Wowhead is not a charity, they are here to make money. The people who put it up are doing their paid jobs so they can put food in the fridge. Wowhead has only one source of revenue: ads. Naturally those ads must be visible to be effective. Blocking the ads, while enjoying the product, is essentially the scam. There's a cost to everything.
I agree with that.....Quit complaining that a free site has ads. A guy has a right to make a living. He made a great site, and if the "price" i have to pay is seeing ads on the pages then that's fine. Frankly I tune them out anyway.
Ads are on almost every website - the revenue from them is the only thing keeping the internet "free". Otherwise folks would have to start charging membership fees to access the content.
Under most models, simply having the ads in view generates no revenue. So if you think by not blocking the ads but instead just tuning them out provides revenue to Wowhead, you may be mistaken. Most ad-models generate revenue based on click-throughs.
I used Firefox with Adblock and NoScript. I never knew this broke EULAs of many sites as another poster stated. I can understand the AdBlock because it's mostly to avoid ads so you aren't hassled or distracted. I never blocked the ads on Wowhead until the annoying-type ads started appearing which seemed to coincide with the new ownership and I assume a change in ad providers at that time.
NoScript is another story - with malicious code that can be injected into images or flash content, etc using this add-on is a matter of security and if a EULA requires me to browse in a more insecure fashion I guess they'll have to ban my IP if they choose but I'm not browsing without it.
I personally wouldn't have an issue in the first place if advertisers were respectful of their viewership. If you want to place an ads on websites, that's fine. Make it creative, witty or humorous and I might actually click through. However, advertisers more often seem to go the route of using annoying shaking ads or insert annoying sounds and worst of all are the ones that try to deceive their viewership by emulating dialog boxes, etc. Proactively using tools at my disposal to avoid this harassment and attempted deception is reasonable in my mind, even if it may break some EULAs.
With that said, I personally have no issue with financially supporting the products and services I value. I'd be willing to make a donation to Wowhead or possibly pay for a subscription service/premium service.

By using a service you agree to the ToS. That's not just unique to individual ToSs, it's actually the law.
1) Every website out there does not have a ToS, and as I clarified above, the ToS should be shown prior to the arrival on the actual website for you to be able to agree with it before you violate it.
2) Which law? Finnish law? 'cos I'm Finnish. I know the American "law" has a few funny things concerning the usage of the internet, but fortunately for me, I'm not bound by it.
exactly You cant agree to something you
1. never heard of or
2. Never awsnered to
If you log onto a site and it says all ads must be shwon do you accept then you block them..you are breaking the law
But if it lets you go straight on in then you are not breaking the law
