This trinket lowers your critical strike threat by -54 threat.

For comparison, the Timelapse Shard (http://www.wowhead.com/?item=29181) rewarded from the Keepers of Time at Exalted is an instant -901 threat every 2 minuttes.

Prism of Inner Calm is a very nice trinket, which indirectly allows you to do more DPS, but considering what else is available to raise your DPS at the same itemslot, I wouldn't value this one by a whole lot - Unless you have severe aggro problems.

Since its a static amount of threat off each crit, this generally wouldn't help casters (mages or warlocks who crit big once or twice every 10 seconds).

Assuming you've got a 30% crit chance, you'd need to be attacking once every 1.2 seconds to benefit more from this than from the Keepers of Time trinket. Obviously the only classes that'd do this are the dual wield ones - rogues, warriors, shammies. Like Acidpants220 said, the higher your crit (or the faster you hit), the more this will reduce your threat.

This trinket is trash. My shadowbolt crits gives me like ~4300 threat. I dont see how -54 can help me at that point. And I have to say that the tank is always ahead of me. So that is the reason we're rolling on it instead of using DKP. (Didnt drop so far, but I bet its gonna be a free nexus or two.)

The trinket reduces threat on physical crits by 54, but on spell crits it reduces threat by 216.

Here's a little theorycraft on what this would do for a mage.
Assuming the mage is fire speced doing 1000 DPS, with 30% crit, 10% reduced threat from talents and 30% from salvation. Doing a rotation of fireball/fireblast:

1000x.9x.7 = 630 threat per sec.
Fireball = 3 sec cast, 60/3= roughly 20 casts per min, assuming there's fireblast in the rotation then it's doable.
20x.3 = 6 crits per min avarage.
6x216 = 1296 threat reduced over 1 min.
1296/60 = 21.6 threat reduction per sec.
21.6/630 = 3.43% reduced threat, and consequently, 3.42% more DPS you can do without pulling agro.

1000x.0342=34.2 additional DPS per sec, x60 = 2052 additional damage you can do in a min without pulling agro.

Clearly a trinket for classes with high crit and high DPS. I wouldn't say it's useless for casters, if you actually have beastly DPS already and are heavily crit based, it would be quite decent. I'd say DPS warriors would see the most benefit, plus they have no agro dump unlike most casters. Enhancement shamen, mages, and destro locks would be able to get get some good use from this trinket also.

For Feral Druids I don't believe it’s worth using, rather than keeping the Malorne set bonus (proc: 10 rage or 20 energy), and then just using Cower every once in a while (Cower (Rank 5) reduces threat by 1170).

This is of course pure theory, but if we crit for say 350 with normal, white attacks (with Sunder Armor etc. on the target), then we only generate 350 – 54 = 296 threat, if the -54 threat is correct.

If we then say we have 30% crit chance and the fight lasts 10 minutes (with pure damage on the target and no special attacks) then the math should look like this:

350 dmg x (10 x 60) = 210,000 dmg over 10 min (or 600 sec)

210,000 dmg / 100 x 30% crit chance = 63,000 dmg

However, the threat is only reduced by 54, not 350, which means:

63,000 / 350 x 54 = 9,720 threat

9,720 / 210,000 x 100 = 4.628571429 = ~4.63%

4.63% reduced threat? Is it worth it?

Correct me if the math is wrong ^^

For comparison Fetish of the Sand Reaver (http://www.wowhead.com/?item=21647#00Rz) can be used 4 times during that fight. It reduces threat by 50% (level 70) on everything (even special attacks). On a 10 minute fight this gives approximately 6.67% reduced threat. GL getting an AQ40 group :>

Let it be noted that the threat reduction was changed to -150 threat and is no longer -54 threat.

Using the same information as posted bye Nightseer:
350 dmg x (10 x 60) = 210,000 dmg over 10 min (or 600 sec)

210,000 dmg / 100 x 30% crit chance = 63,000 dmg

Threat now reduced by -150.

63,000 / 350 x 150 = 27000threat

27,000 / 210,000 x 100 = ~12.85%

Vastly improved and probably the best threat reduction in the game.

Say I were to use this while AoE'ing with Arcane Explosion. Say it hits for 700 and thus crits for 1050. Would the trinket reduce the threat to 50 (before modifiers such as talents and salvation), or would it only affect the crit part of the damage, reducing it to 700 threat?

I'm a warlock (0/21/40)
I crit about 7-8k with 27%-32% crit (in raid ofc).
Is it worth getting this trinket to keep on dpsing all the time (my DPS is based on crits) or a dps trinket (like the crescent) is still better even if I have to pause sometimes due to my aggro ?

This tinket is also a beauty for a DW warrior.
We have no natural meens to reduce threath.
With some 33% critchance and a massive amount of attacks due to flurry, this will overally reduce threath quite allot, thus allowing to deal more damage with out over agroing..
For Classes as rouge hunter and mage this tinket is a small bit pointless as they can reduce their threath to zero with invs, vanish and FD. Locks can soulshatter if just a small bit, but it will allow them to newk more with out overagroing, Elemental shamans also have a massive spellcrit and can use this quite effecitianly.. Overally a quite good tinket

This trinket is godly for Off-spec classes like Fury Warriors, Elemental/Enhancement Shamans, Balance Druids and Retribution Paladins.

I'm assuming most guilds place priority on this trinket to those off-spec classes like mine does. First trinket that dropped went to the Balance Druid and she hasn't been able to pull aggro since. Amazing trinket!

when this is couple with the Greater Blessing of Salvation!, is the best way to be in the end of the threat list. This is a must for all high crits changes dps classes.

