You need to summon a rare near the Pool of Mixed Monstrosities in House of Plagues, south of the Maldraxxus Plague Watch windrider.

How to summon:

Mobs in the area drop glowing objects on the ground after death.
It is not personal loot, everyone can interact with the object.

Viscous Oil drops from Burning Extract & Colossal Plasma (Red slime mobs south of the Pool)
Mephitic Goo drops from Colossal Goo & Prodigious Animate (Blue slime giants south of the Pool)
Miscible Ooze drops from Diseased Remnant & Infectious Monstrosity (Yellow slime giants north of the Pool)
Your objective is to pick up the item and bring it to the pool.

After you bring 30 items to the Pool, it spawns a rare
If you manage to bring the correct combination of ingredients it should summon 1 out of 7 rares for It's In The Mix achievement.
To summon the Violet Mistake you need to preserve the correct combination of elements Blue = Red > Yellow

Hints:

Pull mobs as close as you can to the Pool of Mixed Monstrosities before killing them,
This will reduce the amount of time you have to spend substantially

Most speed buffs work, you can even use mounts and they should speed you up a little bit
If you don't see the items on the ground after kills, complete the questchain in the area

Slime-Covered Reins of the Hulking Deathroc drop from Violet Mistake (not 100% drop rate).
To summon Violet Mistake you need a total of 30 oils on Pool of Mixed Monstrosities in the following proportions:

Viscous Oil = Mephitic Goo > Miscible Ooze. 15/15/0 is the best proportion to summon fast.

Viscous Oil drop from Burning Extract and Colossal Plasma. Around /way 60,0, 76,0
Miscible Ooze drop from Diseased Remnant and Infectious Monstrosity. Around /way 57,8, 65,6
Mephitic Goo drop from Colossal Goo and Prodigious Animate. Around /way 61,2, 79,0

If you move Prodigious Animate the most possible near to Pool of Mixed Monstrosities you can return multiples Mephitic Goo before it despawns.
If you can lucky to kill a mob Carrying Viscous Oil near to Pool of Mixed Monstrosities, you can get 3-4 before it despawns.

If you obtain this mount before Level 60 and it tells you "You cant use this Item", I can confirm that you can only learn it once you hit Level 60.

This may require a bit of coordination and is quite terrible to do if there's other people around, especially if they're from the other faction (even worse in WM). Try whispering people about it so they know how the pool works and forming groups.

Try to focus on the blue ones as they're located further away, since a lot of random people might just grab the reds around and randomly throw them into the pool. If you see either 1, 3, 5 or 7 yellow into the pool, make sure you throw an additional one so the number is even. If there's 9 or more yellow, you won't be able to spawn the correct rare, and if at any point there's more than 15 blue or red, you won't be able either.

Mount isn't 100% drop chance, though I've seen one drop in a party of 3 players. This could be luck but I doubt this is a classic 1% drop chance.

Saw someone in the general chat say they killed the rare 3 times in row and mount dropped. After that I decided to give it a go and after 5 kills on the same character it dropped so it seems at the moment this mount is farmable.

I just got this Item on my lvl 56 Hunter. I am unable to learn it "you can't use that item" even tho it has no level requirement on it.
You probably need to be lvl 60 to learn it, or it might have bugged for me, will update once I hit max level.
Keep this in mind.

Got this mount tonight on my first kill. Some were attempting for hours, some got it after several kills.
Might not have anything to do with it at all but it's interesting to note I was the one who threw in the last goo into the mixer. Hope that's not a factor or it'll be chaos for others.

I've seen this mount drop in as little as two tries and as long as 6 and a half hours. I'm currently 5 and a half hours into farming it. Good freakin luck.

I came upon this event at level 56 while questing. I seen a mob pop up from the pool that was flagged a level 56 rare and I received two blue items from it. I just assumed the mount rare (Violent Mistake) would be the same way so I farmed the 15 red and blue goo myself and spawned him. When it showed up, it was not level 56 or flagged as a rare. The only thing it dropped was Putrid Sludge so I don't know if the person summoning it needs to be level 60 for you to get loot. I get that the mount isn't 100% but the fact it spawned as a normal mob makes me wonder if it's just best to wait.

