woot.
After that I would do a loop of the known spawns, killing all the critters (frogs, snakes.)
I could get 1-2 to spawn every loop or two.
Took me about 8 battles to find a rare.

If only the flayer younglings would be this easy.

I've been going around fighting the other pets in the area and it doesn't seem as though you can get one as one of the joined pets in battles.

If you're going out to hunt these, make sure to bring an extra pet who can handle aquatics well, you WILL get 2x frogs every single time for your extra pets, i hate fighting aquatics...

I've been trying to farm the "Rare" Sporeling Sprout but the only thing I keep coming up with is "poor" and "uncommon", is there really a "Rare"?

Strangely, right around noon I headed out to Sporeggar on a heavily populated CRZ and there were 20-25 of these up (0 fel flames and 0 flayers up). I have no idea why, but just a heads up that there might be some sort of synchronized spawning mechanic in play.

Literally every possible spawn point had a Sprout alive.

I caught two of these today, an uncommon and a rare, neither counted for .

Edit: Someone mentioned that they got credit, but it didn't show up until after they logged out and back in. Worked for me. I now have credit for this as well as the missing catches that weren't appearing for . Yay!

I've been working at finding a rare of this little guy for about 6 hrs. Seems like a waste to use a Flawless Humanoid stone on it because I've seen so many uncommon ones, but I'm about to break!

Just a historical note, this guy used to have Takedown, the same move the Pandaren Monk has. I remember because I specifically levelled this guy for that move because it was bugged in the first few weeks of MoP. I didn't really use him much after it was fixed, so I just noticed today it was not only fixed but removed from the Sporeling altogether. I think it may have been replaced by Charge.

When I got to Sporeggar, there were about a dozen or more sporling sprouts wandering around. I fought 4, 2 poor, 1 common, and one uncommon, which I trapped. I decided to go to Zabra'Jin to revive my pets to full health and try for a rare, but when I got back to Sporeggar, they were all gone. No one else was in the area. I'm wondering if these are a one-time capture.

I have slain every one of these around Sporeggar and found no rare... Bad luck I guess! (Must have been around 20 Sprouts.) So I just used a battlestone on it, because I needed a humanoid to level; and this guy is great. The shrooms do a nice damage over time; but you have to have a little patience with him ;) It's a shame there aren't a lot of dragonkin-pets around in the wide WoW-world, so he hasn't been able to show me his best work :P

After flying around looking and looking and seeing none I noticed I was unfriendly with the sporagar. I switched to an alt that was friendly and aha! several were there.

Based on its moveset, it would probably do the best as P/P. It has a damage reduction (making H/H less desirable), a move that always goes first (making S/S less desirable), and a damage based heal (again making H/H less desirable). The chance of getting both a rare and breed 4 (P/P) when it can roll all ten breeds would be extremely low. I highly recommend looking for the P/P in any quality and then upgrading it with a stone. I was lucky enough to get a P/P uncommon on my first spawn, so I quit camping them immediately.

Got my rare on a first try. power build. around 3:40p server. There were plenty up. Keep trying there are rares.

A surprisingly decent tank pet. I like to use the H/P breed with a little extra health for a buffer. I'm sure it's probably about the same as getting a P/P breed though for the extra healing. Plus since he's a humanoid, every time he attacks a turn it's even more healing.

Can't find any comments on actually using this pet in battles so here's my input:

- Overall a great tanky pet, though it has relatively low hitpoints in my case (mine has 1400 at lvl 25 as rare with increased speed)
- the Crouch ability combined with Leech seed and being a humanoid (self heals) enables this pet to soak some considerable amount of damage while not losing too much on hit points.
- Jab ability even though weak in general is very good against dragon types and will help you a lot in battling the final few tamers in Kalimdor especially the guy with "Dark whelps".
- Apart from the super high hiting elementals (spirits of pandaria in particular or legendary aquatic pets with pump and whirpool) this guy can hold his ground against any battle pet. Even against the mentioned types he can hold his ground long enough to ensure victory, requires a bit of luck and several attempts though.
- In my case speed breed allows me to have him go first most of the times which enables me to cast Crouch before first attack, which ofcourse makes the whole battle in this guys favor. That's why i prefer speed over any other breed.
- This guy followed me throughout all the tamer quests as soon as i got him and never let me down.

P.s. snail types will help you battle those nasty elementals mentioned above in one go.

Useful pet. Charge, Leech Seed, Spore Shrooms made a decent tank who could still damage the enemy. For mazimum healing, roll leech seed BEFORE setting up Spore Shrooms so you still deal damage on the turn you lay down Spore Shrooms.

I choose charge over Jab because it can throw a monkey wrench in enemy plans, which is very important for PvP pet battles, an environment currently dominated by "Combo" teams.

took me forever to find the rare, i think i had to go on several different toons, although that is not a strategy..just saying..the rare does exist but it might take a while. i also had one common and uncommon already and i kept trapping the ones i battled and just released them off.

I would recommend the P/P (power) breed because you have the Charge move which always goes first and the power boost (325) will help your shroom DOTs long after your dead. Also, the Human racial will help rebuild your low HP. If his shield was point based (and therefore would scale with Power) that would be a trifecta.

Has anyone taken a closer look at his abilities? He has humanoid, elemental, critter and undead abilities. He's the platypus of battle pets.

GREAT pet for swap party.
Spore Shrooms, after that (when spores are going to be released) Leech Seed and he can very nicely heal yourself even while is idle.
You can add Infernal's Immolation (persists through swaps) and Immolate (not persists for enemies, but deals damage up to 4 rounds) and you have real Elemental apocalypse!

Respawn rate of roughly 1-2 hours if you're rare hunting like me.. so if you have multiple characters just have one that's friendly with the spore ppl and check back after every hour.
