WoW Economy Weekly Wrap-Up
Hello! Welcome to the 154th edition of the WoW Economy Weekly Wrap-up!
My name is
Samadan
and I am a content creator focusing on making gold using Professions and
TSM
. I have a number of guides over on
YouTube
and I also stream my adventures on
Twitch
.
Welcome to Week 2 of Shadowlands
This week has been a week full of ups and downs in the gold making community as many players search for the best ways to make gold in and ever changing and volatile market. We still have a high price on
Eternal Crystals
which make getting to max in Enchanting incredibly expensive as well as making some of the higher enchants too expensive to make and thus many selling for a loss.
We also have a week of changes specific to Professions, Vendor Flips and 2 x 4 farms and BoE drops. Quite significant balancing to gold making much like you would get in Classes, XP and PVP.
The Legendary Base Item market has now started to open up and we look forward to the raid and Mythic+ coming soon and what gold potential there might be there. Lots to look forward to!
Vendor Flip Nerfs
One quite significant change this week came in the form of some very specific changes in the
Patch Notes
...
Here you'll find a list of hotfixes that address various issues related to World of Warcraft: Shadowlands and WoW Classic. Some of the hotfixes below take effect the moment they were implemented, while others may require scheduled realm restarts to go into effect. Please keep in mind that some issues cannot be addressed without a client-side patch update. This list will be updated as additional hotfixes are applied.
Professions
Increased the cost of the following reagents to 9 Gold:
Luminous Flux
Machinist's Oil
Malleable Wire
Sealing Wax
Distilled Death Extract
Curing Salt
Penumbra Thread
Immortal Shard
Increased the amount of vendor reagents required for crafting several Shadowlands armor and weapon recipes.
Crafted Shadowlands weapons and armor now yield less
Soul Dust
when disenchanted.
Reduced the number of vendor reagents required for
Relic of the Past IV
and
Relic of the Past V
for all professions and expansions.
Jewelcrafters will no longer lose the “
Jewelcrafting
:
Gem Studded Bangle
” World Quest recipe when they leave and return to the world quest location.
Writ of Grave Robbing
can now be placed in Inscription bags.
This has had a significant impact on some popular Vendor Flips for
Shrouded Cloth Cape
and
Composite Bow
and the resulting bottom floor price for
Shrouded Cloth
,
Pallid Bone
and
Desolate Leather
.
Just posting this because it isn't up top right now, and others (like me) might not see the changes before it's too late.
Blizz upped the price for Penumbra Thread, as well as making the quantities you need for certain crafts higher. So if you see the price of Shrouded Cloth, Desolate Leather and Palid Bone tanking, it's because of this.
Bye bye vendor shuffle. I wish I had shuffled my mats yesterday as planned, and not have waited a day before buying threads.
Edit: Like mentioned a few times now, you can still do other things, like making bracers for disenchanting. It's just the vendor shuffle from a few days ago that isn't what it used to be
Dust price will likely keep going up. Green bracers got nerfed pretty hard with the 3x thread and 80% thread cost increase. I'm waiting for it to stabilize a bit, then it'll be back to green bracer dust selling as usual.
Reckles aka
WTBGold
also goes into an extensive analysis as to why this happened as well as exploring other ways it could've been done and what this means overall for the gold making community.
2 x 4 Farm Nerf
One of the 2x4 farms reported on
last week
in Maldraxxus has now been hotfixed..
Seem's like Blizzard is fixing our biggest love from the last days. Watched several streams while farming and exact the same thing happened right there. Mobs despawned and never came back. RiP Mald 2x4. Don't know what happened in Arden.
2 x 4 Farming is still a popular way to make gold and there always seem to be new ones discovered. Whether you do this as part of a group or use your own team, finding a location of hyperspawning mobs with good drops is the way to go.
There is still one working in Ardenweald at the time of writing ..
Last I checked, the northern one in the withered grove place next to the lake (can't recall the name right now) still works.
Legendary Base Items
u/foxduo
has shared some great information about
Things to keep in mind with Legendary base items
..
I see a lot of people getting discouraged about the tanking of legendary base items, and I just wanted to throw some things out there for people to think about.
-We are just ending week one. Base items haven’t even been usable. Demand is slim.
-Crafted legendaries have been so hyped up.. that everyone including those that don’t normally craft have joined the party trying to get rich. Amateurs will start exiting the market when they realize it’s not profitable any more. Prices will stabilize.
-The crafting cost to make it to the higher ranks is very high. Most players can’t afford to craft higher ranks. They will drop out especially if they can’t handle rank 1 as low as it is now.
-Keep in mind that every time more soul ash is unlocked, players will have to acquire another rank base item if they want to stay competitive. That’s a lot of upgrading.
-Have you seen the legendary transmog sets? Many players will want a rank 1 of every slot after they’ve gone through their first full legendary progression with torghast.
-This expansion is super alt friendly, and we are in week 1. Most players aren’t hardcore enough to have alts yet. Demand will steadily rise.
-Wow has a massive subscriber base right now. There are a LOT of players.
Everyone is all caught up in get rich quick schemes that they have forgotten that the one defining factor of actually being rich in this game: Consistency over a long period. Roll with the punches, make your moves and be patient.
I've been buying up 190/210/225 pieces that were going for sub 1k (sometimes even sub 200g) for a few days now. It's a small investment for a potential huge reward. I've currently got about 200k gold committed to it and have ran out of storage space. Let's see what happens.
Update: Started selling some of my stock off as a test to see if people were already buying. Sold 7 pieces so far for atleast 10x the investment. I think its a safe bet to buy up til atleast the crafting cost (or just the vendor mats cost if you wanna be extra safe)
It's going to be interesting watching this market as currently supply far exceeds demand until players start to catch up in what legendaries they want to make themselves.
Callings for Gold
A perhaps overlooked method for making gold has been highlighted by
u/aDayvanCowboy
...
EVERY box you get from your Callings will have 1500~2500 gold worth of gray vendor trash in it. It's like you're getting a BFA gold Emissary every day! Some callings, like the 'Kill 3 Rares' one, are insanely easy. You're also getting a ton of rep, and a chance for Anima and good Conduits. Very worth!
It's basically the equivalent of the BfA Emissaries, so worth considering when easy missions are available and you can take your alts through once they are levelled up.
Keep in mind that world quests on average now take a bit more involvement. At the moment I can get the same amount of gold by fishing for 10 minutes as I can filling an emissary bar. But I'm sure that balance is likely to change, eventually.
Don't Forget the Pet for Millionaires
And lastly, don't forget you can get a free pet if you have over a million gold on one character!
Since a lot of people rejoined the game or really started making gold with Shadowlands. There is a pet that you get for free once you have a million gold in your inventory on one character. Just go to the location with the gold and you get the little boy. Just a little bit to celebrate your million gold.