There might be some sort of pre-req to be eligible to loot from the mob that spawns from the pool. People in general were talking about spawning him so I ran over there. The mob didn't appear as Rare when I targeted him or on my map. Only dropped a grey.

I can confirm that it's definitely farmable. Obtained the mount in ~12 tries. I was level 54 when it dropped for me. I can't use the item to get on the mount so I'm assuming I have to be level 60. The Violet Mistake that I killed did *not* have a rare border around its frame.

Seems the "repeatable farm" has been hotfixed on EU since the server restart this morning. done around 30-35 kills in a 30-40 man grp to see 0 repeated kill drops and only 2 first daily kill drops. before the server reset the mount was dropping for 1-2 ppl every 1-2 kills all repeated kills etc.

Not 100% confirmed.

Looks like its time to do daily kills on every char instead.

Edit: seen alot of ppl farming it on lvl 50s and getting the mount on repeat kills rather than lvl 60s so gonna test this theory out
Edit 2: got it after 10 kills on my lvl 50 hunter that got summoned.

Just got this mount last night. I was not in a raid group, but there were other people around helping. It dropped after about an hour of farming the Violet Mistake mob. The only problem is that I cannot learn it yet until level 60. By the way, you can only see the number of colors in the pool by completing the few quests in the area that teach you about the color changing pools.

Potential hotfix at the time of this comment. 40 man raid saw it drop every 3-4 kills and not just for first timers as people in the raid got it their 3rd, 11th, and 24th kill. Then, an hour long drought until a new person joined and it dropped their first kill.

After Farming this for 6 hours today we had some interesting results.

In the first 4 hours people who had killed the boss multiple times were able to get the mount, although in the last 2 hours only new comers who killed it for the first time today were getting it.

No idea if it was hot fixed or just a coincidence

There seems to be a lot of contention on if it is currently a farmable mount, so I wanted to add my own story.

Today I decided to start farming this on my 60 as there had been talks of it potentially being patched out and no longer a farmable mount. Had around 20 kills and got nothing, but what I noticed during this time was that the only people who got the drop were either 60s getting it on their first try of the day, or lower levels who had multiple attempts that day. I can't actually remember seeing any 60s getting it after multiple attempts, but I'd love to hear if anyone did outside of our groups. It sounds like absolute nonsense to even suggest this, because it doesn't sound like something done intentionally. It could be a wild coincidence, or a soon-to-be-patched bug, but it felt like sub level 60s either had a higher drop chance, or they were the only ones able to farm it multiple times a day.

I talked with a few others from other groups who also noticed this pattern. When I was on my 60, a 50 joined the group and was summoned in and mentioned observing the same thing (as in he brought it up unprovoked, not joining our discussion), and so they had come on to attempt it on that char. They got it after 3 attempts. After seeing this I jumped on a 50 alt, joined a group and got summoned and got it on the 7th attempt. Again in that group the only times I saw it drop for others, were 2 60s that turned up and got it first go.

Either way it looks like I've got a druid to level so I can use it, as despite there not being any mention of this being locked behind a level requirement, it appears you need to be 60 in order to add it to your collection.

Edit: I heard from someone who had it drop on their 20th attempt that day on a level 60, so all of these things with lower levels may be entirely coincidental.

After about 2 hours of farming this mount with a raid group I and 3 others got it. Some had been farming for 6 hours others got it on their first drop. As of this moment, it can be farmed.

Yesterday i did 40/50 trys, got nothing (some people got it on their Xht attempt of the day on the same char, but it was mostly newcomers who got the mount). Today i got it on my first try, so i highly recomend to dont bother farming this mount several times a day, just kill the mob 1 time per day and go do something else. It's not worth the time and effort, you will eventually get it as it look like it has increased drop the first try of the day.

Obtained the mount after my first kill of The Violet Mistake. I was level 60, and was able to use it immediately. I was in a group of more than 35+ people, and it only dropped for me.

Dropped this on a level 55 character as a random raid group spawned it while I was passing through questing, so can also confirm it drops below level 60.

However you can't learn it until 60, like the Arboreal Gulper :(

Quick edit: I was on an EU realm, nobody mentioned anything about the farming being hotfixed either. It definitely seems to still be farmable at least for the time being.

