What things can a paladin do?
Healing: Holy paladins and off-specialization healing.
Holy paladins are the most efficient single target healer.
Protection or retribution paladins can still heal, they just need experience and good gear: This will occur in regular 5-man instances when the group leader decides that you are in need of a healer and raids where a healer needs support.

Tanking: Protection paladin, off-specialization tanking, off-tanking and trash tanking.
Protection paladins are the multi-target tanks.

Off-tanking is the description of a high stamina character in melee range in second place on the threat meter. The off-tank is there to absorb damage from the special attacks.
Trash tanking happens in raids where random adds pop up, a holy or retribution paladin can easily tank these with righteous fury.

Taurens will be allowed to become Paladins in Cataclysm, the Pre-release event explaining this is found in Thunder Bluff.
A Tauren is talking to another about the similarity between Elune and the Earth Mother as a deity, and that she must exist in the sun, as the Earth Mother exists in both - or something like that!
This dialogue event is near the Druid Trainers in Thunder Bluff.
Why rate down what is true?... i know its been announced... i was merely pointing out were this dialogue event takes place, for people who may be interested in watching the dialogue.....
by the way, the 2 NPCs are Aponi Brightmane and Tahu Sagewind.
EDIT: You get downrated because that is information is avaible in the Cataclysm section of the website. So people feel no need to have it here too.

That's probably because you cannot blink out of Repentance, it is an incapacitate, not a stun.
Puts the enemy target in a state of meditation,
incapacitating
them for up to 10 sec. Any damage caused will awaken the target. Usable against Demons, Dragonkin, Giants, Humanoids and Undead.
Teleports the caster 20 yards forward, unless something is in the way. Also frees the caster from
stuns
and bonds.
Incapacitate isn't a stun, 'nooby' Paladin. :)

The below is a reply to a question no longer here about why there was barely any undead NPC's wielding holy light.
Basicly... the two things aren't compatible.
Undead beings using the Light are mentally cauterized by the act.. In other words, feeling pain like being burned up from inside out.
The only reason why Forsaken Priests willingly use holy spells in-game are because of balance, Lore-wise, they'd prefer a healthy jolt of shadowy magic anyday.

Just thought I'd throw my source here.
Without spoiling too much, we can tell you that wielding the Light is a matter of having willpower or faith in one's own ability to do it.
That's why there are evil paladins (for example, the Scarlet Crusade and Arthas before he took up Frostmourne).
For the undead (and Forsaken), this requires such a great deal of willpower that it is exceedingly rare, especially since it is self-destructive.
When undead channel the Light, it feels (to them) as if their entire bodies are being consumed in righteous fire.
Forsaken healed by the Light (whether the healer is Forsaken or not) are effectively cauterized by the effect: sure, the wound is healed, but the healing effect is cripplingly painful.
Thus, Forsaken priests are beings of unwavering willpower; Forsaken (and death knight) tanks suffer nobly when they have priest and paladin healers in the group; and Sir Zeliek
REALLY
hates himself.

It should be noted that certain races have alternate names for paladins. For example, blood elf paladins are "Blood Knights," draenei paladins are "vindicators," and tauren paladins will be "sunwalkers."

I've noticed, at level 71 (which is where I am currently)
Holy DPS
isn't half bad.
I get a lot of beef though, but I simply say "If I wanted to heal, I'd queue as healer."
If you use Holy Shock, Holy Wrath, Exorcism, Judgement and Crusader Strike, you get petty good dps, along with melee.
Side Note: Manage your cooldowns; Find a rotation.
Normally, I stick around 900 dps if I faceroll those spells, using Consecration makes me spike to 1000 dps.
You'll nonchalantly heal anyways, because of the spells' abilities.
As for your Holy Power, Word of Glory on the tank when the healer slacks will help with that area.
SINCURHOLYTHRSN0TV4UBRO. (Since you're holy, you don't get Templar's Verdict.)
It's also very gear dependent; long story short: Ret gear will get you nowhere in Holy. (Kinda obvious though, right?)
Healer gear is what you'll need. There's a very specific way to spec to make sure you get your dps fix.

An undead is something that a paladin is best against. They won't go together. If you think about it, you will literally suicide if you cast out your exorcism.
I don't have a link but i remember blizzard stating that if something was in contact or somehow changed by evil, it will never be able to hold the power of the light. This was a comment about the worgen not being able to be paladins.
i'm thinking that orcs, night elves, worgen, and undead will never be able to become paladins.

As of 4.0.6 with sacred shield(ret) bubble as soon as it procs, immediately start hearthing and sacred shield will absorb dmg and allow non-interrupted casting until you are gone =)

