Required for the Those Are Chitin Words, which is part of the process to obtain the Siesbarg mount.

Best place I have found so far is south Siegehold at 44:30; farming the pair of rares: Rahk'ik and Khak'ik. They are doable as a solo 80 but die quickly in a group of 2-3.

These rares spawn roughly every 1.5 minutes and together they drop 10-13 Nerubian Chitin/Blood. While it may not be the fastest farm, it is mindless and easy.

Platform in Rak-Ahat @ 74,40. Tons of normal mobs, I was getting roughly 4 chitin per pack of 4-6 mobs, decent respawn rate.

Hey all, so it seems blizz nerf'd drop rate and spawn timer on mobs in dorn's "hyper spawn" area in front of the mine.. Earlier today they were dropping at a rate of 600 per hour and now they seem even rarer than before, as I got 30 ish in 15 minutes. The "nonstop" spawns are also clearly no longer working that way... at least near mill and around mine

Ara-Kara, City of Echos follower dungeon. Ideally, three dps players and kill everything before the last boss area and get about 100 per run. The yellow swarmers and the Bloodworkers do drop the chitin, but at a lower rate, it seems. Bosses don't drop the chitin, but if you want the 10 valorstones per boss, then they're a quick kill.

Comment by Shytoos

Fastest way to farm these is to clear the entire area before the first boss in City of Threads (follower dungeon), then leave and repeat.
Once you find out the pathing that works best for you, you can get x70-80 Nerubian Chitins in 6-7 minutes, so about x700/hour.

Repeat this route 19-22 times to complete the quest.

Don't even bother killing the boss, unless you want the x10 Valorstones.

Did this in the Isle of Dorn spot for chances at Crackling Shards.

For 1500 drops, it took me around 4 hours, 3025 kills.

In those 4 hours/3k kills I did get 3 Crackling Shard drops.

Comment by CatLao

Maybe the chance of this drop has improved, but for now I'm receiving 500 of these per hour in the City of Threads (follower dungeon). My main tip is to clear everything before the first boss and restart. Keep repeating for 3 hours and you will get 1,500.

Don't do what I did and buy 1500 Nerubian Chitin thinking you can jump start the quest. I had no clue this quest item shared the same name as a tradable craft item from WOTLK. It seems to be very deceptive way to make gold right now, as I spent 150,000g on them. Granted, it was my fault for not looking at the description or even the item graphic, but it seems like I am not the only one being deceived, at the moment.

Comment by Perilyze

I'm averaging around 70 Nerubian Chitin in 9 minutes clearing everything including the first boss, and then resetting.

Don't be dopey like me and think that these are from skinning, it just drops off the mobs for the person that has the quest.

Thank you to those who suggested follower dungeon City of Threads up to first boss and repeat. On 705 Nerubian Chitin currently. For those who are doing the same just make sure you loot fast! These follower dungeons don’t pull the mobs all in one place and they despawn fairly quickly. I must have lost quite a handful of Nerubian Chitin because I couldn’t get to the defeated mob quick enough to loot them

Comment by Ghimborak

These are dropping at like a 30% rate from the Ruptured Lake area while the daily is up

City of Threads follower dungeon is still the fastest way to farm for this quest. But here in the comments, you'll notice people saying they don't get even half the drop rate that others get. There's reason for this that is simple to solve. All the small blue beetle bodies despawn within about 15-20 seconds, and if you try to round up a bunch of mobs, the followers will kill the beetles behind you while you are killing your rounded-up crowd, and you won't get back to the beetle bodies in time to loot them. By pulling just one group at time, you can loot everything and get a much higher drop rate. I spent a little under 2 hours in City of Threads follower, and I was able to complete the quest. Average around 775 per hour if you loot everything before it despawns.

I was stuck just because I though you had to have skinning. You HAVE to have the quest. These won't drop unless you do. You do not need skinning.

Each Ara-Kara follower run is giving approx 100 per run as of April 17
Full clear to 2nd boss. Leave and reset before 2nd boss.
Rinse and repeat.

data after last 5 :
- 876/1500
- 969/1500
- 1069/1500
- 1166/1500
- 1262/1500

For the avoidance of doubt - in Midnight, ilvl 250ish Rogue, everything in Ara-Kara normal falls over pretty easily, so you can solo it no problem.
