Just in case anyone was wondering.

If you save up all the rare fish you collected while trying to get your Underlight Angler, like me, don't it won't work. The text is not changed once you get the Underlight Angler.

It still says:

Use: Toss the fish back into the water, increasing Fishing skill by 5, up to a max of 800.

Only new rare fish will say:

Use: Toss the fish back into the water, granting 50 Artifact Power to your fishing artifact.

The Funky Sea Snail may attract a drogbar which has a chance to drop the Salmon Lure which then gives you a chance to catch the Ancient Highmountain Salmon...Good Luck Everyone:)

The quick answer: to get this rare fish your must first have the Underlight Angler, secondly fish up a Funky Sea Snail, thirdly after 2- minutes kill the Bitestone Fishbrul drogbar that attacks you and who drops the Salmon Lure bait item which will give you a 5-minute buff to fish up this Ancient Highmountain Salmon that gives a 50-artifact boost when tossed back.

NB: there are TWO versions of this fish! The Ancient Highmountain Salmon version caught before you got your Underlight Angler which only give a +5-skill points up for fishing, and this page's Ancient Highmountain Salmon version caught after you get your artifact rod. The older fish do not change to the newer fish, so the lesson is DON'T KEEP YOUR OLD FISH.

The longer answer: the Ancient Highmountain Salmon is a rare fish in Legion. Here is how it is obtained: The Funky Sea Snail 2-minute buff comes from obtaining a Funky Sea Snail which is fished up using a Arcane Lure when fishing in pools in Legion's Highmountain zone. At the end of the buff Bitestone Fishbrul shows up and attacks. Killing Bitestone Fishbrul will drop a Salmon Lure bait item. The Salmon Lure bait when used will trigger the Salmon Lure spell which will give a fisherman a 5-minute buff that will fish up Ancient Highmountain Salmon which in turn will advance the Bigger Fish to Fry achievement, required to obtain the Underlight Angler, and possibly also the A Cast Above the Rest achievement if this was the first rare fished up. When tossed back, the Ancient Highmountain Salmon would grant a fisherman a +5 skill up for fishing. Otherwise it would fish up another version of the fish: this page's Ancient Highmountain Salmon will grant a 50 artifact boost to a Underlight Angler fishing artifact rod. The version of the fish caught: Ancient Highmountain Salmon or Ancient Highmountain Salmon depends on whether it is caught before or after one has obtained the Underlight Angler fishing artifact rod.

Post 8.0, throwing this fish back does work for skill in Legion (though you probably have 100 already), but does not work for any other level of fishing, whether thrown back in Legion areas or in those original zones - I tested it so you don't have to.
