How many is the limit and what is the interval of time?

The reason I ask was, I was using RFK to farm Briar to level up my Alch and I reset it and tried to go back in after doing it for a while and it wouldn't let me.

Like people say, its 5, but its per hour, to give a example, so you cant farm the Anchient lichen in slave pens, each reset.

To bypass the 1h reset system, just logout for more then 15 mins.
Log back in, and repeat, worked for me for farming Anchient lichen, havent tested it in along time, but i doubt they did anything to prevent this.

Sometimes the message gets kinda bugged. Anyone who has been rushing the guild achievements from old instances has probably noticed. You get funny things where half of your party can enter an instance, and an other half can not. The most high portal trouble i have had were with the Malygos portal... three people with which i have literally been in every instance that day could enter, while me and one other girl could not. Then the three of them went out, and tried to go in again. It only let TWO in, and one was suddenly stuck with the same message as me and the girl. The two tried re-entering the instance, and succeeded. And i repeat, they did go with us to every single instance we were in that day.

(And we had no warlock, just if anyone wanted to start thinking with portals.)

Also dungeon finder negates the 5 dungeon per hour rule entirely, I remember chain running heroics in WoTLK doing 5 - 9min runs and never once hitting the hourly dungeon cap.

Its 5 instances per hour "entered" per account. So it counts everything you have done on your alts alsocounts every entry you have made not just completed instances. Its completely normal, only thing blizz could provide was a timer for this block to be visible.
Well, yes. I knew of this. That is why i spent so much effort to make it clear in my post that i really did go to the same instances with the same guys, and it simply divided the group into 3:2.

Agreed, but not like it's needed in this case - chances that you'll get 5 times in a row the same dungeon AND the one that you want to farm are almost 0.

It's five dungeons per hour per account, period. Not five RFCs in an hour. If you cap one character on five RFCs, any of your other characters will be unable to enter any dungeon until the timer resets.

Of course, LFD bypasses this.
