To get to the area to do the defilement, you'll have to kill a 58 Elite: High Priest Thel'danis. He is quite easy to kill, but note that on a PvE server this will also flag you PvP.

you won´t get reputation to all factions, only ~25% of the reputation to Silvermoon goes to the other factions

If you are a priest, just pop a shield when she attacks you so you wont get interrupted while defiling the tomb. If she dispells the shield just put a new one up. Then you dont have to kill her and wont get pvp active.

watch out cause when you kill the priest outside uthers tomb you ll be in pvp after.if horde it would be tricky to escape from allies wandering at sorrow hill

09.09.2007, he was an easy lvl 58 (non elite).

Extremely easily soloed as a fire mage.

In order to complete the quest, you have to go in front of the statue, and equip the of hand an use it.

You can do this as priest without actually killing the Night Elf. Just bubble, and use the offhand item. (It's best to wait to do it until he patrols behind the statue.) And hope your shield doesnt break.

Upon using the corrupted mark, the ghost of Uther reveals himself and scolds you, kindly, with these words:

"Why do you do this? Did I somehow wrong you in life?
Ah, I see it now in your mind. This is the work of one of my former students... Mehlar Dawnblade. It is sad to know that his heart has turned so dark.
Return to him. Return to Mehlor and tell him that I forgive him and that I understand why he believes what he does.
I can only hope that he will see the Light and instead turn his energies to restoring once-beautiful Quel'Thalas."

(Yes, the name "Mehlar" is actually spelled wrong the second time he says it)

Was Uther the Lightbringer not a Dwarf in Warcraft 3? I would've swore he was a dwarf yet when you defile his statue his spirit is represented as either a human or a very tall dwarf.

Had no problems as level 57 BM Hunter, the alliance priest was easy just long as he kept healing. Pvp wise i only ran into one level 58 mage ... not sure if he wasn't paying attention to the game or what but he was easier than the NPC priest.

This is not a difficult quest at all, but if you kill the priest on a PvE server make sure you don't get ganked by any Alliance on the way out. It must have gone up on Local Defense, because a couple of lvl 70s turned up almost immediately.

i couldnt find my way into the tombe where the statue was kept, i just ended up at the bottom of the tombe facing a wall and no statue or nothing, where do i go into the room with the statue or is the Q bugged?

Remember, if your on a PvE server, after you kill the priest your PvP flag will be enabled. I got snuck up on by a lvl 58 druid (still managed to win ^_^) after doing this quest.

I noticed the priest guy guarding the tomb spends a great deal of time standing around on the porch area outside. If you stealth in and stand to one side of the door you can defile the tomb and stay clear of his line of site. He does eventually patrol back into the room though so either go behind the statue or restealth while listening to Uther's Scolding. Then leave.

No pvp flagging or alerting unwanted ally attention.

I don't know if this will work for hunters or warlocks but I completed this quest without flagging today on my 60 Blood Elf Death Knight. I sent my ghoul to attack the priest and then proceeded to defile the tomb without going PvP (I'm on a PvE server).

My ghoul killed the priest just before I finished and as I mounted and began to ride out of the tomb I came face-to-face with two Alliance (a 58 Draenei Death Knight and a 58 Night Elf Druid) waiting at the entrance (obviously there to attack me if I'd flagged). Too bad for them, they didn't get what they came for.

You know first time I did this quest I felt bad for defiling Uthers tomb, also for Mehlar's reaction afterwards...

But then I began to look up lore on old Uther, and it became obvious he wasn't the saint everyone makes him out to be.
He made it clear in life that he thought the only good orc is a dead orc, rather then acting all graceful he made it clear he thought just the same as any human warrior with a mace or a sword.

He also the one who striped Tirion of his holy powers when Tirion freed Eitrigg, who saw past hostilities towards the orcs, and form a friendship with Eitrigg.

After reading up about all this, I now don't feel much regret in defiling his tomb, since I find the whole 'devine spirit' thing in that quest a load of horse poop. He was a hero but only to the alliance side, but he wasn't a saint

Just be aware on this quest of the priest around uthers tomb, if you don't have cc to control him your probably have to kill him, and it alerts alliance players exactly where at.

True, I felt bad doing this quest as well.. But I spose it is/was meant to underline how utterly morally corrupt the Blood Knights are, since Mehlar doesn't feel even slightly bad. Interesting to note, Mehlar seems to have been one of the very few true elven paladins in lore, but since then embraced the way of the Blood Knights.

Edit: I feel I might need to explain this a bit better.. Before the events of WC3, many High Elves believed in the Holy Light - something vaguely akin to belief in our buddhism (as there is no god to be believed in, just following of a few tenets such as be nice and try to become one with the world - sorry if I offended anyone with this) but with added benefits such as access to healing (holy) magic. Anyhow, most high elves who believed in the light became priests - but, I can only assume that as with humans, a few priests in the end took to the ways of the Paladin. Mehlar being a disciple of Uther himself only points to the fact that Mehlar was one of the rare (but not nonexistant) High Elf paladins. Much like most other blood elves, he must have felt that Light had forsaken him and his people, and thus, he became a blood knight that started to wield the Light by force. Wowwiki can and will enlighten you more if you want to read up about the Holy Light, Blood Knights & Paladins - and any other lore issue you can think of.

RIP Uther... I play Horde, but as alliance I would take the nice XP too. Guess I don't read lore enough to care, but thanks for the nice XP here...as a rogue I never got flagged, never had to touch him. But if defiling his tomb gives me 11K+ xp, I'm all in! lol

Uther was Arthas' mentor which means it should have been Uther's responsibility to have stopped him.

I didn't feel bad about defiling his grave.

I did this quest yesterday in a PvP realm. My tip is: don't do this quest during the Harvest Festival. There's alway a high level Alliance placing a candle for Uther. I've been killed 4 times by 4 different players.

Indeed. Both of my mains are Alliance, but I'm levelling a Horde up. I'm obviously biased, but I felt horrible after desecrating Uther's tomb. I gave his ghost a /salute, hoping to show I have no personal hatred towards him.

If anything this quest helps to confirm that Blood Elves are among the least honorable horde members, well them and the Forsaken. Uther deserved better than this from people who he died defending.

What I don't understand is how his ghost appears here, when later on we find out his soul was taken by Frostmourne.

I did this quest with my rogue while a Dwarf Warrior and a Night Elf Druid was doing the alliance side of the quest.

It cancelled the animation of their quest, Uther disappeared, tomb was defiled and I got flagged. I had to /Run and Vanish before Uther's talk. >.<

Even as an entirely Horde centered person, I refuse to do this quest, not even for the reputation or the experience. I've always had respect for Uther, and that this Blood Elf wants me to defile his grave for such an ignorant reason makes me sick.

There, that's better. I've added a little fel magic to it.

Now, you must take it to his resting place in the Western Plaguelands. Use the corrupted holy symbol in the presence of Uther's statue to defile his tomb! You'll have to get close for it to work.

To find the tomb go southeast of the Ruins of Andorhal. Return to me when the deed is done.
