I remember when the Cenarion War mount was released, I was real excited for there to be a pink version like the hippogryphs in Feralas. Thanks Blizzard, 9 years later. :')

"Long forgotten" is definitely accurate!

This hippogryph model boasts one of two skins left over from datamining all the way back in patch 2.3 that went unreleased this whole time.

(For reference, patch 2.3 was back in November 2007.)

I hate to be that guy, but are they really going to push another polygon model on us when they have that BEAUTIFULLY updated one from recruit a friend? It's like the timewalking dragonhawk with an old model. I get it, kind of, that they already had these sitting around so it's easier to just release them as is than to update/remake them. It just makes me sad; this would look so good updated.

well as mount hunter i prefer to camp a new mount instead grind killing some example: world bosses for a mount with hope i will get it one day.... years of killing them still no luck make me sad and flustrated at the same time :(
and ...The " personal loot " really ? what is that personal come from and how is this really work for me ? BLizzard can you please fix my personal drop mount rate ? some ppl geting world boss mount in 1st -3th kill and some after 200 still nothink ? . where is the justice in that "PERSONAL" crap loot :/

I am so happy to say that this Hippogryph will finally be available as an in game mount in the upcoming Legion Expansion. I have been drooling over this Hippogryph in Feathermoon for many years, and now my wish will finally come true.

This may or may not hint at it or mean nothing to anyone but when you click the "show mounts obtainable by quests" this mount shows up...
My guess it's a egg in Azsuna hidden or somewhere alike the white murlock egg (Terky)
It could be hidden in a cave anywhere as a quest of some sort a lucky few will find.
This could potentially be another void talon as well, a portal around only Aszuna. A hippogrphy lost in time that you have to free in that portal.

So maybe there is a item we interact with that summons him or her.

So assuming it's an item for sure or some sort of void talon portal, maybe it wont spawn till tuesday? Or it's hidden good.
I did in fact see an island south east of Faronaar that was not marked on the map at all, perhaps that's where it gets it's term lost-forgotten. Also as a quick note there is a crashed darnassian ship, ruins, and a weird mountain I will investigate further tommorow on my hunter...

But problem is we are back at the beginning and searching, Now we need clues so perhaps in order to get this hippogryph to spawn their is another clue... But we are missing it

Awesome work to the people who found it and people who have been looking! the code is broken, I'll begin looking for new coordinate spawns, they will be going on a different post. I'm going to leave this one here for memories. In the mean time, Happy hunting!

So I've been going around investigating Azuna for this, found a couple of interesting things but so far it's still all speculation.

First up - Forever Rise, on the cliffs overlooking Oceanus Cove at the south of Azuna's mainland, where an Eternal Groom and Eternal Bride stand, with a Jilted Former Lover hiding out in a nearby cave. What I find peculiar is how the Jilted former lover is friendly until you stand close to it and says "You! Yesssss! With that power in my hands, I can get him back." upon attacking. I've tried luring them all together to trigger an event, but no luck yet.

Second - Rhut'Van Divide, a path leads up from the north of Nor'Danil Wellspring (A place filled with night elf ghosts), to what appears to be a Hippogryph breeding grounds. First thing you'll notice is a stone circle clearing on the way up, I believe a bit too direct for something to spawn there, but a perfect location to summon the Long-Forgotten Hippogryph rare with an item (Such as an injured hatchling or an egg?). Further up the path, before the night elf structure, there are two Bloodthirsty Fox's staring at a tree (The only types of this mob in the game.) and the tree is the perfect angle to walk up. My theory for this area is a Hippogryph hatchling, nest or egg will appear on a very long timer that you can use to summon the rare. Also, behind the stone circle clearing on the cliffside there is a dead tree, if you carefully scale down to it there is a cave with two Hippogryph's and a large amount of bones, including two gnome skeleton's and a night elf skeleton at the entrance.

