works like an enchant and gives a buff, the buff name is Smolderon's Delusions of Grandeur
and it reads :
Taking damage has a chance to fill you with Blazing Rage, causing your abilities to deal 8523 additional Fire damage split between nearby enemies for 12 sec and shielding you for the damage dealt.
Damage increased per enemy struck, up to 5.

edit : not sure why this got so many down votes, this is just the tank version of the enchant i saw on ptr at the time ...

Incandescent Essence is a new Helmet-only enchant coming with 10.2 that has an additional combat effect based off your spec (Melee, Ranged, Tank, Heals).
Automatically changes when you change spec. It applies a permanent buff on your buffs bar noting the effect. (if bugged, unequip and reequip helmet to fix)

This item is obtained following a series of quests in the Amirdrassil raid.
It will take several weeks to drop all the components needed to complete it and obtain this reusable enchantment.

Since you can only get 10 max per week when the raid opened, it will be 5 weeks before the cap is at 50 and people will start completing the quest. That will be the week of December 12th (NA) or 13th (EU).

Cool effects wonder if they will give you the opportunity to buy another from a vendor once the quest is done so if you upgrade you helm you don't lose the buff permanently.

How does the enchant changing based on spec work? If I apply it to my helm as ret but go prot to tank a dungeon, will it change to the tank enchant or still be the melee dps one?

yes it "literally says it in the tooltip" but what I was wondering was does it change based on the spec you applied it in or are currently in with it applied. obviously it's late enough to into patch and I've figured it out, but initially was wondering if I could have dps enchant in tank spec.

Hey, the Incandescent Essence (helm enchant) is likely to be disabled on PvP instances.

you can put this on BoEs of any level and send them to alts/trade/list on the AH. it doesnt make the item soulbound. probably a bug, likely will be hotfixed.

Not sure if it is acting as intended. In a ST boss fight, I did 32M dmg but the enchant only did 143K... so 0.3ish%. Hopefully it gets a buff. (Hunter)

The enchant has been doing about 1.6-2% of my damage in raid boss fights and overall damage in mythic plus dungeons on my BM hunter.

For ranged DPS, the buff this gives is Tindral's Fowl Fantasia.

No, it cannot be applied to heirlooms. They thought of that.

The effect of this enchant IS based on helm item level.

I tested this on Melee effect, Igira's Cruel Nightmare...
Expect the other 3 enchants (Tindral's Fowl Fantasia, Smolderon's Delusions of Grandeur, & Larodar's Fiery Reverie) to work similarly when upgrading.

On my 480 helm, the damage was: 134,891 for ST and 107,766 for AoE.
On my 483 helm, the damage was: 141,516 for ST and 112,227 for AoE.

For a difference of 6,625 for Single Target and 4,461 for AoE/Multitarget.

A 4.91%, and 4.14% increase respectively.

it's not consumed on use (as the tooltip says) so you can enchant any helm not to wait for that uber BIS helm ;)

Healer enchant proc test
I could only test in LFR so far. Weirdly it didn't even proc on some boss encounters. When it did it made up ~2-4% of my healing. On some trashpulls it went as high as 5-7%
It's equivalent of a mediocre trinket's proc I guess, but it's free and works with a slot that has no other viable enchants anyway.
Worth getting.
Sidenote on lack of procs: maybe these only proc off of actual healing spells. I tested on mistweaver monk with a fistweaving m+ build. Maybe the few direct heals I had to cast on that particular boss happened to not proc it.

Hotfixed as of 12/13/2023, because Blizzard detected fun and does not like fun. Can no longer be applied to heirlooms, and requires level 70 to be active.

edit: despite the downvotes, this was in fact usable for a day after coming out, and the enchants applied to heirlooms PRIOR to 12/13 still show as active on heirlooms, but now say "requires level 70."

So we have this now but how exactly will this help? I mean it's 1-2% of your overall dmg. I know it's still more then zero, but nothing that will magicly nerf the raid for you...

Tank Result:
480 Protection Paladin

+++13 Blackrook Hold:
Damage Done: 3.8M (2.7%)
Healing Done: 4.76M (15.1%)
Overhealing Done: 87.85M (86.7% of overhealing, our healer only had 55M as MW Monk TOTAL)

+++13 Waycrest Manor:
Damage Done: 3.52M (2.7%)
Healing Done: 7.87M (20%)
Overhealing Done: 0.4M

Small damage increase, decent healing, overhealing can vary a lot depending on gear, pulls etc. I think my overhealing was so high because I had a lot of absorbs already active with avengers shield and trinkets

Does not proc in timewalking dungeons. Based on another comment here, it was apparently hotfixed to require level 70, and I guess that makes it not work in timewalking.

As a note, you cannot use this item on Heirlooms or Blizzard Account Bound helms.

Also worth noting are how the procs look because in my opinion they are quite nice!

-> for the tank proc you get red horns while it is active aswell as a red shield (think power word shield but red)
-> for ranged dps proc you rain down fire owls! 3 to be exact, but how is that not cool? you bombard your target with 3 flaming owls!
-> for healing proc you spawn a reddish? thorn around your target
-> i wasnt able to see the melee proc :(

In case anyone is wondering, it can be used along with Shadowflame-Tempered Armor Patch for crafted headpieces, as it's considered an enchant.

Hello everyone,
my friend came up with a big problem. He probably accidentaly deleted the item for enchanting his head meanwhile clearing his bags. Is there an option how to buy it back or how to restore the item back ? We already went through item restoration but we couldnt find it there. Thanks for any help or hints in advance. Thanks gamers.

Just before Season 4 launches, I did this quest in LFR in under 2 weeks. Much easier now! The bosses drop between 4-5 essences.
