The horde quest
Kodo Hide Bag
should be added to the LW quest list.
www.wowhead.com/quest=769
It requires 10 skill points in LW to pick up.

Probably one of the best professions for a tanking class due to the resistance at current level content, and it will also give same stamina bonuses required for tanking when the resistance in not required.

The grind from 500ish to 510 is absolutely horrible, there's no new patterns in between those levels so you get to choose between making expensive cloaks that don't sell on the AH very well or take your chances with green-coloured patterns that cost much less but probably won't level you...

Our guild rogue was asked to max out his leatherworking, so he tried, but when he bought plans from the dragonmaw he couldnt learn them due to some bug that GM's say they are aware of but won't fix. Meanwhile our guild is being "Penil" ized since we can't get to that resil gear both for rated bg's and for gold.
Why on earth they can't fix something like this is beyond me. If you know of a fix for this let me know, the service techs from India handling the service calls once a month arent helping.

I had bought some patterns in Highbank there in Twilight Highlands, and to my dismay got the same "item can not be found" message. Made a ticket to GM, waited forever but finally logged, still with no response. When I logged back in the next day there was mail in my toons box from GM, in which they'd refunded the heavy savage leather I'd used to buy the paterns, going on to say that I needed to be more careful of my choices on which to spend stuff. Excuse me? Not my fault that I bought new LW patterns to learn which I can't because of a bug Blizzard needs to fix.

i also had this problem, the only way around it i found was to check out the mats needed as some are obviously lower lvl ones, when i did talk to a GM he was very helpful, but i also wasnt able to get refund,so...back to the grind! lol

For those attempting to get over that last bump to reach 525 leatherworking, while this may not be a good solution, it is at least a good temporary solution...
In Twilight Highlands, near the end of the quest chains, there is a quest called - Blackout - this quest gives you an item called Wyrmhunter Hooks, which can be used in the Obsidium Forest to jump on the back of the drakes flying in the sky. WHEN DOING THIS, you suffer NO DAMAGE unless you get hurt after the drake dies from falling damage. This is a pain free way of farming leather, AS WELL AS Blackened Dragonscales, AND Dragon Flanks used in the new raid cooking feast called Broiled Dragon Feast. Happy hunting, and good luck!

The question: How do you get from level 510 to 525 besides crafting "green" "Cloak of Beasts"? We cannot buy patterns in Twilight Highlands. How did you get that last 15 levels? Thanks :) ... I FOUND THE ANSWER: There are patterns at the Twilight Highlands vendor that we can learn now ... good luck.

I have to say...the only class for which LW will never be a tedious PITA is hunters. I tried to get used to LW on my rogue, I really did, but without Track Beasts it's just a pain. While in higher-level zones the skinnable mobs are clumped together nicely so you don't have to look too hard, I found it tedious and annoying at the lower levels.

tip for the ones who want to lv this from low lvs, DON´T waste time, when you finally get enough leather (or other mats) for a lv 18 item you´ll be already lv 30+ (specially if you are using heirlooms). so either buy all the leather you need or leave it until higher lvs (maybe 60+), don´t waste trying to get the blues, totally not worth it.

I have a question about leatherworking. I am a low lvl 25. I have or thought I have farmed thr ruined leather scrapes to make light leather. It will not let me make Light leather at all. So is ruined leahter scrapes and pelts the same thing? also how do i drop 1 profession to gain another. I am starting to think I need the skinning profession for the ruined scrapes.
As you can tell I an a noob to this

at low lvl u should just lvl by farming leather and random dungeons. ur LW will easily be kept up and ur gear will be much better then if u were questing. as far as xp, just get tabards from various factions and wear them in dungeons to get it. of course sum quests should be done. i lvl'd my LW this way and it was quick and i was always well geared for when i came across a flag'd alli.

I really have a problem with leatherworking, especially since Cata. It was tough enough before, but now its BRUTAL! At lvl85 and 500 skill, you have to gain 10 lvls on 2 very expensive and almost unsaleable cloaks. After that it costs you 10 heavy savage leather to buy a pattern (Thats 50 savage leather). It's a whole lot cheaper to buy that lower level resiliance armor at the auction market. Savage leather sells high. I have 2 lvl 85 Hunters on different servers. 1 Alliance gatherer gatherer and 1 Horde skinner leatherworker. My leatherworker is only at lvl 415 and struggling to get higher. Guess which one has the gold? I also started a Worgen Druid leatherworker. He is now lvl 50 and struggling to make leatherworking work. The problem is that with cata it is easier to level up your charater. Consequently your leatherworking can't keep up with the hides you gather. For example, I am now skinning thick leather but all the patterns I have use heavy leather, and I had to get 150 gold off my 85 to buy the light leather off the auction mart to get that high. I haven't played any of the other professions past lvl 80 yet, but I hope they are easier to do than this one. What it amounts to, if you don't have a high powered Alt to bail You out, don't start a character as a leatherworker. Personally, until they straighten these professions out, I would stick with gatherer-gatherer, you'l make way more gold and be able to buy what you need from suckers like me!