Third - Old Coast Path, just south of Illidari Strand at a broken bridge, there is a male night elf skeleton that can be highlighted as "Mysterious Skeleton" at the beach below and Hippogryph's nesting above, and as they had humanoid skeletons in the cave at Rhut'van, it is possible this relates to the Long-Forgotten Hippogryph. There is also an elven shipwreck close to the body that you can enter the remaining front portion of the hull. (However, as there is a barrel close to the skeleton which I hear is for a proffesion quest, it is possible this skeleton has nothing to do with the Long-Forgotten Hippogryph.)

I think the most likely one is Rhut'Van, as the Nor'Danil Wellspring below is filled with undead elfs right next to the Hippoygryph breeding grounds, where they would most likely tame them. Hence how this one is now Long-Forgotten as their tamer would have died.

I have found another odd place which may or may not have anything to do with this mount, if anything I am making this comment if anyone can clear up if its a profession quest or even just a quest I missed doing myself.

I was looking around for places where the egg could possibly spawn so I was trying to climb a tree south under the cliffs of the Nor'danil Wellspring and I fell into a very well hidden cave by accident, inside the cave there is also a rather odd looking shrine which looks like something can either spawn there, or is linked to another quest, can somebody else check this out too? or confirm that this is just a class quest or profession quest? thanks.

Im trying to wrap my head around how we can find this mount. And i wanted to share my thoughts with you all in hope we can all find something together.

1. When you look at the mount in mount tab it only says "Zone: Azsuna", not like TLPD which says "Drop: Time-Lost Proto-Drake and Zone: The Storm Peaks". Same goes for Aeonaxx. And Voidtalon says "Drop: Voidtalon Egg".

So to me it doesnt look like a drop, even tho there is the Long-Forgotten Hippogryph. Aswell as a trigger to most likely summon it Summon Long-Forgotten Hippogryph. Is there any other way to obtain it even when summoning it and not kill/loot it?

2. Could it be that a toy can trigger it? Or an item that can drop from mobs around Azsuna to summon it. As we have camped for rare mounts in the past, recently we have had to go through other events to obain the newer rares. Such as farming sky crystals for Alani. And entering a scenario for Voidtalon. Either its right in front our noses or its completely out of the box. No one has found any clues about this mount on alpha, beta or live, yet. So there might be more to it. One would think so since no one has found anything.

3. Could it be someplace you have to be and do some funny emotes? There was the toy obtained in your garrison where you had to emote a certain follower. Yup, im lost now. But it makes me wonder...

4. A rare friendly NPC from Cenarion Expedition or another faction spawns and you talk to him to summon it.

5. A rare item is on the floor or anywhere and you summon it by clicking it.

6. I have noticed that you can walk up in most trees in Azsuna maybe there is something to find in them?

When you think about ways of obtaining it yourselves individually. Think about the description of all other mounts in the mount tab. They all have detailed information of where to obtain it. This might not have anything to do with it at all, and its blizzard trying to keep it a secret/hidden for everyone. But i doubt they will change the description of the mount in the future.

Apologies for the long post, and my silly theory's but i hope maybe it will give someone a clue.

something odd i found while checking the mount journal is when i filtered vendor mounts it showed the long-forgotten hippogryph as a vendor mount.
perhaps its a interactable rare to get the mount from?

I've seen here a lot of secrets in Azsuna. Most of them are class or profession quests. But can you help me with this? And if it's not a part of some quest, we must investigate.

Llothien owl

This Llothien owl sits on crossroads just up from Azurewing Repose. There's a lot of these owls around in Azsuna, many sit on some lanterns or trees. There are some owls that are triggered when you come around. They fly away, disturbed by your appearance. BUT this particular owl.... she follows you when triggered. She makes a hoot and then follows you anywhere you're heading for 30 secs. Then she just gone.
Also I'm sure there's only one owl that doing such thing. And the only one who sits on a column. And the column where she sits. It's only one of that kind that's undamaged(i checked myself).

