As an arms specced warrior I took this when it dropped for our group last night. I was the only plate wearer in the group so it was use it or disenchant it. I plan to socket it with 3 gems that provide crit rating bonus.

Although it does look rather silly it does make me laugh :)

Perfect for any pally, warrior or DK. Disregarding the spec.

You can completely ignore socket bonus (useless for all classes, actually) wich gives you fantastic socketing opportunities.

Three sockets plus Northrend gems means this helm will last a long, long time. I picked this up on my way through Outland, threw three Bold Scarlet Rubies in there... I'm currently at 74 and questing in Grizzly Hills and Zul'Drak and I STILL haven't found anything even close for dps. (Blood DK)

2-3 Bold Bloodstones (or some stamina, for the blue gem) and you're pretty much good to go tanking, DPSing, or whatever on your favorite new DK.

Interesting looks on a DK, the glowing eyes work well for it. If you're going to use this for tanking on a DK, I would suggest getting defense & stamina so you can make big pulls and not get raped. But if you can make a run through SV, the Warlord's Hideout quest gives you this helm with much nicer tanking stats.

if you put 3x bold stormjewel in the sockets as a dps, it will be superior to any <-80 plate headgear from a quest or a dungeon (dps wise), so it will last until 80 if you can afford the gems.

if you combine this with the pants from underbog, belt from ramparts, craftable adamantite bracers, gloves and the necklace of the deep, as long as you use the same gems, you will outdps every other player for a long time, as long as you have a good rotation :) (tested with a dps death knight, warrior tank and now retri) only skilled fire magi should be competiting with you

I just got this fantastic helm on my protection warrior and I socketed with 2 def gems and 1 stam gem boosting my def stats to 413 at the lvl of 67 : )

Like the rest of the blue gear you get from lower level Outlands instances, plate wearers should ignore the socket bonus and stack Northrend gems in there. Tanks stack stam, dps stack strength. Non-epic WotLK gems are generally very cheap; I was able to socket three +18 stam gems in this for under 6 gold.

In 4.0.1, in line with the elimination of mp5 as a stat, this helm's socket bonus was changed from 2 mana per 5 sec. to 4 Spirit.

I'm left wondering why it wasn't changed entirely, to something remotely beneficial to melee DPS, as this helm's other stats are all clearly combat-oriented.

~~Be that as it may, the stock of this helm is stronger than ever, with Cata blue-quality gems giving +40 stat points or +60 stamina. 150 Strength in a level 65 helm = win.~~

As of 4.0.3 (Cata release) the aforementioned gems can only be placed in an item of Level 285 or higher. Use WotLK gems instead, they're nothing to sneeze at. And while you're at it, you can stop downrating my comment now.

This helm could last you more than 10 levels whether you are tanking(3x 30stam) or dps(3x 20str), nothing comes close til you hit 78 where you can find Cataclysm greens with a huge jump in stats.

For example: Rethban Helm of the Landslide +240 Stamina, +160 Strength, +106 Hit Rating, +106 Expertise Rating

one might consider this a good helm for the bejeweled plate set. i certainly am partial to the helms design as it isnt common.

That mana regen bonus may be nice, but if there's a warrior in my party I'll pass and let him have it. As a holy spec pally, I want intelligence bonus in my armor. This helmet is for ret-pally and warrior, not for me.

Sigh. So tired of Warriors getting their panties in a knot because Paladin's are saying now what they've been told for ages "Oh! No no no! That doesn't have an Int or Mana bonus on it, that's not for you!".

You're right. Both Fury and Retribution Paladins have a right to roll on this. And I'm happy to see you wouldnt be flying into a rage over losing a roll on it. But let's be honest... you'd have no more right to be angry about losing a roll on this item to a Paladin than you would another Fury Warrior.

the sockets are an added bonus and the sh*ttastic 2m/5s is BS
i would roll need on this if i had a group for it and if a pally won well i would be angry but i wouldnt be like screaming bloody murder
it is a GREAT fury helm and a GREAT ret pally helm thats all there is to say about it no tinking otherwise

and if u bring up the socket bonus i will cut ur head off and feed it to a core hound

This is a Ret Paladin helm. If I saw a Warrior out roll a Paladin for this, he'd be blacklisted immediately.

