Profession Overview Guide: Perks and Changes for MoP Classic

Mists of Pandaria Classic professions largely maintain similar bonuses to those seen in the previous expansion. There are no new professions in this expansion, but they have all received substantial new recipes, and some professions have had their early training routes streamlined.
Professions in Mists of Pandaria Classic
In Mists of Pandaria Classic, the new highest rank for all professions is Zen Master, which allows you to level up to 600.
Primary Professions
You can have up to two primary professions on a single character. You can unlearn a profession to learn another, but you will lose your progress and will need to start over if you change back to the original profession.

Secondary Professions
There is no limit to how many secondary professions you can learn; you can have all four of them on a single character.

The crafting professions generally give similar bonuses; however, some are less flexible than others. For example, Enchanters can enchant their rings to provide +320 in any primary stat, whilst Blacksmiths can add an additional socket to their gloves and bracers, into which they could place primary stat gems for +320 in a primary stat, or they could place gems with secondary stats.
You will find notable items available for all professions, along with the profession-specific bonuses available for the primary professions in this guide.
Crafting Professions in Mists of Pandaria Classic
Alchemy
炼金术
allows players to craft various consumables that are always in high demand due to their common use in raids. Alchemists can also transmute bars and gems into more items. They are also able to easily craft a trinket early in the expansion, which will usually be best in slot before raid and Challenge Mode dungeons.

Alchemists gain additional stats and an increased duration when they drink any elixir or flask they can make. When an Alchemist uses an end-game flask, the additional stats granted will be in line with the bonuses from other professions.

In this expansion, there is only a single Alchemist Stone, the

, which gives additional stats as a proc based on your highest stat. Alchemists are also able to use

once per day, which will generally provide a reasonable profit for minimal effort, especially if they choose to specialize in Transmutations.
The

is a reusable flask exclusive to Alchemists, which gives a bonus +320 Agility, Strength, or Intellect, based on their highest stat. This allows Alchemists to gain a benefit similar to other professions at all times, without having to always be using a consumable flask, as well as gain a benefit from Alchemy in Arenas, where flasks are otherwise unusable.

Blacksmithing
锻造
is a profession that involves crafting plate armor, weapons, and other helpful items from metals. Classes that use plate armor will particularly benefit from Blacksmithing, as they will be able to use many of the items they craft.

An additional socket in both the glove and bracer slots gives Blacksmiths the most adaptable profession bonus, as they can choose to socket gems of whichever stat they would like, including secondary stats, whilst most other professions' bonuses only provide primary stats or a limited choice of secondary stats.

Enchanting

allows players to enchant gear, providing stat boosts, procs, and other bonuses, such as increased movement speed. The materials used in Enchanting are nearly all obtained from Disenchanting items, so unlike most other crafting professions, there is no gathering profession of particular value to pair with Enchanting. Tailoring can be a good second profession to have alongside Enchanting, as you can disenchant crafted Tailoring gear that you don't need.

The unique profession bonus of Enchanting allows players to enchant both of their rings with +240 stamina or +160 of the other primary stats. Non-enchanters can not enchant their rings at all.

Engineering

has frequently featured as the standout profession for the powerful primary bonus and additional perks throughout previous expansions, and although it is not quite as far ahead of the other professions as it has been previously, it is still a very strong profession with unique items and perks.

Although there are 2 other Engineer-specific hand enchants, Synapse Springs sees the most use by far. They provide +1920 to your highest primary stat for 10 seconds every 60 seconds, which, if used on cooldown, averages to +320, equivalent to the static boosts of other professions.

has been given a new niche in Mists of Pandaria, with Scribes being able to craft various shoulder enchants, replacing the previous system of shoulder enchants being locked behind reputation grinds. Along with this, Scribes can craft glyphs, powerful trinkets, and bind-to-account weapons.

These shoulder enchants grant an additional +480 stamina or +320 of another primary stat, compared to the shoulder enchants that players without Inscription can use.

, Jewelcrafters can gain the same bonus as professions like Enchanting. However, Jewelcrafters also have the option of choosing to use a gem with secondary stats instead of primary stats, which can be beneficial for some classes.

These Leatherworker-only bracer enchants grant +320 Agility, Intellect, or Strength over the standard enchants available to everyone from Enchanting. There is no bracer enchant that gives Stamina in Mists of Pandaria, so the Leatherworking Stamina enchant can be particularly strong for specs that benefit from Stamina.

As the primary material used in Tailoring is cloth, which is obtained frequently as a drop from enemy humanoids, there is no gathering profession that pairs particularly well with Tailoring. Enchanting is a strong second profession to take with Tailoring, as you can disenchant the items you craft.

Generally, the gathering professions provide smaller, less flexible bonuses than the crafting professions; however, they provide many of the materials required for crafting professions, and they can be highly profitable.

"Jewelcrafters have the option of socketing two Smooth Serpent's Eye Smooth Serpent's Eye for double the bonus of Skinning" except that the skinner can still slot a pair of 320 gems in those same slots, putting them 160 crit ahead of the JC in that example. JC is really only better if you're using its primary stat gems (which you should imo).