I think at around level 510 you start needing 10 Heavy Savage leather to purchase more LW recipes. On top of that, all the recipes call for 10 heavy savage leather and usually 10 Volatile fire to make the item. There is a way to get both Savage Leather and Volatile Fire without having to travel much.
Head to Twilight Highlands and to the immediate west of Crushblow is Cannon's Inferno. I would fish in the pools of fire for the
불의 휘발물
(the enemies can drop it as well but the rate is low.) While waiting for the 15 minute cooldown on the 4 pools, I would skin Worgs and Elk in Highland Forest for Savage Leather.
Since I'm Horde, I use Crushblow for repairs and selling the grey items enemies drop. If you're Alliance, Victor's Point isn't too far.
Good luck with the Leatherworking.

In Mists of Pandaria, you will only need to get to LW skill 500 using Cata mats. Starting at 500 LWs can make
Exotic Leather
from 5x
Sha-Touched Leather
. The recipe starts orange and greys out at 535. So looking at the guides, it appears I'll only need 505 Savage Leather to skill up a Monk Leatherworker, rather than... 1215.

My leatherworker wasn't in Pandaria when everyone else landed there. She is one of my alts that has been leveled to 90 only about three months ago.
But
Every day I do my magnificence of leather and every day I craft my hardened magnificent hide and I am still learning crap, outdated, pvp gear patterns. That's despite having spent as many SoH as needed to buy all the patterns she could as soon as her skill and level allowed her to start doing so. And yet I still have patterns I haven't learned yet for the good 553 items like the
Snow Lily Belt
which would actually help better my gear quite a bit.
With professions perks going away comes WoD, I think this one a day skill learning system needs a revision.
Compared to other crafting professions this one has been one tedious, unrewarding grind that I haven't even been able to get through yet.
...And I thought jewelcrafting was bad when I learned it !
My jewelcrafter in comparison is far from done learning all the possible lower level jewel cuts but at least she was able to learn all the current content, and be done with it quite a bit of time faster than LW, without having to learn all the LK and Cata stuff first.

I just listed up all the Leather you need to get
all recipes from the vendors for Leatherworking in WoW
(currently
Wotlk-Pandaria
)
To get the Leather i highly recommend going to the side
WoW-Professions.com
.
Oh and something to note: I like the idea of being able to craft something once a day and get a recipe from it. I really love it. But how Blizz designed it in the end - not something i would like to see again.
I recorded anything I know (these are ONLY recipes you buy from leather. NO gold, just leather. Nor do you farm any of these, like random world drops giving you special recipes.)
This one's a bit tricky (let's just assume you get 0 drops of Arctic Fur, since it's low anyways.)
36 Recipes* 3 Heavy Borean Leather* 6 Borean Leather=
648 Borean Leather
+
10 Recipes* 2 Arctic Fur* 10 Heavy Borean Leather * 6 Borean Leather=
1200 Borean Leather
(Can exchange 10 Heavy for 1 Arctic Fur; You need 6 Borean Leather for 1 Heavy Borean Leather, can't drop, so you need to craft it)
So you need 1848 Borean Leather for all Recipes (ofc there will drop enough Arctic Fur, which makes it much easier + you can buy them very cheap on the AH)
(buyable in Dalaran:
Braeg Stoutbeard
regardless of faction.)
45 Recipes * 10 Heavy Savage Leather * 5 Savage Leather (you can't farm Heavy ones, so you need 5 Savage ones to craft the Heavy ones)=
2250 Savage Leather
(Cata Recipes only!) (buyable at every Leathworking Supply-guy, atleast in the capital cities)
Bought all the Pandarian Recipes with
32 Spirits of Harmony
. (You can make 1 Spirit out of 10 Motes.)
Alliance:
Tanner Peng
Horde:
Krogo Darkhide
(Now to use your
Magnificance of Scales
/
Magnificance of Leather
, and
Hardened Magnificent Hide
)
85 Recipes* 20 Exotic Leather/Prismatic Scales=
1700 Exotic Leather
+
83 Recipes* 25 Exotic Leather(2 Magnificent Hides needed, one can be crafted for 50 Exotic Leather, you'll also get one from that one above, so let's say 25/day to keep 'em comin') =
2075 Exotic Leather
Magnificance of Scales and Leather both give the same, so you don't have to worry about it.
Conclusion
:
1848 Borean Leather
2250 Savage Leather
3775 Exotic Leather
320 Motes of Harmony
NOTE: Pandarian Ones are DAILY, so i cant say: well max out my leatherworker, no, i have to wait 3 Months to finish it, giving i do it each day.
EDIT: Just made some stuff more clear and removed unnecessary things. :)

