Your brain, I'd imagine.
What are the limitations of this? If I believe I feel like it, could it be that I am that which I am physically not?

Well, I should probably have mentioned the likelihood a mutation in the DNA, but the physical ramifications of that is most likely to be expressed in the brain. And yes, if your brain is physically and electrochemically wired oppositely to your body's sex, then that would probably be possible.

How does someone who was born with the body of a boy know that he has the mind of a girl (or vice versa)?

And the measure of this is feelings? What about if it comes after birth, from environment? Are people who feel they are made transgender by their environment not legitimately transgender?

By identity. Just like how homosexuals fundamentally know, most of the time, that they are unattracted to the opposite sex.Well, I should probably have mentioned the likelihood a mutation in the DNA, but that's most likely to be expressed in the brain. It's likely that nature and nurture both play roles, but the genetic role would probably outweigh any environmental ramifications. My dad used to smack me around when I acted camp as an extremely young kid (in the 2-4 range, yes my sexuality was expressing itself at that age), that didn't turn me into a manly, straight guy.

If gender is defined by the brain and not the body, why do people care about what kind of body they have? How is it relevant?
PS Thank you for answering all of these questions.

So, you respect that someone can choose to be that which they are physically not based on the way that they feel, even if there is no biological reasoning for it? Is this limited to gender? Can someone also be trans species? If not, why not?

Because your body doesn't match, and is a constant reminder that you are in the
wrong
body.

No, because like I said the genetics would likely outweigh any environmental influences. If you dye your hair blonde for long enough, it doesn't miraculously turn naturally blonde, because the environment is not changing your chemical composition. The difference between genders and species in terms of DNA and brain functions/structure would make trans speciesism almost impossible, I would imagine.

But how does the body not match? What makes a female body right for a female, and a male body right for a male?

The way it feels to them, as in they don't feel comfortable in the body no matter what; honestly, Mila is the best person to ask these questions too, since she is undergoing it.

What I said a few posts ago. Genetics and the way the brain is wired up.

Laihendi is not satisfied with Patty's last answer so he will wait for Mila.

Laihendi is simply asking questions so that he may learn about something that he does not understand (which is presumably the point of this thread).
So then, are some transgender people uncomfortable with the bodies they are born with because they frequently do not satisfy the expectations that others have for them based on their physical appearance? If so, why do they want to satisfy the expectations of those people?

It's probably more to do with knocking down your self-esteem every time you're treated like something that you in your mind know you, fundamentally, are
not
.

Are you going to answer any of Laihendi's questions or not? He came here to learn about transgender issues, and each of his questions so far have been serious. If you just want to argue and be offended, please say so and Laihendi will stop bothering with this thread.