EDIT: To below poster, it's a blue version on the Lightforge Helm. Obvious it was made with Paladins in mind :)

As an holy paladin, one of the two true pally sub-class (sorry but NO respect for Crétadin, you want to deepeeS. reroll hunter, rogue, warrior, etc) I prefer Helm of Infinite Visions -> Helm of Infinite Visions or Helm of Natural Purity -> Helm of Natural Purity over this helm. I'll glady pass for any warrior that need it and be happy to shard it. No need of a blue version of Ronald McDonald helm. Socket you say? Yeah sure... Anyway Blizzard seem to had forgoten Paladins between lv20-58 but we got a sh*tload of gears after that. Some quests have 2 set of mail or 2 set of leather but no plate... Don't laugh at a warrior that wear Light-Touched Breastplate or pseudo-paladin gears, not cause they over-roll a pally, just they can't find anythign good right now. Beside I stand with Pasamis opinion. also to finish... if you want to argue, do it in a mature manner.

I give up, paladins get everything. They don't even have to be ret to get any warrior gear so wtf. Warrior haters I say. Even the Paladin DEFENSE set is better then the warriors. I mean damn INT with high defense alongside all warrior mods? Oh well the pres of blizz is a paladin what can we say. Nerf us more will ya? Oh and while you're at it add INT into the rest of the warrior gear.

I mean 2 Mana points in 5 seconds is HARDLY even freaking useful enough for a RET paladin. YOu're better off with something that has INT cause ret or not you always end up doing something holy or magical based dps. Man warriors are good end game but the blues before the raid items SUCK and you all know it.

Warriors, lets get one thing straight and I mean one thing.

YOU DON'T NEED THIS! So much better sh*t for you that would give you better socket bonuses than this. Yes I know it doesn't give int+ and the mana regen is pathetic. But this is the thing, Paladins before Warriors when it comes to needing on this. Warriors looks stupid with this too!

As a 64 Ret Pally I don't go needing on stuff for fury or arms warriors because I know what I need for my job. On the side I have healing/tanking gear for when I have to run lower level instances for friends or act as back up healer. So I will occassionally ask for items that should go to a healer, but that's if the priest, shaman, druid, etc. doesn't need them.

So guys take it into consideration what your class "does" before looking at the "stats" of an item. Fury warriors = dps Arm warriors = burst damage
Ret paladins = DPS Melee/Spell DPS, so I think Ret Paladins have a priority over this.

Three sockets means it's highly customisable to any class. While the set bonus isn't good for a Warr, it has great normal stats, and they can just ignore the bonus. With its normal stats, the three sockets, and the socket bonus, it is a really good helm for ret pally, or any pally when PvPing.

As a pally I wouldn't mind letting a warrior roll for the helm if warriors would let us pallies roll on plate with agility, strength, and stam and high dps 1h and 2h weps but until then stop complaining and let the pally have it. The 2 mana per 5 secs for the gem set bonus makes this helm slightly better for a pally, not by much but better is better. This all comes down to the problem of "just because I can use it more/better means I should have it". Now I don't think we should be rolling on gear that doesn't match our armor type (unless noone else needs it) but I'm saying most paladins can use warrior gear pretty well.

So either widen up the loot priority a bit or let the pally have the Hope Bearer Helm

It suits both pala's and warriors, allthough I, as a dw fury warr would say we could use it better. The mana tick is just there to make it a tiny bit more viable for pala's than without..

Giving anybody pri on it is just stupid though.
They can both use it, let both roll for it.

As far as rolling for warriors is concerned, it's not a big leap to just consider the mana as a dud-bonus, and an excuse to stick in whatever the hell gems we want. The only other exclusive pally feature seems to be its name.

Funny how everywhere else on this site, any time a pally says he wants a piece of warrior plate, even socketable, it's "ZOMG ninja it's for warriors n00b". But when paladins have a helm as part of their unofficial "set" that has no intellect and is purely for melee DPS (OMG, paladins melee?), warriors want to claim it, too, in spite of the meager, but still class oriented, socket bonus.
Maybe I'm going out on a limb here, but...

This is the first plate helm in the BC instances. Both classes are going to fight for it and rightly so. Deal with it. Not a paladin's fault that Blizzard didn't put a helm for the 'valor' set. However, also not the warrior's fault for wanting it for the same reason.

Both will go for it and slot it how they see fit.

Well there are the Exorcist's helms from the vendors you need the Spirit Shards for they have helms for both classes and you only need 18 Spirit Shards :)

btw what would be better this Hope Bearer Helm or Exorcist's Plate Helm

Actually paladins CAN TANK BETTER at some bosses (even in heroic instances)

I'm a priest and i actually prefer to have a paladin as tank in some instances.

