As long as you do not complete this quest, you can complete The Fishing Diplomat, Old Crafty and run Ragefire Chasm without being attacked by guards. No more running naked through the city being chased by guards.

You can also go explore Durotar if that's your bent.

No idea how far this phasing thing extends.

Be careful not to miss the main event in Undercity since the story continues if someone else is on the quest.
I did Ragefire Chasm, then explored Durotar and went back to Stormwind to continue the next part of the quest. I arrived when Putress was almost dead.

I just did an Orgrimmar raid while having this quest. A few of us entered and phased into the separate Orgrimmar. We stood in the room with Thrall while the rest of the raid killed the real Thrall, and we still got the achievement.

I don't think this is a separate instance. As an experiment, I got on the griffin at Ratchet and rode to Gadgetzan. Lots of horde less than level 60 were there, doing whatever quests or such. Definately PC's from my realm. I could even wave and get them to wave back at me. No zoning took place during my trip there. I got back on the griffin and went to Ogrimmar to see if I could still ride through the front entrance. Yep. Not a single guard in Ogrimmar acknowledged my presence. Didn't see any horde PC's in Ogrimmar when I got back, either. Interesting.

As far as I can tell, the phasing extends throughout Orgrimmar and Durotar, but not into the Barrens or elsewhere. Also, I think once you un-phase, you can't get back into the phased version, so be careful how far you go wandering if you're hoping to do achievements.

can you still fish up old crafty while in the phased org? i tried but all i got was grey crap

I tried fishing while phased today, seems it doesn't work anymore
I just capture nothing at all. (fishing lvl 245)
Thow it seems to be still possible to lvl up your fishing skill without actualy capturing anything.
Then again, what's the use of doing that?
Tried this at valley of spirits and valley of honor

So let me get this how this works.

Wrynn: Ok, I'll play Jaina's game, and you can get that green freaks side of the story well we get in position to attack undercity so I can claim it.

Goes talk to thrall

Thrall: I am sorry for what happened to bolvar, he was a good man and didn't deserve this fate, we both lost heroes this day. We don't want to start a war between us.

Back to Wrynn, and onto undercity.

Attack on undercity takes place, kills Putress, then Wrynn heres Thralls battlecry.

Wrynn: Argh, Kill them all, RAWRRR, ME SMASH ORC!"

Jaina: /facepalm

Needless to say, the only reason the alliance like wrynn so much is because he's as much a child as they are.

I was not able to enter Ragefire Chasm today while doing this quest. Looks like they've changed that.

Well, that was fun. Lvl 72 Draenei hunter, got to the part where Thrall tells you to take the portal back to Stormwind, but decided to go exploring instead. Got out onto the zepplin to Undercity, when there was an almost "pop" noise, and all the players and NPCs were back (or, to be precise, I was back in the normal game), with of course a bunch of Horde players on the zepplin with me, and me now flagged PVP. :P It was actually pretty funny, they all turned and looked at me, before a lvl 80 Orc started taking swings at me (yes, I ran like a coward :P lol).

I was playing around, and learned something interesting about the phasing mechanics in this quest.

As has been previously stated, when you set foot on one of the zeppelins, you become unphased. However, this effect takes a few seconds to take place once you step onto the zeppelin. This gave me enough time to run straight to the lower level of the zeppelin and avoid detection. I also noticed that you only become unphased while on the zeppelin - meaning, the rest of the world is still phased. I saw a few Horde characters waiting on the zeppelin, but below, there were still the Forsaken Refugees and the Warsong guards of the phased Durotar/Orgrimmar.
So I rode the zeppelin to Tirisfal Glades. When I got there, I hopped off, expecting to aggro guards. However, I noticed there were absolutely no NPCs, and that the Horde players who had been riding the zeppelin with me disappeared. It was then that I noticed at the top of the screen, it said "The enemy is in control of the Undercity". This means that, by riding the zeppelin, I was taken to the phased Tirisfal Glades/Undercity where the quest The Battle For The Undercity takes place. Most interesting.

So I caught the zeppelin back, repeating the process of running straight to the bottom of the zeppelin before the guards/players phased in. When I arrived in Durotar, the Horde players did their usual habit of jumping off the zeppelin early - and they disappeared in midair. This told me that I was still in the phased Durotar/Orgrimmar, which I was. The Forsaken Refugees and the Warsong guards were still present.

TLDR - The zeppelin only phases you on the zeppelin itself; the world around you stays phased. If you ride to the Undercity, you are transported to the phased Undercity, even though you're not on that quest yet. And if you ride the zeppelin back, you are put back into the phased Orgrimmar.

Amusingly enough, after following Jaina I somehow aggro'd an Orgrimmar Grunt and had to kill it by moonfire spamming (resto specced) while trying to watch to the cutscene.

Then I tried going on the zeppelin to see if it would unphase me like the comments above indicated, but I stayed in the same phase. As I was pondering this, the loading screen appeared and started dotting the path of the zeppelin from Orgrimmar to... Grom'gol.

I was then quickly taken care of by the guards on the zeppelin once I spawned in STV. Oops.