I can confirm that it is still currently, as of right now, a farmable mount. I literally just now got it to drop after about 15-20ish kills in around 2 or so hours of farming this mob in a raid group. Out of all the people who got it, most reported first kill. Only one other besides myself got it on multi-kill. So, I think first kill has a higher drop rate, but it -is- obtainable from multi-kills.

Can confirm this is still farmable, at least to some regard (US servers). I farmed this for about 20 kills on my 60 and decided to switch over to my 56. It dropped on my 9th kill. Unsure if it makes any difference being pre-60 but it worked for me. Good luck out there

71 kills on my level 60 hunter, farming it on custom groups. Then I did it on my mage(lvl51) 2 times on first kill of the day (2 different days). Then I come with my paladin, fresh 52 arrived in Maldraxxus, done the 3-jellies quest and tagging a custom group : First try. 74 TOTAL tries

I HIGHLY suggest you to farm once a day with different chars. It really seems to have better drop.

I just had it drop for my alt after my second try today. First try was in a raidgroup and the second time was after leaving the group and seeing it spawn on my own realm. I have farmed it on my main for a couple hours so i guess i have killed it in total around 30 times.

So for those out there still farming it is out there!

I was hanging around and we did all the diff critters for the achievement. I was under the impression u could only try for the mount 1 time a day. I came back the next day (i knew a LOT more about what to do.) Someone said u didn't need pre=quests to do it ..u do. I couldn't see the barrels or how many colors were up until I did the 2 that are right THERE. Lastly, I went back yesterday, had a really good group that listened. After a LOT of people insisted u could have more than one chance a day, I hung around and we did like 10 plus a crap ton of messed up ones because it was apparently a wq or something. NADA. So I was going to the Inn to park her. Scrolling thru postmaster stuff ....2 pages of *trash guts* .then BAM there he was in all his glory. Cant use it for a couple of lvls but YAY. Make sure u check ur mail.

Does anyone else find the footstep sounds way off? Almost sounds more like a weird drum beat. Definitely doesn't match the animation in any way.

I got this mount to drop for me on a level 51 Bastion character after about 30+ kills total. It was my first kill of the day with an alt that had just chosen the Thread of Fate option. I can't learn it, so it's going to sit in my bag for another 9 levels.

I started putting in purple goo, and there was already red goo in there so another guy helped by putting in more of the same, and we got Violet Mistake to spawn, and out of the 2 of us, I got the mount, so happy :) my first time trying to get it :) Dec.10th, 2020.

Armored Bonehoof Tauralus - This can be bought from the Necrolord Renown Vendor OR rarely looted from the indariver as I was halfway through the list of mounts and found their comments which helped me finish up the other half of the list. :)

I've been farming this mount since launch on my main and nada.

Login to my lvl 51 & see Violet Mistake happen to spawn nearby, so I tag him.

It drops - I can't use it until I'm lvl 60.

It's infuriating to farm while the Mixing A Mess WQ is up, randoms don't listen and you'll likely have every other try messed up, raid group or not. Rather wait for the WQ to expire.

So a lot of the mounts in Shadowlands seem to be only able to be gotten by the covenant of the region such as the Hopecrusher mount and the Tahonta mount. This mount doesn't appear to be the same and anyone can get it right?

can confirm: on 16.05.21 it still drops even when you kill Violet Mistake more than once per day. Farmed it with 20ppl raid. And our leader got it after ~15 kills.

This has been a lucky week for me concerning Maldraxxus mounts. My Ret Paladin got the Battle Bound Warhound from Ti'or the Dark Narru, my Arms Warrior got an Oozing Necroray Egg from a Tribute of the Duty Bound cache, and my Frost DK just got this drop from the Violet Mistake (first time kill).

Dropped today for me after 20ish attempts. I got tired of other ppl throwing in random slimes on purpose and just started doing it by myself late at night/early morning. I just killed all the yellow guys in the area to get the mephitic ones to spawn, easiest way is to pull them as close to the pool as you can so you get more slime before it disappears. While waiting for the spawns I got rid of the green slimes to pass the time. I started going after the mephitic first in case someone else was working on a quest in the area and throwing in red.

I got this to drop but only way I was able to spawn Violet Mistake was by doing it solo in war mode in a low pop RP realm. Time consuming to do alone but done with now.