Ok I feel like Leatherworker's keep getting the short end of the stick, AGAIN. In MoP we needed 20 pieces of leather to make the daily CD, Magnificent Hide. Engineers and Blacksmith's needed 10 Ghost Iron bars to make their daily CD.
Then came the second tier daily cd, Hardened Magnificent Hide. This required TWO Magnificent Hides to make while Engineer's and Blacksmith's still only required 10 Ghost Iron bars to make their new CD. Their first tier daily CD items were not consumed to make it either. So essentially, Leatherworkers consumed their first tier cd's AND needed two of them to make ONE second tier item. This meant it took two days vs one for other professions and twice the mats as the other professions to craft the second tier item AND we lost the first tier item still required to make useful things like Shadowleather Leg Armor which was still a valuable and required item.
Now comes WoD with Raw Beast Hide. Each profession has it's own "Small profession building" such as Gem Boutique and The Forge and of course, the Tannery.
The Garrison provides a Herb Garden and a Mine as default buildings (meaning everyone gets one without using one of their Medium building plots). These buildings provide enough mats each day to complete work orders for the profession buildings. Leatherworkers and Tailors are somewhat forced to put up a barn in order to get materials to place work orders at the Tannery. If you have Leatherworking but not skinning, you're kinda hooped for materials and forced to buy them from the AH or use one of your 2 medium plots to put up the barn, a choice that Blacksmithing, Engineering, Jewelcrafting, Alchemy and Inscription are not required to make.
Not nice Blizzard. My main's Tannery is just sitting in my garrison taking up space because by the time I discovered this dilemma it was too late. So I guess I spend resources to rebuild, or let it sit there doing nothing until I can level an alt with Skinning.
EDIT: Tailor's get to use
Sumptuous Fur
so it's only LW's who are hooped.

In WoW professions we now buid items that can rival the raid drop items and are far better than the dungeon drop items. They start small and can be made bigger and bigger. They all are created with what is called a
<Random Enchantment>
. We even craft items to take another roll at the <Random Enchantment> on the gear. The random enchant includes 2 of the secondary stats (giving us a measurable chance or RNG). Items for the Back (cloak), neck, neck, finger(ring), weapon, and shield, have a greater number of possibilities than other armor items, because they can contain the secondary statistics of Bonus Armor and Spirit (fortunately they do not include the combination of both those statistics ;-).
All of the items have a name in the form of "<ItemName> of the
<RandomEnchantComboName>
". If you click on the
<RandomEnchantComboName>
link, it will take you to a chart with all the possible names and combinations. I wish I could add a picture here.
http://compuball.com/forum/WoWRandomEnchantment.png
Examples:
"
강철로 벼려낸 방패
of the Guileful" would have Critical Strike and Bonus Armor as the <Random Enchant>
"
진철 흉갑
of the Harmonious" would have Mastery and Versatitility as the <Random Enchant>
(I think I threw up a little bit there)
Most Armor Items:
As we see from this graph, the number of possible <Random Enchantments> for most armor items will be 10. So, you have a 1 in 10 (1/10 or
10%
) possibility of getting just the mixture of statistics you want.
Cloaks, Necks, Rings, Shields, Weapons:
These items have an additional 2 statisctics added to the normal 4. The added statistics, as mentioned earlier, are Bonus Armor and Spirit (Tank and Healer statistics, respectively). Fortunately there is no combination of both Bonus Armor and Spirit (ever here of teats on a boar hog?)
Only weapon types
intended
for a healing class will have the possibility of Spirit, and only weapon types
intended
for a tanking class will have Bonus Armor. Weapons
intended
for both, will have the same chances as all the jewelry, cloaks, and shields. So if it can be enchanted (by enchanting) or is a shield, it fits in this class of item.
So your chances of getting the perfect necklace with just the right two secondary statistics is 1 in 20 (1/20 or
5%
). I am not certain whether Bonus Armor and Spirit have the same chance of being included. If they are given a single chance and then chosen between the two, then your chance for an item with perfect statistics not including Bonus Armor or Spirit would be 1 in 15 (1/15 or
6.67%
).
I would list here all the values associated with the <Random Enchantments>, however they vary depending on the slot and material. They also vary with the level of the individual wearing or looking at them.
There you have it. All the possible names and combinations. All items of the same level contain the same amount of statistic, such as "54 Critical Strike" and I have not seen a crafted item with a double a statistic (only one statistic but twice the value).
EDIT: None of content, just spelling and highlighting.

