If you can't see Amella, Head Egg Tender at the quest point, then you have not completed the questline for In Defense of Life. Once I completed that, then the NPC was visible.

When you 'pick up' the egg from Amella you should be able to see your character carrying it. The shrine is only a few steps away (behind Alexstrasza and Majordomo Selistra) and when you walk over to it an extra action button should pop up, click on it to hatch the egg. Head back to the quest giver for turn in.

The egg will appear on you back after you speak with Amella, Head Egg Tender walk to the Lifeshrine and click the action button to hatch the Ruby Hatchling.

if u dont see the action button its becos its transparent...i saw its invisible little square icon above my action bars,,,soooo faint...look for it middle of screeen, above ur action buttons....GL
