For the veterans of the virtual domain, what do you hold nostalgia for in MMORPG gaming?
I miss a time when there were no "terribad" and "elitist" players, everyone played for fun.
I miss random people roleplaying even in non roleplay environments.
I miss chat about the actual game going on in public chat channels... you know, as opposed to religious/political debates, call outs, arguements and chuck norris.
go!

When was this and what game was it? People at the top always make fun of people at the bottom. I don't care what game you're playing, it happens.
1998. Back when people played for the fun of existing in a virtual world , back before mmos became mainstream and brought with it all the "look I haz epicz lulz" players.

Kinda... I think people play for epics now because its what you do at the end-game, in order to not play for epics the endgame would have to be fundamentally different.
What I miss, is people caring more about the world and its lore than about the game mechanics. In many ways it was easier back then to accept the world as a world, without people trying so hard to deconstruct the game into its statistics. Of course underneath the game itself is about stats, and GearScore and Recount are the extremes of that, but it wasn't given as much importance back then.

Fixed that for you.
I don't understand why it's considered bad for the 'elite' to insult the 'casuals' but perfectly fine for the 'casuals' to insult the 'elite'.
I've seen more people calling people no-lifers for having done well in a game than the other way around. I bet we all have, the good old "haha nub nolifer, i play for fun and have a gf with big bewbs and millions of dorrars who owns blizzard!".
Back on topic, I miss the time where a game's success was based on content and not subscriptions nor sales *cough* WoW and Halo *cough*.