Be Careful!
If you are a Leatherworker,
do not buy

Just run some dungeons or kill a few mobs at Draenor and soon you will loot the item that starts the Leatherworking quest.
At the end of chain quest you will receive both for

Want to put your daily recipies on your action bars? I found this useful when using a remote application to access WoW remotely from my phone while on vacation - between this, a garrison mission addon, and parking my characters next to their mission tables, I was able to get through all 3 of their missions and daily recipes in less than 5 minutes.
Burnished Leather:
/run PickupSpell("171391")
Secrets of Draenor Leatherworking:
/run PickupSpell("176089")
These will place the spell icon on your cursor, so that you may place it wherever you'd like on your bars. Note that this can be done for most spells/abilities/recipies - WoWHead can be used to look up the spell ID!

Just save yourself for Draenor and level it there. Raw Beast Hides are easy to come by from Skinning and Trapping. Also, they don't cost much on the AH.

Stuck in level 780? Purchase a pattern for an item level 815 with 3 stars. You can find some belts from
Strap Bucklebolt
in the underbelly. Also making Burnished Leather could also give 1 point per day.

For those that are stuck in Legion LW because Stalriss Dawnrunner will not talk to you (he sells the advanced patterns), but you've completed all the "lesser" patterns, work on getting the mask in Suramar city. This will unlock a quest from the LW trainer is new Dalaran to go talk to Stalriss Dawnrunner.
The quest line to get the mask starts with clicking 6 scrolls and 4 pylons around 30,44 in Suramar.
I fell into this problem on my alt because i leveled up with invasions and didn't bother doing quests. I found the answer by reading a tailoring quest on another toon talking about getting the mask. So i tried it out and sure enough, the quest unlocked!

I guess Leatherworking for Old Recipes will be forever broken :/
I'm stuck on 186lvl skill and can't get pass it, even if I make items labeled as orange :/ I did submitted a bug but guess it's not that important to loosing ingredients and time collecting them :/

Honestly, for Zandalari Leatherworking, the most efficient way of making money is
Coarse Leather Barding
. Because it only takes
Coarse Leather
and you can sell the rest of the materials you get from
Skinning
.
However, I
DO
think that as a whole the item is very difficult to make money with as you need 25
Coarse Leather
; which for a stack of the Coarse Leather Barding you need 500

when you look at the age of the comments you can see how useless LW (and other professoins) has become. you can get mats from raids to make way worse gear as that the raids drop. not to speak of the gear you get for free in warfronts and emmisionary chests. please mr. Blizzard: make professions usefull again. or let them go the first aid road.
my main puppet has all but 15 (or so) LW- patterns, so i'm not someone who don't care about then but this is useless. and don't tell me i can make gear for toons: they also get better gear from doing their daily stuff.

Interesting situation here. The Legion trainer for LW says I'm trained in Legion LW, but it shows in my professions tab as Legion Patterns 0/0. But I'm able t take the Skin Deep quest. Same thing for Legion Skinning.
I'm at a loss to explain this. Any help would be appreciated.

This is the most expensive craftable item ever ! If u thinking of buying everything on AH the material costs will scale from 1,5 mil to 2 mil golds to buy all at this time !
Also gathering
질기고 견고한 생가죽
is real pain and will take up to 30 h to farm(if not more), because only every 18ish skinned mob will drop 1 x
질기고 견고한 생가죽
in patch 9.0.5 (there was a nerf on
질기고 견고한 생가죽
in previous patch, before that, every 8ish skinned mob dropped 1 x
질기고 견고한 생가죽
) Happy farming !
