Based on the "Reagent for" tab, this looks to be what you need to use to put new tinkers on your gear.

Edit - patch changed it to all tinkers.

It's also basically a substitute for reagents of older engineering perks (like Nitro Boosts or Tazik Shocker) so you won't need to keep or look for older materials like Handful of Obsidium Bolts or Saronite Bars.

Well at least it's what it looks like at this most recent PTR Build (15961)

These are on engineering vendors and Jeeves on 5.0.4 live, so I'm assuming they'll stay that way.

Seems odd to me at the moment that the reagents are all Pandaria mats.... I'm not really digging the idea of having to buy mats for tinkers for my current
level (tinkers can be availible as early as lvl60) from someone who is lvl90.

I really think they should change the materials to something from the lower level zones. Netherweave Cloth, Thorium Bars and a mote of earth, for example.

These items are sold by engineering supplies vendors, but are also crafted by 550+ engineering. It doesn't make much sense since the materials are quite expensive, and all tinkers are lower than 550 skill level.

(Mark 1) seems to now be the only tinker that has unique mats.

Only thing that sucks is the most used enchant for me is now Synapse Springs. Since they moved the spinal healing injectors to the belt instead of gloves, I lose my speed boost while tanking to take the self heal. The Syanpse Springs are great now that the conversion from strength > parry highly favors them over any other tinker.

I am sure this will not last forever. But for now, this item makes leveling late engineering a brute force game played with vendored items instead of otherwise precious mats. Kind of like inscription origamis.

At the time of this writing, you can level 380-385, 390-395, 400-420, 425-450, and (according to Wowhead pre-MOP) 525-550 by simply throwing enough of these at the various recipes.

It remains to be seen if these will be pulled from regular vendors once MOP hits as it is craftable, or i it will remain to be bought like glyph erasers.

Tbh, I find it to be the easiest way to level my engi up. The mats aren't too bad, and it goes gray at 585 which is pretty darn good. Plus you can use the kits for a lot of stuff, so it's not like they're going to waste.

Tinker's Kit is sold by Jeeves, Scrapbot and most Engineering Vendors at only 2 Gold each (before discounts).
This makes Engineering Tinkers one of the cheapest profession-enchants existing, if not the cheapest. There is no more reason to craft Tinker's Kit on your own (at max engineering skill), don't waste your time - only craft it yourself, if you got the materials laying around in your bags or need to level up engineering.

Macros for smart & convenient activation of engineering tinkers:

I hate this item! Whenever I paste Ghost Iron Bolts (quite often) into the crafting screen this damn thing is selected by default, and I end up making some of these before I get a chance to cancel it! And no Blizzard isn't satisfied with you accidentally making just one, they make you make 2 at a time! Each Tinker box costs you 1 Ghost Iron bolt (arg, the thing I'm trying to make!), 1 High Exp Gun Powder, and 1 Windwool cloth! I want to stress that each Ghost Iron Bolt costs 1.5 Ghost Iron Bars, and I can't even auction these damn tinker boxes for the price 1/2 of one Ghost Iron bar, it's really a gold sink to accidentally make these!

Am I imagining things, or did Gnimo (a vendor from Reins of the Traveler's Tundra Mammoth mount) sell Tinker's Kit before WoD..? I remember making my tinkers (like Nitro Boosts) easily, and now I opened Gnimo's vendor window instinctively and... there's no Tinker's Kit. So I don't know if I imagined that, or this item was removed from Gnimo's sell list?

As the tinkers are a profession recipe these can be stored in the bank so you don't have to waste a bag space and you can improve anytime you get new gear.

Really the only thing these are good for at max level is the golbin glider when you can't fly. The water gliding jets are way too situational and the nitro boost can easily kill you when they backfire. Haven't tried the cardboard assassin yet and the mind control dish sounds at least fun. Everything else is pretty much useless due to small numbers.

Disappointing that in Patch 8.3, engineers won't be able to use a Tinker's Kit to upgrade their Ashjra'kamas, Shroud of Resolve to cast Goblin Glider.
Professions, especially engineering, used to be fun, but the benefits are being systematically removed.

At level 10 (post Shadowlands level squish), I rushed to get to Northrend Engineering skill level 30 so I could apply Nitro Boosts to my belt while leveling. Sadly, when I tried to apply this tinker to my item level 10 belt (from Exile's Reach, fwiw), I got an error message saying "Target is too low level." At level 22, I picked up an item level 29 belt, and the tinker worked.

So the minimum belt item level (post-squish) that I can apply Nitro Boost tinkers to is more than 10 but no higher than 29... if that helps anyone.

I realized I was out of these when I tried to apply the Nitro Boosts to a new belt I received, and found no one in Oribos that sells them. A quick port back to Dalaran fixed that, so I stocked up.
