You can also use
winetricks
to easily download stuff like this in the future as well. Also, I would suggest you upgrade wine (and keep it up-to-date).

The wine versions in the Ubuntu repository are extremely old. The latest version is 1.1.34 which is only available via Wine's repository (more information available
here
) and is generally more stable than the "stable" version.
Edit: I am running WoW just fine on 1.1.33.

The package is called wine1.2, but the installed version is 1.1.34. Don't ask me why, cause I don't know. 1.1.34 was just pushed out today, I have installed it, run winetricks and everything seems to be okay . . . just have to wait for the servers to come back up.
The packages site says that
wine1.2 == 1.1.31
, so you are most likely using the official wine repository.
Well, lucky you. All I get is error messages and it is driving me nuts.
Why oh why could I not just leave the stupid thing alone?
"If it ain't broke, don't fix it..."
Well, "fixing" it has it good and broke now for sure.
The stupid thing STILL does not show wine as being installed, it will not uninstall wine nor will it install wine no matter what I do.
Are you running "apt-get remove wine" or "apt-get remove wine1.2"?

Try running this:
sudo apt autoclean && sudo apt autoremove

The first command will remove any cached packages and the second will remove any packages that are scheduled to be automatically removed (for example, if you install package A which depends on B and then remove A, B will not be removed until you run autoremove). These commands probably won't fix your problem, but they won't break anything either so it is worth a shot.
