After canvasing Azuremyst 4x's, covering almost all areas, I can say that the interior is mostly inhabited by skunks, squirrels, and rabbits. They all share common spawn points - which the Grey Moth also shares, but very seldom appears in the interior. Pets are very spread out across Azuremyst. The greatest concentration of Grey Moths appear on the coastal areas around the main island, but especially on the west coast of Ammen Vale and the entire small Silvermyst Isle, almost exclusively and best source of uncommons. While most of the spawn locations in the interior on Ammen Vale seem to be Grey Moths, there are few and not worth the trip there unless you are starting out a Draenei. Rare Grey Moth's were in extremely short supply, at least during my run there: in my approx 4 hours I only found one (15,89 - Silvermyst Isle). Last things: respawn rate is very slow every where in Azuremyst and if you see two battle pets in close proximity on your mini map, engaging one will make the other disappear, so choose wisely - just fyi. My advice is to stick with Silvermyst Isle. Happy hunting.

There are 16 different Moth battle pets. They all have the exact same abilities.

Currently the map above does not show any grey moths in Ammen Vale. However, I found quite a few when I went searching in there, at least eight spawn points, and someone else was battling pets in there as well. I found only one other pet in there, a squirrel, so it looks like Ammen Vale is almost exclusively grey moths. Out of the eight or so I checked, three were green. Still looking for the elusive blue and if I find one in there I'll update this message.

Update: Got a rare blue in Ammen Vale. It looks like this is a very good spot for higher quality spawns so give it a try.

The drop rate of rare Grey Moth's seems extremely low. Expect to do several circuits of Azuremist Isle and level several pets to 4-5. If you own one make sure a secondary pet is the terrible turnip so you don't kill the rare once you find it.
