Great spell for fighting warlocks and priests. it absorbs the shadow dmg that is inflicted on you. this is also great for Pve.

Shadow Ward is very useful in PvP against shadow priests or other warlocks and also is useful against mobs with shadowbolt volley, which can hurt.

It does not take away too much damge, but it at least helps you live longer.

Awesome for whenever you dot yourself in PvP because someone popped a Shadow Reflector. also good against warlocks and priests like the person said above, just remember they'll try to dispel it with dispel magic or devour magic.

I have found that this spell is usefull agains the Baron in Strathome coupled with some shadow resist pots makes this battle a breeze.

Sadly somewhat worthless since BC came out. 920 dmg is like 2 wands worth of damage.

A shadow bolt non-crit easily hits for 1500+ with decent gear.

Priests can dispel shadow ward, just as shaman can purge it.

I imagine mages could also spell steal it, but it wouldn't be worth the mana.

Great to use when a shadow fiend is on you. The priest wont get any mana back.

Generally was only useful against other warlocks and priests in PvP in previous expansions, but DKs have some shadow damage too, especially if they're unholy.

Sadly, high-end Wrath bosses really don't use a lot of Shadow damage; it's mostly either Frost or Nature.
It's still useful for some fights, though (particularly Loatheb in Naxx; most of his damage is Shadow, and being able to absorb it is a huge help between breaks in the anti-healing Aura).

Use it when you get Gravity bomb in XT-002 Deconstructor, will absorb nearly 4k damage. :)

This spell is great in PVP (Shadow priests, other locks or death knights). Keep in mind that the mage version of frost and fire also have spell reflection...
I think warlocks shadow ward should get something more to make up for it, like higher absorption or increase duration or some kind of Thorn effect... you know like original, not necessarily spell reflection as the Mages.

This has always been useful, especially given the low CD. Use it liberally on Twins heroic in ToGC and for infest on LK.

Paragon had their locks spam this for Infest which would go a long way towards preventing a drop below 90% hp. A quick deathcoil, returned haunt or drain life and Robert's your mother's brother.

As of right now, this and Voidwalker's Sacrifice are useless for Warlocks and hardly worth the global cooldown. 9k absorbtion is not even 1/12th of our health, and will maybe absorb half of a mind blast, shadow bolt, or mind spike. It needs serious reworking, and much like other Warlock abilities, has been completely overlooked by Blizzard.

Even given that it is of some value (debatable), it has a 30 second duration AND a 30 second CD so it's just a button for us to press every 30 seconds throughout a fight like a trained lab. rat.

C'mon Blizzard, either make it a passive or make it a REAL spell interrupt and lock out.

Neglected by many warlocks, this spell is valuable against Spriests, other(especially affli) warlocks, unhDK and SV hunters. It doesnt feels like much, before you realize that its absorbtion grows with your spell power. Not that strong, but handy

This is actually quite useful if you need a warlock to be one of the soakers on Heroic Ultraxion. This combined with a Hand of Sacrifice from a Paladin results in a fairly good soak. I'm uncertain whether it is good enough on its own without external help (HoSac, Priest shield etc).

Not worth the global to even cast unless you're on the move. Fortunately, MoP will be buffing this spell by nearly 3x, as well as allowing it to absorb Holy damage. Currently at 85, Shadow Ward has a base absorption of 3551, and a Spell Power co-efficient of 80.7%. In Mists, Twilight Ward at level 85 has a base absorption of 2887 and a spell power co-efficient of 300%.
I'll use my character as an example, who currently has 10,504 Spell Damage with Fel Armor active.

In Patch 4.3.4 with 10,504 Spell Power, Shadow Ward absorbs ~12,028 Shadow Damage

In Patch 5.0.4 with 10,504 Spell Power, Twilight Ward absorbs 34,399 Shadow & Holy Damage (~2.86 times more damage).

Finally, we'll be able to absorb more than half a Shadowbolt!

Because soul link does shadow damage to you, twilight ward can be used to negate the damage. The same might apply to dark bargain and sacrificial pact (with grimoire of sacrifice) IF they do shadow damage, though i am not sure if they do.

Edit: Dark bargain does do shadow damage but sacrificial pact does not do any kind of "true" damage, so it cannot be negated in any way.

On a pvp note, would Twilight Ward with the glyph of Twilight Ward mean that Warlocks can absorb the poison/nature damage of an Assassination Rogue? And also, does it absorb the shadow damage from abilities like Death From Above and Shadow Blades?

so i started hearing stuff about +healing enhanceing the absorbtion of power word shield. If that is so, then +shadow spelldmg would enhance shadow ward and +fire would increase fire ward and +ice for frost ward for the mage.

is this true?
can anyone confirm this
i saw something about it when reading the patch notes of wow site

on another note pretty good, just throw this up when someone tosses dots on ya, or is casting stuff at ya so u can walk off a few hits unphased, while u cast at them

also good when at low health after the priest or lock dies and u have a dot or two still on ya
it will save ur life from post battle death

This spell saved my life. I had just killed another warlock and had three dots ticking down my heatlh, which by this point was less than 100. I almost threw in the towel when I remembered about this spell. It absorbed all the damage and the dots ran out long before shadow ward did. I bandaged, drank, and got right back in the battle.

Warlock Rune of Infernal Armor Guide Video - https://youtu.be/LhjmdbSwoso

1. Head to the cave along the Eastern edge of Blasted Lands.
2. Defeat Shadowsworn Cultists or Adepts until they drop Shadowsworn Note.
3. Enter cave and head to the back of the large chamber to find a sacrificial altar.
4.Before right-clicking the altar, do the following:
b. Create a Greater Spellstone and equip it. Then summon a voidwalker.
c. Just before you click on the altar, do these three things: Use Greater Spellstone, Sacrifice Voidwalker (from pet bar), & cast Shadow Ward on yourself.
d. Right-click the altar and you will be hit with three ticks of shadow damage which will almost kill you but you should survive if you did previous step correct.
5. If you survive the ritual, you will be attacked by a demon named Heliath.
6. Defeat Heliath and loot Rune of Infernal Armor.
*It may be possible to loot the rune from another faction's kill.