My guess that she's someone else, disguised as owl, trying to get my attention and get help from me.
At last, I guess all this search of Long-Forgotten Hippogryph isn't about hunting and camping and killing. It's about rescuing the pink one from the trouble.

Little update: Even if in fact this has to do with mount, there still must be some extra-rare element to it. Maybe some potion or scroll rare enough to make it another grey camel. But it may not even be in Azsuna. My obvious bet is Suramar. Lots of lost\forgotten things tied to it.

My feelings when reading "you are the only one that remembered" suggests that it's trapped rather than a rare spawn or something to be released from an egg that's a rare spawn.

I also think it may be a reference to that LK Murloc in the hidden cave underwater in Borean Tundra that was hidden by greenery. I'm going around underwater looking, but it's slow- a lot of effort went into the seabed.

If "remembered" is a key word here, what comes to mind first is the quest Those Who Remember which is also in Azsuna.
"Remember" could of course refer to memory. The toy Mr. Smite's Brass Compass has the description "Release the memories of a long-lost first mate". Long-lost as in long-forgotten? :)

The buff this toy puts on you, Memory of Mr. Smite, reads "Remembering..." if you mouseover it. This of course refers to Mr. Smite, a boss from the Deadmines dungeon before it was remade in Cataclysm. Mr. Smite's description says "The ship's first mate". In Azsuna, there is an npc, First Mate Oxswain, located on a ship.

Another thing I'm thinking about that could be a clue is the toy Syxsehnz Rod. Probably meaning "sixth-sense rod". Maybe this toy can be used to interact with some otherwise hidden/dead npc/hippogryph?

I have a suspicion that it is connected to Shandris Feathermoon. In one of the novels, Tyrande borrows Shandris hippogryph to fly to Auberdine. While there somethings happens and the mount ends up succumbing to the nightmare and is never mentioned again. It is entirely possible that whatever series of events end in us being able to acquire the mount in Azsuna start somewhere else.

Ok guys I dunno if this is anything or will be anything but It's so obscure it's unreal. I was swimming around Azsuna and decided to also visit the island for the Eye of Azshara. Whether or not it counts as a part of Azsuna I have no clue.

Anyway I figured based on everyones comments here I'd be looking for a sunken ship of some sorts. Well... I found one (at this location: https://gyazo.com/e86670e892d625c5a45d0880e2a212c7). Of course there are many in the sea but this one is unique because it has a small opening you can crawl through. (Right here: https://gyazo.com/336b884d5c0a26f20941c801209bb0b7).

I went through this little crawlspace and made my way through the boat (Swimming up over this platform: https://gyazo.com/e38d3070666a0d1041416a5b34fa593b, then through this hole and down into the lower part of the boat: https://gyazo.com/70617c91fa7473bcaf32c73b8a0531de).

I noticed that there is actually one more gap in the boat on the side in this lower portion (here: https://gyazo.com/52c80b781570e2a860582463448cb08e). I went through this and much to my surprise there is actually a cave here...

I'm skeptical to whether or not this will actually be a location for the mount but it was one hell of an exciting find! (sorry for all the images but I felt visual = better).

I think I might have found a big clue that could definitely have a chance to be linked to this mount, if anyone has seen the post I made a couple of days ago with the weird shrine I found in the cave ( which was also as well hidden as the one the previous poster 'Zabianyt' found ( the one in the ship ) you can see there is a redish-like Orb at the side of the shrine, in this same cave I went to check out (thanks Zabianyt) there is also a red orb inside, this is certainly not a coincidence and now I really do believe that this mount has something to do with interacting with these orbs somehow!

I am guessing now that we need some sort of item or toy to interact with these orbs somehow, also the quest we could find to get this mount might also have something to do with finding these orbs ( if it is even a questline )

Update: while swimming through the ship to the underwater cave you also come across 2 gnome skeletons, and in the other cave ( the one with the shrine ) there is what appears to be an orc skeleton, not sure if this is another clue but it seems like it, are they hinting that the skeletons are 'long-forgotten'?

