Problems getting target macros to work

Hi,
Quite often when looking at threads regarding quests that need us to find a npc or a mob oof a certain type I see in comments a suggestion for a target macro such as:
/target Shado-Pan Scout
/run SetRaidTarget("target", 4)
This is a macro for the quest
실종된 정찰병
for example. However - I never get these sort of macros to work. I'm using the above macro but all I get is "You have no target", with my toon saying "I need to target something first".
Could anyone suggest what it is I'm doing wrong?
Cheers.

They won't work if the mob mentioned in the /target is out of range.
The idea of those kinds of macros is to spam the hell out of it while moving around until it targets something. The second line puts a raid mark on it so it's easier to spot once you find it.

Ah I see. Also, since trying again it did suddenly work, so I guess I was then in range, or a suitable NPC had respawned.
Any idea if there is some code that will also put a navigation arrow on the UI? or perhaps onto the minimap?

To a specific mob? No. The information simply isn't available to players. TomTom will put a waypoint arrow on the screen to a specific set of coordinates though.

You can improve that macro a bit, in any case...
/cleartarget
/target Shado-Pan Scout
/stopmacro
/run SetRaidTarget("target", 4)
With that, it will clear your
target
first, then try to target the mob. If no mob is targeted, it will not even try to set the icon.
Also, a little while ago they added tracking for your
target
and your
focus
which can be configured via the tracking button on the minimap. While you can't really read the coordinates of your target, you can glance over at the map and see where your target is in relation to you.