Enchant Cloak - Subtlety + Prism of Inner Calm+Fetish of the Sand Reaver+Bracing Earthstorm Diamond+Greater Blessing of Salvation = real fun when fully buffedproced at execute range on a big boss :p

would love to see a movie of some insain execute blasting some ware deep in BT :-)

This is a nice thing to have in your back pocket as a Retribution paladin (or any DPS, but I speak as one), but I don't think it's very godly. To be honest you're either giving up your -real- godly trinket (Darkmoon Card: Crusade) or your other trinket which would probably be a Bloodlust Brooch or Berserker's Call. Probably great to have on VR, or on bosses where threat gets sketchy (phase switchers that drop threat like Hydross/Leo), but otherwise it's wasting a trinket slot.

EDIT: After testing with this thing, I've found that this trinket is ridiculously overpowered for a Retribution paladin, and here's why: you get -1000 threat every Seal crit, as it treats it like a spell rather than a melee swing. Now, I was thinking it'd just be on Judgements, but wow. That's a LOT of threat reduction. That's probably a BoSalv in itself. Matter of fact, you can probably roll with this and never have to worry about Salv again, but I'll have to confirm that myself. Amazing. Also, this occurs for both Seal of Blood and Seal of Command.

EDIT 2: So I've raided with this trinket in hand for a while and I'm really impressed. Even though the threat reduction is affected by Salv, it doesn't appear to be affected by Fanaticism's threat reduction. So, what you often end up with (in the case of Seal of Blood anyway) is more threat reduction just by swinging your weapon and getting a Seal crit than the Seal's damage actually does (negative threat). You're actually getting the mob to like you. This allows me to go full-on DPS, or DPS earlier, on many bosses/phase changes where I previously couldn't.

This also grants a little freedom in heroics (or raids with limited Paladins) to where you don't need to keep Salvation on yourself, freeing up that blessing for Might or Wisdom, which more than makes up for the trinket slot being used.

The threat reduced by this trinket IS registered by Omen btw. Had to do a little digging to find out for sure. As long as your version is reasonably current it should work.

This is an EXCELLENT trinket for threat fights, obviously. If you're above a tank on Gurtogg, downrank to a rank 1 spell and let loose.

I'm confused: does this really work on reducing SPELL casting aggro? The tooltip and explanation above doesn't really say anything about spells, in fact, it specifically says "Crit Threat Reduction Melee" instead. The confusing part is that Thottbot (shhhh!) shows two effects, a melee threat reduction AND a spell threat reduction. So, which is correct? Before I spend a ton of DKP on this when it drops (I'm a Boomkin and really need threat reduction) I need to know if it will actually help me, without guessing.

This trinket is nothing short of amazing for a fury warrior. I picked it up a couple of months ago and it's now ALWAYS in my #1 trinket slot (Solarian's Sapphire being the other).

On tank and spank fights I was always having to slow down/stop DPS totally because I was fast gaining on the #1 position in threat, a frustrating thing to say the least. Heroic is always queued because I have a lot of hit which basically means I have excess rage even with bloodthirst and whirlwind on cooldown.

Now with this trinket (and salvation), though, I'm always below everyone on threat even if I go all out including haste potions. Even below the rogues (before they vanish, of course).

This has got to be the most rediculously amazing trinket for high output fury warriors, ever. This trinket will always be in my #1 spot for fights that I build lots of threat on easily. No exceptions.

It dropped at a fun run for my guild, there were no enhance shammies or dps warriors that day, and I got this for my mage. It certanly helps me at thrash, and aggro sensitive bosses.
Funny thing is I have always thought this trinket is reducing the aggro from crits by %50 so it was like ou are never critting.
After reading these post I'm actullay thinking of using this with arcane missiles. I let you know if it can work multiple times on one arcane missiles spell, giving me a chance to possibily (though not very likely) to have -5000 threat in 5 seconds. Including arcane make virtually no aggro with sublety talent, that would be truly amazing..

This trinket is a God-send for Destro warlocks. I regularly crit my way to the top of the threat meter, soulshatter my way back down, and then work my way back up to the top again. Being able to have this baby reduce my threat with multiple Rank 1 SB crits is worth two trinkets slots IMHO. Destro warlocks should be first on the list for this wonderful little thing.

I always thought this could have a lot of potential for destruction warlocks, who arguably have the worst threat issues of all classes. I'd love to see the result of a lock using this trinket and having a 40ish% crit rate, hit capped of course, on a fight like Brutallus. Not to mention with all the haste we have access to now would mean you could crit like a madman, and with a good tank and timed shatters, and possibly even shrouding potions, could get amazing results on the dps charts.

I just got this trinket yesterday as a Destruction Warlock. Didn't really know how much threat it reduced or anything so I checked it up on wowhead and realised how good this trinket actually is - Especially once you have a high crit rating and much spellhaste.

Even with my crappy stats aggro is often a problem on bosses with aggro resets, but this trinket should surely help alot.
And not to mention how much suffering this trinket will prevent me from getting in heroics and 5-man dungeons with bad tanks.
Also it's pretty kickass for warlocks on AOE groups since Seed of Corruption tends to crit pretty often and this will make you much less likely to die from overaggro.

This trinket is definatelly worth getting. Can't wait to try it out a bit more.

I read in some forum post (no refference I'm affraid) that this trinket's threat reduction values won't get affected as players increased in level towards level 80 in Wrath of the Lich King.

One may argue that the damage output at level 80 is vastly superior to the amount of threat reduced by this trinket; however, with the major changes (maybe even removal) to other threat reduction mechanics in the game (Blessing of Salvation, Tranquil Air Totem, etc.), this trinket might just prove more useful than ever - in the expansion WotLK.

To comment on the Mage thing....I might want it to go to a fire spec mage, as crits that high do aggro a ton, but with a good Mage that can aggro manage, it really shouldn't have to go to a Magi.