Leading on from iCoffeeMan finding the purple orbs I found one a little while back at 53,26 in Llothien there is a lot of rocks and roots around the bottom of the tree and a small opening which leads down into a cave, the tree is just off the path http://imgur.com/M5zCTKy

While searching the hippogryph breeding grounds in Rhut'Van Divide, I fell off the cliff and rez'd in Challiane's Terrace.

Adding on to iCoffeeMan's orb theory, and that I haven't see this mentioned yet, but there is in fact another hidden cave I discovered awhile ago.

It's up in the Ley-Ruins of Zarkhenar. To get there hop down into the purple crystal area and follow the rift northeast until you hit the Unbound Rift rare. Just before the rare is a large brown bush and concealed behind that is an interesting crystal cave.

I've visited here various times as it's a cool secluded hideaway, but scoured the place and found nothing else of interest. There's a broken table, some chests and a skeleton; along with the orb, which until now I didn't take much note of.

Whether the orbs do something or not, these secret caves are very suspicious. After all Blizz did take the time to make them, hide them extremely well and put a purple-red orb in each of them. Either way, the plot thickens!

I was exploring Seabreak Isle in Azsuna (coord: 20 20), there is bunch of hostile lvl 110 elite murlocks (killed one and drop around 4g), there is also few friendly NPC in cages (murlock Spurt, penguin Slushy, Nanook) locked by murlocks.
There is also hostile mob hanging called Weird Beard (he cant attack back, i killed him and didnt notice anything strange). Also there is bunch of Salty Seagulls, and mob name Salty (to me looks like an eagle, sitting in nest on top of the pillar, i tried to kill Salty, by gliding from Azsuna, but mob knockback me from the pillar).
Murlocks and 1 huge Murlock (holding somekind of axe/mace) are guarding somekind of treasure/big pearl (same pearl can be found underwater at Azsuna 34.2 16.2) in upper part of the isle (shipwreck).

Near by there is also somekind of eggs (6 of them, i assume baby murlocks), when u mouse hover over them it says "Pristine Squigglefin Egg".

There is a hippogryph nest with broken eggs in it over by the Eternal bride rare, (48.55, 56.60) I wonder if being by the "Eternal" bride, if it has anything to do with this mount.

So the Lost Orchard is becoming my favorite tie for this mysterious creature. The ghosts scream "We remember the queen". That could be a clue not to look there, but it could also mean that while they remember the queen, they forgot our pink friend.

I don't know if could be a coincidence that the ghost hippogryph flightpaths are pink colored, wine stains pink, the magic that the ghosts use is pink, AND they are corrupting the hippogryphs. Why are they messing with the hippogryph eggs anyways? And why did the orchard have so many hippogryphs around? Maybe they were creating royal pink hippogryphs for the queen. The male elf near the flightpath sure seems like he wants to seem worthy of her respect. In any case, the pink hippogryphs might be a sign of royalty or status much like wine.

I know that the pink hippogryph is just an old model, but I'm not sure they added a winery riddled with hippogryphs and pink magic as a coincidence. Unfortunately while it could be tied to the orchard, It could be anywhere by now.

I've been looting the casks around the orchard because they seem suspect. Is their only purpose to let us kill some oozes? Probably. But what if something else is inside...

To add on to the "orb caves" theory - I've had something of a breakthrough.

On the Broken Shore, you can find Drak'Thul's camp. There's a little easter egg here where you can go to a cave on the coast and then find a relic that you give to him. He talks about how the spirits abandoned him but when giving him the relic he starts acting strangely and then speaks in the Old God tongue for a bit. Then he tells you to go away and that's his dialogue exhausted. This is all on his wowhead page, so check there for coords etc.

Something I noticed is that he has a similar orb on his table - same size and colour as the ones in the Azsuna caves.

