Honestly, its better to tell the Guild master about that bad egg so that the entire guild isn't dragged down into a hole of shame and dishonor. Most Guild master's would have a talk with the person in question, or kick them. From my experience with this, nearly all of the Guild masters were quite glad that I told them about the bad egg.
So, it tends to be the right thing, letting the guild master know about the bad egg.

What I find is, you talk to the GM, the GM talks to the person in question, that person end up leaving on their own anyway from being "hassled". at least if the person hasn't invested much time to the guild and has no friends in it.
But yeah theres no harm in telling your GM that a particular player rubs you the wrong way. its especially good if you can get a group of people who feel the same way to approach the GM at the same time. literally group up in-game, inv the GM and have a talk. its easier to convince someone of an issue when its not just you representing a group, but instead an entire group confirming your thoughts.

I have no issues reporting people to their GMs when appropriate.
(i.e. A pally who took 5 mins on the double healer pull in H nexus after barely threating (and leaving to stand outside consec) one of the healers in that horrible double-healer pull, skulling the melee then kicking me for DPSing the caster when I realised he wasnt going to HoJ/AT any heals it cast.
Ironically he decided my spec was "appaling" for PvE. I was FG/Ember at the time...)

I've been a guild officer on and off since I started playing WoW. In those guild the officers were very appreciative to receive info about bad behavior from our members. In cases where we could verify what happened, or when a pattern emerged, we'd discuss it with the member. Then if the situation continued or the offense was grievous enough the member would be put on probation or kicked.

What are the rules about BoE drops? I never roll need on them, even when they are upgrades for me. My thinking is that if it's BoE (especially blue or purple) everyone should have the same shot since they could provide value to any player, and if they're blue or purple that value is immense.

Personally, I have no problem rolling need on a BoE that's an upgrade. There's a world of difference in my mind between getting an item for the purpose of an upgrade, or grabbing it for the express purpose of selling it.
It depends on the group, though, and what's been discussed beforehand. I confirm with the group that it's ok for me to roll need on something, and respect their decision. Granted, usually, if I'm told I can't roll on a BoE item because of greed issues, I leave the group after the roll is concluded. Likewise if someone else is told such.
Interesting and good to know.

As a GM myself I would want to know if one of my members was doing this.
This is how bad names get started and it is a clear case of the tired and true saying, "One bad apple ruins the bunch."

Put simply the tank is at fault. If you get in a group with completely random people it is in your best interest to have master looter on. This tank was the group leader you said, so it's his own damn fault for not putting on ML.
As for the fact that he kicked the DK, that was REALLY stupid. 9/10 chances the tank would of just sold the item himself anyway, kicking somone (and right before the last boss) is one of the dumbest things you can do. You basicly just cut your chances of getting the bossed killed and the DK still gets to keep his item. At the end of the day the Tank just looks childish. Swearing and flipping out about it does not help at all.
As for representing his guild...
Unless he is a member of a very tightly run guild I doubt anything will be done about it even if you tell him GM. You may just come off as annoying if you *!@#$ about it too much.

You
should not have talked to the GM, the
tank
should have talked to him or her. You simple should have sent a tell to the tank giving him the idea and leaving it at that- it is his responsibly to decide what to do from there and not yours since all you did was offer some very sound advice.
That's my two cents
Actually, since the OP was bothered, possibly offended, by what transpired, he should contact the GM. The guild officers are generally entrusted with defending the guilds reputation and enforcing its policies. Bad behavior is in the eye of the beholder. Anyone witnessing it is free to act and inform the guild of the event
