Don't buy that crap - using a raid frames add-on, for healing or otherwise, is perfectly alright, and done by most higher-end raiders. That doesn't mean
you
have to use one, if you would prefer not to, but don't let your friends dissuade you from trying them out.
I personally use VuhDo; Grid and Healbot are other good options.

I did some comparisons the first time my brother in law said that Healbot responds slower than Blizzards own setup. On my computer blizz's was in fact slower than healbot to respond (did the testing on a friend who sat next to me in the sofa when he was my tank in a 5 man).
For me, addons have saved me more times then i can think of...and i bet that those healer friends of yours play with macros instead of addons ;) If so then they are relying on "other means" to achieve better healing too, just a different approach :)
potato PotAto ^^
oh, i used to use Healbot but went over to Vuhdo. Both are really good i just prefer Vuhdo atm ;)

My main is a warlock so please bare with me. All my friends that play a healer class say that using heal add ons (like healbot) is for newbletts. Is that really the case?
Is healing without an add on like healbot "better", or are they blowing smoke up my a$$?
(I know its not really a sham Q, but i decided to lvl mine so thats the reason why i posted it here.)
Yes, they're blowing smoke. Some people do a decent job without addons, but addons can also enable you to keep your eyes on multiple people at a time, and use your abilities to their utmost. Addons can allow you to see where some of your healing effects are still proccing (like Heal-over-Time spells, or absorbs), so you might not have to worry about particular individuals as much.
Don't sell yourself short. Get a good healing addon -- I highly recommend VuhDo! -- but keep a spellbar or two for your healing abilities, so you can target something or someone and heal "the unbuffed, old fashioned way". (This is necessary, even, for encounters like Dreamwalker in ICC)

The reason most people say "addons are for noobs" is because back in the day, you could set addons to automatically pick a target and a spell for you, so all you had to do was click a single button and it would heal for you. That day is gone.
What addons do now is take and display the information in a much better manner, and streamline the healing process. Westrock covered what they can do very well, but being able to click a box and have it heal is a much simpler process than clicking the box and then pushing an action button. You still are in full control (you choose the target and the heal) but there's one less step involved.