After exhausting his dialogue, I went to the hidden cave just south of the Nor'Danil Wellspring (the one covered by a bush next to a tree just next to the road). In there, the purple orb was now clickable and was called "Hungering Orb". Clicking on it had my character channel in to it for a few moments with the cast bar saying "Attuning". After that, the orb started to glow brightly for a few seconds.

Unfortunately, my internet then dropped. When I logged back in it was normal again. I went to two of the other caves people had found (the two that weren't the underwater ship - I'll check there soon) but the orbs weren't interact-able, and I went back to Drak'Thul and he had no new dialogue options either.

So the mystery continues. Due to the Old God dialogue and it being called 'Hungering Orb', I thought it might be for a Shadow Priest artifact skin, but their hidden one is a drop in EN so it's definitely not that (plus I'm a DH so I doubt I'd be able to do any part of another class's artifact chain). Something is up, though.

EDIT: Also I should note, my brother did the Drak'Thul dialogue together with me, and then he went to the same cave I'd 'attuned' at just after I disconnected and he could not interact with the orb. Very strange.

EDIT2: The orb in the underwater cave near EoA is not clickable either. harryharland found 9 Hungering Orbs in the database, which leads me to wildly theorize that you either need to activate them in a certain order (the next being one that's still not been found), I just messed up somewhere (maybe my internet cutting out had something to do with it), or you have to do something else next before attuning to the others. These are definitely the correct orbs as well, as if you click 'Same Model as', the other shared models are the same purpley red orbs. They're also tagged as 'Quest', for what that's worth.

EDIT3: Went and did the Drak'Thul stuff on my alt and then went over to Azsuna. Visited the known orbs and none were clickable except the one in the Nor'Danil cave that I could click on my main, so that's definitely the one (perhaps the first) that you need to attune to...for whatever purpose.

Testing what Kellathon said with the orbs I was able to click the one with the fountain (37,35 ish) and the orb lite up for a couple seconds and then went back to normal, it is now unable to be interacted with, checked the other cave off the path and cannot interact with that one either. I wonder if it is either a sequence to do or you need people at each place (9 hungering orbs according to wowhead found by harryharland) to click the orbs in a sequence/ at the same time.

Okay, this might be a big thing:

I have found one of these mysterous orbs in Auberdine! Shandris Hyppogryph died there (read the books :) ). Maybe this could be an answer to "you are the only one that remembered".

But what is different with this orb? It is channeling a lightning to a mob named Aetherion.

And according so wowpedia Shandris hippogryph Jai'alator was taken by the deep sleep of the Nightmare.
The name "Jai'alator" translates to "Noble blade of Elune"

UPDATE: no longer linked to the Long-forgotten Hippogryph mount, instead enables you to attune to the first orb which begins the chain-sequence to summon Kosumoth the Hungering

To everyone interested in finding this mount I suggest you read Kellathon's comment about the whereabouts to this cave, and find yourself the relic inside, the relic itself even hints of it being "worn down for years"

The dialogue also suggests hints from what Drak'thul says: "I have learned many things on my years on these islands. I have delved into places I wish I had not, and learned things I long to forget "

If this isn't a hint at the Long-Forgotten Hippogryph then I don't know what is, all I am certain of now is that were are getting closer and closer to finding
it.

Our next step could be trying to find the location of all the orbs

To the other orb hunters, I recommend you stock up on the Alchemy-crafted drink 'Skagglydryk' there is a quest in the alchemy profession chain where you have to open a door which is closed because it is sealed by a magic rune, you can only break and see this seal when you are under the effects of this potion, I am sure I have seen a few buildings while I was levelling which I could not enter, one is actually just a little bit south I believe for the coordinates of this orb, if you jump down the cliff along the river you will see it (east side of the river):

I could not enter this building this way so I still don't know why it's there, but there could be more buildings which have suspiciously closed doors and could be enter-able under the affects of this potion like the one during the alchemy quest.

