This item seems to be similar to Curious Hide Scraps from Dragonflight. So far I have skinned many random creatures and got this item occasionally from some of them.

Drop rate is way too low. :(

When hitting 100/100 I only had found two of these. I needed an hour of power grinding innocent animals until I had the weekly limit including the epic one...

Each week you get can 5 Toughened Tempest Pelt from skinning/looting normal mobs (not small mobs that just drop grays from skinning) and then your next knowledge drop will be Abyssal Fur then you're done until weekly reset.

You may also randomly get Razor Talon but it is totally RNG and has no weekly limit.

I was hoping that they would buff the droprate of the weekly skinning KP items. It was a slog in Dragonflight and seems to be the same situation in The War Within. It seems to take 40-60 minutes of constant killing/skinning to collect the 5 Toughened Tempest Pelt + Abyssal Fur. I don't know for sure that there is an internal CD before you can collect an additional pelt, but it sure feels like it because I have yet to receive multiple from the same (large) pile of skinned mobs or in quick succession. I have found around 78,77 in Azj-Kahet to be a good spot for farming.

Strangely, I had one of these drop on my DK which is Mining Engineering, and has never been a skinner.

It dropped in a pull including the Ashen Stonestalker in Gemvein Tunnels, for Monsters in the Dark

I could use it, and it granted 1 skinning knowledge (according to chat log) and 5 acuity.

If you are in a position where you are spending an hour+ every week on a skinning alt with 560il, I would recommend waiting for a world quest to pop that involves players killing skinnable mobs and you can knock it out in about 10-15 minutes, depending on how busy it is. My personal favourite is the quest "Thieving Snufflers" in The Ringing Deeps. Cinderbees can be a good alternative but it does rely on groups being active in that area and I have found the world quest strategy to be much more efficient.

Just tested farming this in a WQ where we kill beasts in a small area, as @Celinepeon mentioned, and it seems to be the BEST ADVICE on Skinning (KP) farm: World Quests like Thieving Snufflers are great 'spots' for faster Weekly farm. Small area, fast respawns, and you will be done with the weekly farm faster than trying a bigger area with scattered mobs.

It would be the best that someone made a list of most/all TWW World quests that have 'beast-killing' as at least one of their requirements, in each zone, so we can have alternatives, if one spot is too crouded. Also to mention, spots where people do hard farms (like for cloth or etc) can be another alternative.

Edit 1: Deworming Solution Is another WQ to keep an eye out. Smaller area, with fast respawns of worms, that people might go too. If no one is doing the WQ (so you just focus on skinning around), just kill the worms yourself then skin. There's a cave entrance at around 58.6 36.31 with some more worms to kill, if outside (and doing the farm alone) aren't spawning much more.

EDit 2: Just got the weekly missing 2x of the blue KP and the abyssal fur within 8min of killing then skinning the Battlefront Hauler and Toxic Swarmite NE of Azj-kahet, at the elite area NE of Faerin's Advance. As others have stated, you can get these from 'grey' loot mobs, the smaller adds that both of these elites can summon can give the KP too (DO NOT INTERRUPT THEIR CHANNELING, as it'll summon additional adds). This is currently my fastest farm, of the weekly KP, that is.

These can drop from minis, which are the less healthy monsters that only give Unusable Fragment, so if you haven't got your Abyssal Fur yet this week, remember to not be shy about pulling minis, so you can skin them too.

Abyssal Fur can also drop from minis. Check here to prove it.

It seems, quite a lot even, it seems, perception does make these drop more often. (although I chose perception e.g. for these and such.)

One might want to go and prove me wrong, but the first weeks it seemed like it took more than half an hour of raw farming (especially on my mining toon, who's not just doing content all the time and mining besides) and so now it's roughly less than half an hour, if one's lucky it can be even less than twenty or fifteen minutes!

As it also seems, the drop rate is quite fixed, so if you feel like you don't want to do this besides, you might want to try scorpids in The Rumbling Wastes (that's in the Ringing Deeps), the worms next to them or any such beasts will give you masses of opportunities to skin (one upside there is about these being skin-n-able, since they only give you grey garbage instead of actual skins or scales.) **edit** oops, the scorpids do drop chitin, still they're only at around 1,5M health, so if you get the moles as well, you get leather, scales and trash with an all in all chance for knowledge drops.

Seed farmers could try the farm in Hallowfall, or there's that hole in Ajz'Kahet for other small borers (the big ones are quite good for honed bone shards it seems)

There might be other spots for tiny beasts which will just raise the odds due to being able to kill dozens of them, so this is just one hint along the way.

And to add up, just like I did to some comment: The DF skinning knowledge was a lot more merciless! One would not even get "catchup knowledge past the weekly cap"
So this has seen worse times, it seems...

Great place to farm these if you can't be bothered to form a group for the wolf/bee farm is Arathi's End. The Battlefront Haulers there have a cast called Distress Call which summons a bunch of minor beetles. If you let this channel fully some 5-6 minor enemies are summoned, all of which are skinnable. You won't get any actual leather, just Unusable Fragment, but you get lots of chances for knowledge point drops.
