I got this on my fully restoration specced shaman and it kicks serious ass. The 'Use' is an awsome 3 minute cooldown spell that can crit (modified by your own spell crit chance or base 5%?). The animation is a black version of the paladins ranged execute. The spell is not migitated by the targets armor and I have never seen it be resisted.

Bosses are immune, but quite fun to use during PVP!

Shares a cooldown with attack power trinkets, has at least a 40 yard range, and can crit for double damage.
No idea if it checks your crit rating to determine crits.

Rumor had it that spell dmg increased the proc dmg. Sadly spell dmg does not add to the proc dmg, I'm wearing 450 atm and it hasn't hit for over 600 :(
Also I'm still not sure if spell crit helps it at all as im wearing 21% crit and it hasn't crit in about 10-12 throws since i picked it up.

Most end game bosses are immune to the thrown on use ability of this weapon. When one of our guild members asked a gm, their response was, "Bosses are immune to crowd control affects," an obviously false answer. This is unfortunate because not only is the use useless against bosses, it shows at least one gm has no idea what they are talking about.

The damage is effected by BG beserking and Deathwish, I was abe to make it hit for almost 900 by having both up.

This serves as a pretty decent alternative to the tier one blacksmithing onehanders for a variety of classes. Initially, I was inclined to pass to other dps classes because of that.
I shelved my
http://www.wowhead.com/?item=28431
to throw this around for awhile. Deathwish and Enrage do increase the Use ability and 2.1 patch notes include fixing it to do proper damage to bosses/CC immune creatures. The range is 30+ yards or so, outside of intercept/charge range at least and has no deadzone.
I'll hate banking this after I upgrade my blacksmithing axe.

Best item in the game for a warrior pulling mobs !! Instant cast means that warriors don't have to waste their time bow pull. Especially usefull for patrolling mobs that are dangerously close to others and require a quick pull.
So please do your friently neighborhood warrior a favor and let them have ths item !!

You can use the decapitator while charging/intercepting for a quick extra hit as an opener, although I reccomend saving it for if you get rooted or need to stop a rogue from vanishing, or just to get that last ranged hit for a killing blow. Very nice weapon, got mine yesterday.

I am thinking to wield this as a main hand and fel edged battle axe or malchazeen as an off hand.. fury warrior

Using it gives a 10 second cooldown to any +AP trinkets you have equipped.
Also when you use it, you throw an awsome black axe at the target, looks sweet :)
To bad it has a Icy Chill enchant look, hate that :/
Comment by
miqqu
does it have a minimum range?
Comment by
Trikk
The use effect averages out at about 3-4 dps, my average hit is 542 after 310 hits. 3 minute cooldown as mentioned before. Crits cause double damage, and my guess is that the crit chance is about 3-5% (haven't got large enough sample to judge it accurately yet).
Use effect works like a 40 yard ranged attack, no minimum range, with guaranteed hit, only immunity to physical damage.will protect the target. Armor does not mitigate the damage. Can be used in ghost wolf form for you shamans out there.
It flies pretty slow though, and causes 10 sec cooldown on AP trinkets.

Just a note: It's a 41 yard range on the Use ability.

Should I the decapitator or the planar edge?
http://www.wowhead.com/?item=28431
The max damage on planar edge is 13 more because of the extra AP. However the the decapitator gives a little more crit.

The Decapitator is a superb piece of equipment for a Warrior tank to begin pulls with. Here are some reasons:
-The range on the throw is ~40 yards, significantly longer than a ranged weapon's 30 yards.
-The throw effect is instant cast, so no careful timing required for patrols.
-Works great with this 1-press macro to throw decapitator and switch to your tanking weapon:
/equip The Decapitator
/use The Decapitator
/stopcasting
/equip King's Defender

So, if the use is affected by spell crit.... would holding an off-hand with bonus to spell-crit increase the damage done by the use?

I've seen the debate of whether or not this is a good tanking weapon going on in several venues, and in general I think people are missing a key aspect of this weapon. I agree with most of the critics that state this is too slow of a weapon to be a viable tanking weapon. One of the beautiful things however about weapons is that you can swap them out mid fight. In general I swap to the Decapitator on boss fights well after I have a good aggro lead on the party and plenty or rage pooled up. This allows me to increase my devastate dps significantly without costing any of my aggro generation ability.
Sure I am losing some of the pure mitigation that the King's Defender provides but I don't really feel its enough to make a large difference in most fights, and at times you are literally doubling the amount of devastate damage you are putting out over the Defender. So my suggestion is, start with a fast weapon to build rage and initial aggro, then swap to the Decapitator late battle for a dps boost.

This weapon can be dual-wielded after patch 2.3.0
Comment by

Like using the same non-unique trinkets, this will most likely share the cooldown with itself. that is do say if you are dual weilding them, and throw it then the 3 minute cooldown will apply to both.
Comment by
Flintloch
Heres the important question, when you dual wield them, will they cross on yer back the way they do for prince?
Comment by

I went and got a 2nd one and left it in my bank till today, Really awesome running around with two of these.
Only thing I dislike is if you use one they both go onto a 3 minute cooldown.

Is there any other weapon in the game that has a throw ability? I`m a prot pala, as horde i had mana tap but as draenei all i can do is run to the mob and aggro. The boomerang isn`t a viable choice since it can`t be changed after the pull. Thanks in advance. To this weapon, i`m glad it`s there for the throw helps a lot for tanks, palas in particular.

Was disappointed to find out that, when wielding two of these, they share the same cooldown. So even though you have two, you cant use the ability any more often than if you had one.

They should give this weapon a special animation on the victim in BGs and Arena. If the victim reaches 0 HP from the Use effect, the victim should not be ressurectable and maybe have a headless corpse ;).

Has anyone had two of those axes and tryed using both use or if you have two the CD is on both when one is "used" this will prolly get a negative rating though lol just curious :)
Comment by
Rinkotsu
No one has mentioned this but the Decapitator's on use throw does NOT activate GCD. And it also for some reason shares a 30 second cooldown with AP trinkets. It also affects Sweeping Strikes.

It's damage is modified by defensive stance as well, thus making it 450 ish per throw. However, on multi mob pulls, it is a great option to hurl at the secondary target to get over the healing aggro, while slamming happily on the main target.
It is also very nice to use on multi boss pulls (Karathress, Council etc) if you don't have enough MD's. Just chuck one at the boss and it'll come running to ya. The threat will be around 450*1.3*1.15=673 threat for warriors, modified by defensive stance and defiance. Unfortunately, it doesn't deal holy damage, so paladins will only get 500 ish threat, and in LK, both warriors and DKs will get 653 average threat per pull... it may be a moot weapon by then, but it's pulling capacity will make it still useful I believe.
It has never critted for me though, heh.
Another note, that crossed my mind, is that it doesn't seem to get bonuses from one handed specialization etc. Still I'd love to pull Arthas with AXE ON HEAD style :)

This sword is awesome when it's used with the Goblin Rocket Launcher (
http://www.wowhead.com/?item=23836
), the rocket itself does around 1000 to 1700 damage and then this axe does around 600, i've dished out nearly 2000 damage before the mob even touches me =D.

Wanna know before I waste time farming for it, and unfortunately theres no list of things that the Hand-Mounted Pyro Rocket shares a cd with.

Darkmoon Card: Death can proc off this weapons use ability, turning a 500~ish hit into a 2k~ish hit (2.5 if you count the throw). The only downside of it is that you have to wait 30 seconds to throw it after you equip it, stopping it from being extremely useful for pvp and slowing down pulling if you're a tank.