It's a long shot but it's worth a try, with how hard its been to find everything so far I wouldn't disregard it as a possibility.

Both it and the Unbroken Hippogryph Egg seem to be quest items of some kind, though you can only tell the Unbroken Hippogryph Egg is a quest item by searching "hippogryph" and looking to the right to see where it says 'quest item.'

I don't think it's an accident that you can climb up practically every tree in Azsuna. I think that it's likely to be a tiny egg or item resting somewhere in a hard reach treetop. Too bad there's hundreds of trees.

So, with the reveal of Kosumoth, there are currently 0 leads for this thing? I really felt like that Hippogryph cave on the side of the mountain was gonna lead to something but it seems like nothing. I get the feeling that the name/description are a major hint but I have no idea what we are supposed to be remembering

Has anyone tried using the Panflute of pandaria to lure all of the Cliffwing Hatchlings in the zone to certain areas?
They dont seem to respawn while following you, and they're green instead of yellow like most critters are, which makes me think there's something to them
As far as I've found, there are 26 of the hatchlings throughout the zone, although I am most likely missing some.

Great. The orbs are bugged for me. I can't click the orb in Val'sharah behind the elemental. I have been to all the other orbs to check so that I can't click them either, and I can't! I have also been to the two I had already clicked on, but nothing. Why is this happening to me? :(

Yes, I know I have to click them in the right order. I didn't know about the cooldown after someone else had used it, but now I am a very happy owner of the mount! Really glad Blizzard created this adventure for us. I just wish I was the one figuring it all out ;)

I went to look if there could be any clues in Feralas, mainly looking at The 'Forgotten-coast' and I came across this stone circle outside the Feathermoon Stronghold, it looks somewhat familiar to the one found in Azsuna at the top of the mountain where all the Hippogryphs are.

Above this location there is also an npc flying around on the same model to the Long-Forgotten Hippogryph.

Here are the notes and pieces of lore based clues I have found thus far;

If you read the description of the TCG Hippogryph Hatchling added in patch 2.0 it says: "After a harpy incursion in Feralas, several Hippogryph nesting grounds were attacked. Hundreds of hatchlings were orphaned, and they have been entrusted to the care of the druids on Sardor Isle."

Now when we look at this in-game, Sardor Isle is the small island off of the coast from Feathermoon Stronghold, previously the original location of Feathermoon Stronghold, before cataclysm sunk The Isle of Dread.

Further to this, should you take a Hippogryph from the Flightmaster at Feathermoon, you will be mounted on the same model file as The Long-Forgotten Hippogryph, this lends credence to the idea that the Long Forgotton Hippogryph is a Hippogryph from this area. In addition, there are wild (but Friendly A H) Frayfeather Hippogryphs in southern Feralas whom have the same model except unarmored.

Now what bearing this has specifically on finding the mount, I'm not sure but I felt it was an interesting series of Lore. For a bit of an added stretch you could look at the fact there are no Harpies within Azsuna, or you could make the assumption that the mount is actually Jai'Alator whom was Shandris Feathermoons steed - entrusted to Tyrande and lost to the Emerald Nightmare when Auberdine fell under attack.

User lingongrova here on wowhead discovered the copied Zone of Feralas addes in Legion.
Why would you add an instanced version of this area? Because you can trigger it for the mount maybe?

Warning - this is probably gonna be a long post. I'm not normally a mount hunting sort of person, but this one has my attention, and I think a lot of the reason for that is the mystery surrounding it... So I'm going to chronicle my journey in search of this mount to help out the others who have posted what they've been doing to search for this beautiful creature.