I love my Paladin and it is my favorite class, slightly above the Priest. Here is my input on the class.
Note: On Heroic: Ultraxion, glyphing for Divine Protection and using Hand of Sacrifice on a player who is taking the hit for Hour of Twilight is extremely helpful! If you are on first Hour of Twilight as a healer and you're planning to take the red crystal, using your bubble on the first go and using your glyphed Divine Protection on the second is helpful. Your Paladin bubble
DOES
remove the crystal effect!
Holy:
This is a fantastic and powerful healing spec. From my personal experience throughout the game, Paladins are the easiest to heal through fights. Not much Spirit is needed, so reforging into Spirit is normally unneeded.
Through Dragon Soul, Paladins are one of the best healers for it. For some it may be difficult to run and heal on Heroic: Morchok, but it's no problem if you have an additional healer on your side. If they carry a shield and are not glyphed for their Divine Protection, they can easily soak for Morchok on Heroic.
(Although, if you have a Rogue, let them soak!)
When leveling up a Paladin, it can be tiring while you're waiting to receive your Beacon of Light, but don't worry, because it's not difficult to heal without it. Once you're able to learn the Seal of Insight, keep that on you for healing and mana restoration.
The 4 set from the Dragon Soul tier bonus DOES make a healing difference! 5% may not seem like a lot, but heal Ultraxion without the bonus, then with the bonus. A lot less healing required = a lot more mana saved.
Protection:
Tanking for a Paladin is easy once they get their Hammer of the Righteous. Once they learn that, they can pull multiple groups and not worry about losing threat. The Divine Guardian use is really nice, as it is a fantastic damage reduction cooldown.
As Paladins are not the most healer friendly tanking class, they are not too difficult to get the proper stats to become healer friendly. Mastery is a definite plus, as you block more attacks (80+). Before you're able to get Mastery, using your cooldowns effectively will save hectic group wipes.
When you reach 85 on your Paladin, the 4 set bonus from the Dragon Soul tier set is excellent for Heroic: Dragon Soul, as well as a few normal bosses.
Retribution:

This spec is very easy to mess up on DPS, so I am here to help you out! Glyph of Exorcism is helpful with DPS, for when it you cast it onto a mob, it will leave a dot. Use Seal of Truth for single target and Seal of Righteousness for AoE.

No more Aura's, really, save for Devotion Aura which is just a damage soak cool down. And let us not neglect the highly anticipated and controversial Shockadin! With current LIVE talents, abilities, and Glyphs, they are fun and viable in PvP without being over powered, and make questing and dailies a breeze. Unless major changes happen again, as did just a few days before Cata launched, the Shockadin will at least be a viable leveling spec for Pandaria, if not a fun, and potentially deadly, PvP player as well.

Paladins are really strong. If you are in a protection spec, then you have the ability to heal and shield yourself just by being protection. Especially, When you can fight 14 creatures of your level all at the same time.

I play Retribution and take the two-handed option, but even I can see from their Plate armour, Shields, Glyphs, Blessings, Seals and base abilities that Paladins are primarily designed for Tanking. Even as a Retribution Paladin I can just soak up the damage.
DPS is only bad for Paladins if you forget about all the Holy damage they do. While contrary to belief it doesn't actually affect the Undead more, nobody has any particular resistance to it either. It just requires you to keep an eye on that Holy Power gauge.
True, you have to concentrate on the game so you can't download porn quite so easily, but... that's what you're supposed to do when you have a charging gauge, y'know?

My main is a Warrior, but when I made my first pally I realised that it has much better controll when figthing multiple targets. Might be lazy of me to play a "hybrid" character instead of my warrior who is mainly a fury warrior, but I like the healing options while being in some dungeon with a healer watching something else while he's playing the game. Haven't tried my pally in PvP yet, but after reading some on the forums I belive I could go in there with some ease. :)

Did a bit of research: In medieval times and even Ancient Rome, the word 'paladin' would be used to describe an elite soldier. Sometimes meant as a royal guard, sometimes meaning a knight with some political power.
The word paladin comes from Palatine Hill, a hill in Ancient Rome where the Imperial Palace was located. They were Emperor Constatine's special troops.
The term was later resurrected by Dungeons & Dragons in the 70's to mean a knight tied to a religious organization, which is what we know it as nowadays! :D Interesting!

My Thoughts on Paladins:
I have only ever played Retribution Paladins, but I absolutely love Retribution Paladins. Nice damage output with the ability to heal as needed should never be underestimated.
I have soloed quest on a level 20 Paladin that most other classes would struggle with; I have soloed the same quest on a Disciple Priest though.

When dealing with DK, Prism of Light can be lethal weapon... I mean, if that attack works like chain-reaction it does insane ammount of damage!

can someone help please...I am a lvl 41 Draenel paladin and all of a sudden both my mounts which I have been riding the Exarch Elekk and Great Exarch Elekk have disappeared on the hot bar it says I have not collected them but they are not in my mount list they are in the list not the one at top with useable mounts says same in other list ...sorry hope that makes sense...I am new to wow please any ideas how I get them back ?

seem like as of 7.2.5, draenei can mount chargers (and warhorses).
i don't know if you need to have a human paladin to unlock it, as i already got one.
can someone confirm you don't need a human or dwarf paladin for unlocking it?
also, argent charger seem now to be account wide. you still have to be a paladin to mount it, but you don't have to buy it again.

I've been reading on the WoW forums how some people get to a point and have no more quests available. This happened to me on my second paladin.
I put in a ticket and started working on my mount quest (I have them all but I wanted the easy 15k resources.) I got to the part where

wanted me to do an invasion so I waited for one to pop up. Luckily it was the one in Azsuna because as I was checking to see which areas I wanted to do, I seen an orange exclamation point on my map. It was the quest

My "dumb" review of Paladin.
What I think of Paladin.
People hate Paladin's righteousness so they take away the church or allegiance and maybe that is enough to corrupt the Paladin, but maybe some Paladin's have this sense of self righteousness and it comes from themselves. So a Paladin is always a Paladin unless they give up on their self righteousness or just tap out to their adversaries. Maybe even Death Knights are make from Paladins that just give up to Mr. Death. So from that assumption, I believe they hate those Paladins and want to rip them apart to subatomic particles. So a Paladin would burn with cosmic energy but keep their earth bound body as a medium to weave the cosmos. Not a wizard but a type of fire that fel demons hate so much because maybe they accept their counter part energy which is the nightmare one. A Paladin with no ties to any alliance are potential fire starters. They think like.. Gods I guess, but even they are the Gods that burn and weave Cosmic fire.