But this helm is for both paladins and warriors.

9 out of 10 of pallies aggree this is a pally helm, i however do not, blizz may have made this helm spicificaly for paladins but step back and look at it, the only way this is a pally helm is due to the socket bonus, and what a fantastic one it is. i would not be surprised or upset if a warrior needed this in a run it is a very good helm, pally or no

Sparky's helm blows compared to this, that has to be some kind of joke. Throw three VERY cheap Thick Golden Draenites in here for +18 defense, or 3 Very cheap Solid Azure Moonstone for 27 extra stamina (47 total) and screw the crapy socket bonus. Either way you have a nice tank helm once socketed. Better than anything else you can get until Unbreakable.

Well, like I said the math is simple just name one better tank helm at this lvl and I would gladly go for that over this. But until I see that link warriors have no alternative but to go after this. This is the best tank helm until unbreakable period. It makes no sense not to go for it as a tank. Unfortunately that is the way Blizzard set it up.

children...children... this helm is BUILT so either class can use it, it's not defined to warrior or paladin. just because it has a measley socket bonus that would benefit paladins doesn't mean it's strictly for paladins. the stats own for warriors or paladins, so just need if you need and pray you get it.

this pally vs. warr priority thing is all blizz fault. they decided to make armor pieces that look like the old dungeon sets in the new bc instances but for some moronic reason they didnt make a helm for the warr one so they took the pally one and made it for both. omg blizz change these stats to something with intel str stam and spell dmg healing+ and make a warr helm that looks like valor!

I have changed my talents from fury to protection
and so far i havent seen any good helmet and im wearing the underwolrd helm.It has a nice boost at stamina.Could any1 tell me when and with what shall i change it?

This is a fine warrior helm, but with the socket bonus taken into consideration it was designed with paladins in mind. If this drops and there are no paladins (or the paladin present has it already or a better helmet), I'll push need. However, if I'm there with a paladin who needs it, I'll gladly pass.

Good helm overall, nice stats and sockets.

Im going to do crypts a few times when i lvl...(64warrior)..i actually wouldnt mind this helm. Add some gems to it and its pretty nice,and if a pally is in my groupp...im not going to let him have it. Put it this way, if the Equip bonus was lets say...Additional 2 Rage every 5 seconds er something like that,do u think the pally would still roll?Yes.And for all you pallys who complain about warriors taking this, toughen up,you pallys get gear from nearly every instance and about every quest as to warriors, we dont get %^&*.

I love how when a helm geared more towards paladins that a warrior would like drops warriors are all well its bonus's are nice o i should be able to roll on it too, BUT heaven forbid a prot paladin roll on any plate without int cuz thats for warriors

Itz a great helm for warriors and paladins sockets are generally a customization of armour and weapons so it swings either way. i do see more paladins choosing this then warriors because of the style. looks like 2 of the paladin helm sets

2 rage is way better then 2 mana, 2/100 is 2%, but 2/5000 is like 0005%. this is hella good for warriors, just bcause it has 2mp5 socketbonus it doesnt give pallys the right to roll

fell for me today, me and ret pally rolled. he got 55 and I rolled an 88 on my warrior. he was cool about me winning it as would I had if he won it. nice helm for either class.

Great helmet for both a warrior and paladin. Might not be the best option for a holy paladin. Also this helmet is part of the two sets that are redesigned from Azeroth (Warrior and Paladin dungeon 1 look)you can get in Outland. Sadly there are only one helm and it looks like the paladin set edition, but has stats good for both a warrior and paladin.

It droped for me on the second Crypt run for my protection paladin. I was the only plate wearer in the group so none cared about rolling for it than me. This was a realy great upgrade since i had a green helm from a quest in Zangramarsh a loong time. Plate head items of good quality seems to be rare, so if this drop and its an upgrade for you roll need on it.
Rememeber that there are many socket bonuses that not worth gemming up for. Get the gems that will do the best for your characters build and stack them up. Dont care so much for the socket bonus on this item.

Since i mostly soon will change this out again with a better item i bought 3x green gems with +9 stamina, rasing it to a total of 27, giving it a total of 46 stamina added. I could have got 9 more using the +12 edition but concidered it a waste of gold.
Remember there are many nice combinations out there from gems.

Overall a great item that will last loong for you.