For some reason, my first instinct was Nar'thalas Academy, due to its similarity to Harry Potter, which has hippogryphs in it. One important hippogryph is called Buckbeak or Witherwings, who is sentenced to be executed but is saved by someone or other and later comes into possession of the titular character. Buckbeak's nickname Witherwings instantly caught my attention due to the Withered being present in Aszuna. I searched wowhead for "wither" and "buckbeak" to see if there were any hippogryph NPCs that had a similar name to the Harry Potter character, but couldn't find anything. I then went to Nar'thalas Academy and wandered around a bit, inspecting all the bookshelves and using some Skaggldrynks but to no avail. I also ran around for a while doing /bow at a few various hippogryph NPCs, because I remembered that in the Harry Potter universe, you're meant to bow before a hippogryph and maintain eye contact, because they are very proud and if you offend one it will try to kill you - you have to bow before them and wait for them to make the first move (I thought this might be what you remembered). Buckbeak was actually sentenced to death for attacking someone who didn't bow before him.

Considering myself having hit a dead end with the Harry Potter trail I simply searched "hippogryph" on wowhead to see what popped up. Mentioned above by Sveltanie was the with the description "Something moves inside.", which also I want to note has a pink icon - the icon itself is named inv_pet_pinkmurlocegg. Another egg is Cliffwing Hippogryph Egg, which is the objective of the world quest A Cleansing Cocktail. One borderline tinfoil theory is that the Unbroken Hippogryph Egg is a super rare drop from this world quest. Speaking of world quests, one of the artifact power world quest rewards is called Hippogryph Plumage, if that has any significance... which it probably doesn't.

While I was looking this up I was searching for the cave with the sleeping hippogryphs mentioned by Keedori and located by Fallenblossom. I did eventually find it and /bowed to both hippogryphs, then went to /sleep with them while writing this, but on my way there I got lost and found a treasure chest, inside of which I found Shandris's Fingerless Gloves, the original owner of which as I'm sure anyone reading these comments by now knows had a pink hippogryph. Immediately I searched Shandris on wowhead to see if I could find anything interesting, and realised that she's an NPC at my own class hall (Hunter), but also interestingly she has two entries that are not listed with a location but were added in 7.0.3; Shandris Feathermoon and Shandris Feathermoon. I have a suspicion this might be tied into the strange Feralas zone that zackyy221 mentioned.

Also interestingly is the description of the gloves; "Xalan's gloves looked better on her than on him." which is a reference to the satyr Xalan who was defeated by the night elves during the War of the Satyr, I don't think that bit really matters. What is interesting is that these gloves are in the game - they're a legendary for Priests Xalan the Feared's Clench. But, I don't really know what to make of this. I don't think Blizzard would make it so that only Priests or only Hunters could get this mount...

Some Brainstorming/Notes:
Just south of Nor'danil Wellspring was one of those owls mentioned by harryharland that you're meant to follow, but it was too fast for me to keep up with and I lost track of it - I plan to try to follow it with an Eagle Feather.
"Timeworn Strand" is right below the sleeping hippogryph cave, Holinka is in a cage here with two dogs. I don't think the hippogryph will be tied to any underwater stuff - but then again, I remember an odd underwater formation sort of thing off the coast of Feralas, which I'll go and check out at some point.
Could be tied to the books. Maybe Shandris is told to remember something, or something like that.
Might be related to Vault of the Wardens.
Might be related to an old quest or NPC dialogue.

I went to the top of the mountain where the hippogryphs are flying around and took a glider straight west to an island that is kinda off map. The glider actually lands on it perfectly. It is infested with high health murlocs that i couldn't quite solo on my own. There is a big murloc at the top guarding a giant pearl with treasure all around it. I stealthed around the treasure and nothing lit up but maybe the big guy might drop an item? I don't know. Maybe some people can get a group together for it and take it down.the Island is called Seabreak Isle. Once you are there it technically counts as Aszuna which was odd

When the summon was done yesterday, it made me investigate who it was and how it was done which led me to this discussion.

I've been hooked on the mystery of the Reins now and I went to Azsura to explore. I went south of the cave of the Sea King on the Warden island and saw that the Owl statue wasn't intractable anymore.

