So now that this is on the pet battle list. It looks like people that wanted this when it first came out will get their wish and keep this. Course it would suck if it was only usable during the event like it is currently.

Edit: Looks like its no longer in the Pet Journal. Hope one day it can be since Nearly Headless Jacob has Stitch

Edit #2: As of Patch 5.4. This is now a permanent pet! So go for it and have fun :)

I'd say now that its on the Pet Battle list, mixed with people demanding this pet year round ever since its introduction, that next day of the dead we'll have the chance to finally keep the little fella.

Looks like it will finally become permanent in 5.4.0. It has abilities and it's summon tooltip now marks it as a Battle Pet.

As of 8/13 on the PTR, he won't stop dancing. It's the undead headbanging dance. Should be awesome for parties.

anyone else? ill say it.. finally.. an undead pet with a humanoid ability ... a hard dragon counter.

Not sure if there was any others but this was the first one I really noticed.

Just double checked all the undead battle pets on warcraftpets there is another option in the plagued whelp but the call darkness is on cooldown and the dreadful breath requires cleansing rain for max damage. Marionette inflicts far more damage on a single target.

Make sure to get one or three. I do not believe they are unique.

And yes as others have posted.. years after this was an event.. finally this little fella is permanent.

HOW TO OBTAIN:
Step 1: Go to your RACIAL Graveyard. (Draenei-Azure watch, Humans-Stormwind graveyard etc.)
Step 2: Bring 1 Simple flour and 1 Ice Cold Milk. Obtain the Bread of the Dead cooking recipe from Chapman.
Step 3: Cook said recipe over a Ghostly cooking fire (found around the NPCs)
Step 4: Purchase Orange Marigold, see ghost Questgiver, receive The Grateful dead quest.
Step 5: ?
Step 6: Obtain pet, have fun.

NOTE: You HAVE to be at your racial city OR Dalaran/Shattrath. Otherwise you won't see the quest giver.

So, this little guy dances non-stop as of 5.4.1. A little annoying but I was looking forward to getting him so much that it doesn't extremely bother me. Also, from most angles I'm able to view him at, he appears to bash himself in the head repeatedly with the Maracas, especially when he does the jumping part of the undead male dance. Good for a laugh or two!

Going to the racial graveyard is all well and good, but if a pandaren character is too low a level to reach either Shattrath or Dalaran, where do they go? I don't know if the Wandering Isle would have the NPCs for those who haven't yet left, either.

Better way to get the pet:

How to get it.
1) Log in during Day of the Dead.
2) Buy some ice cold milk and simple flour. Milk from innkeeper (not Dalaran) and simple flour from cooking supplier.
3) Port to Dalaran. This will work for all races.
4) Go to the graveyard just north of the staircase where you'd exit the Violet Citadel in the grassy area, you'll see some seasonal NPCs.
5) Buy an Orange Marigold and the Recipe: Bread of the Dead from the seasonal vendor there.
6) Learn the recipe. Be ready to accept and turn in quest at same time; you have only 30 seconds per flower usage.
7) Use the cooking fire beside the questgiver to make the bread.
8) Use the flowers to make the invisible dead visible. Some spirits including a quest giver will appear (Cheerful Dalaran Spirit).
9) Accept quest: The Grateful Dead. Because you've already made the bread it will change directly to a completion.
10) Turn in quest and receive marionette (appears as skull in inventory) as quest reward.

These instructions also work for pandarens if you were wondering :)

Really nice moveset for this battle pet. Why? It has one undead or humanoid attack, but more importantly you can double up on DoTs with both Death and Decay and Bone Barrage. A good (and cheap) tactic would be to start with this guy, set up D&D and then on your second turn, throw down Bone Barrage, then swap out.

When those end (if your opponent survives that long) just bring it back and set up the two moves again until it dies.

For some reason, you can't summon this pet while mounted. I assume this is a bug.

Collect 3 of these for a Macabre Marionette battle pet team.

Name them as follows: Lucky Day, Dusty Bottoms, and Ned Nederlander

In MoP Classic there seems to be a bug with this pet, it doesn't show up in the pet journal when you learn it.

Edit: Earlier today, they pushed a fix and the pet now shows up in the journal. Interestingly, if you learned the pet more than 3 times during the bug (like I did), extra copies of the pet would go to the void.
