Demon Hunter: Leather but not Mail?

The official WoW website lists that the new Demon Hunter will wear leather armor instead of mail armor.
Did they make any mention of this during the conference? Was there any particular reasoning given?
It's my slight OCD kicking in, but mail is the only armor class with only 2 classes in it at this time. The costumes of the demon hunters could honestly go either way, since there's only a slight distinction between the two in visual appearance.
Maybe they should just look at restructuring how they handle armor categories.(##RESPBREAK##)16##DELIM##hatman555##DELIM##Bumping for Science!

My two thoughts on this are:
1.) Maybe leather because there is already two tanking classes that use leather so similar itemization will help cut down on item drops that no one needs.
2.) Conq token is getting a new friend! =P Even drop rates now?! Sharing is caring right?
Cheers,

Yeah, I totally predicted a Mail wearing class and I'm actually kinda surprised that they didn't mix more elements of the Diablo Demon Hunter to give the class a ranged spec and let it wear mail.
Since they're sticking with the classic WoW style Demon Hunter it makes perfect sense to be a leather wearer and we'll just have to hope that they can balance the drops to not feel too weird. In
an interview
Blizz said that they're not too worried because of the Personal Loot system but I must admit that that worries me even more since, as an organised raider, I don't want random systems to be more effective than deliberate systems like Loot Council, or even EPGP. Still, it's a minor point to get worried about this early on so I'll stay optimistic that they have it in hand.

They said in an interview with icy veins that they went ahead with leather due to the new loot system making armor types less relevant than before. Otherwise they would have been mail wearers in all likelihood.
I saw that in the interview too. I think they're right in that mechanically, the new loot system means that leather v. mail doesn't matter so much. However, in terms of transmog, it means that leather-wearers tend to have more options than mail-wearers. Not a game-breaker, but somewhat annoying.
1.) Maybe leather because there is already two tanking classes that use leather so similar itemization will help cut down on item drops that no one needs.
If they ever go back to having pure defensive stats on armor-typed gear (i.e. not capes, rings, etc.), then this would make sense. However, I think their current gear model uses only secondary stats that would be useful to
anyone
, whether tank, dps, or healer.

I must admit that that worries me even more since, as an organised raider, I don't want random systems to be more effective than deliberate systems like Loot Council, or even EPGP.
My guess is that for non-personal loot, the overall rough frequency for plate/mail/leather/cloth will follow a model similar to how they handled tokens:
plate = 3 / 12
mail = 2 / 12
leather = 4 / 12
cloth = 3 / 12
This will mainly create weirdness for teams with a disproportionately high mail-wearer count or low leather-wearer count, since I don't think they alter the loot table based on team in non-personal loot scenarios.
I think the most optimized team for loot would probably be a team of 12 with exactly one of each class, or of 24 with two of each, which leaves out the Mythic 20-teams.