I say this because the first time I went there for the World Quest I clicked on it and it changed direction and now I couldn't do it anymore. It reminded me a lot of the process in which you guys went about this boss.

Maybe it's related...

EDIT (9/8): We no longer believe the pearls or murlocs or Seabreak have anything to do with the hippogryph. I firmly believe this is similar to the Camel mount and that we need to find a passage to this Legion Feralas zone.

My friend explained to me the finding of Drak'thul and Kosumoth the Hungering and I decided to dig into it unknowing of what I was about to uncover.

Thanks to the wowhead community and comments and theories, I was lead just north of Nor'danil Wellspring, following a small path that leads to the top of the mountain. When I reached the top there were hippogryphs roaming about and then some demons. I killed the demons and began searching along the cliffs and trees hoping to find an egg of somesort or a clue leading to the mount. Unfortunately by the time I reached the bottom I didn't discover anything. Eager to find a lead I ran back up the mountain searching the trees again. When I came to around the corner where the hippogryphs can first be spotted I noticed a tree on the side of the cliff, almost unreachable. This tree stood out only because all the other trees are alive and lush, this one was dead with no leaves. I had to gobliin glide over and discovered it to be a cave with two hippogryphs peacefully sleeping side by side. I found nothing within the cave and thought, not to my liking, killing them would cause something, agian nothing. Two things to note right after I searched the cave for clues. There's fish bones at the entrence of the cave along with hippogryph feathers scattered. Why fish? Why so many feathers? I only came to a connection when my friend (the same that told me about Kosumoth) and our guild leader went to Seabreak Isle, the furthest island off the coast of Azuna. To my surprise and my Sherlock Holmes thinking, the cave points directly towards the island sitting in the sea. So, naturally, we set sail for Seabreak. One thing I noticed right off the bat and the first thing I saw was the first boat washed ashore was cut in half and appears to be a Night Elf boat because of its style and purple color. Another thing was the giant pearl hidden behind the giant murloc atop of the isle. In betweeen searching across the west coast of Azuna, we found another pearl alike underwater.The NPCs on the island that seem important include, Slushy, Nanook of the Ka'luak, Spurt, Weird Beard and Salty, all seem to have no value in finding the hippogryph. We also seached underwater and around these isles in hopes for a cave or cavern thiking that the isles are just decoys for the real treasure with no luck again. We feel so close and I hope other adventurers can benefit from our findings.

Edit: So this is the third pearl I've come across though, anyone know their significance? (48,96 on Azuna map, very southern point of Isle of Watchers.)

I have been looking around for a little bit myself and as well as finding the hippogryph cave in the side of the mountain that has a lot of hippogryph near it, along with the bones further down the mountain below it. I did notice at the top of that mountain there were 2 bloodthirsty foxes just stood by a tree and i haven't seen them anywhere else.

I know it is probably nothing but i keep seeing these scattered around the zone and wondered if they had any purpose.

"You are the only one that remembered."

We need to think about this sentence because unlike every other mount in the game, it is the only description we get about this mount. In other words, It's unlikely that it is just flavor text.

This sentence can mean two things:

1. It is referencing the story of how the hippogryph was long-forgotten. How the old elves of Azsuna say they remember or feel like they are still alive, but are not.

2. Blizzard is talking directly to the player. They are telling us to remember some lore or content from the past. This mount has a very old model dated very far back. Dig deeper lore nerds.

Solving the only real piece of evidence given to us should be our first course of action.

Long post about Owl of the Watcher statues. After doing some testing I doubt it has anything to do with the Long-Forgotten Hippogryph but here’s my research if anyone wants to read:

Sometimes the statues give you a buff that only last 2-3 minutes. The buffs that I found were:
Suppression. Can hold up to a maximum of 5 charges. You target a mob, use the extra action button, and it casts it. Standing in the purple mist emitted by the statues gives you this and increases your charges.
Stasis Field. A ground-targeted extra action button ability. Can use on NPCs, other players, and also yourself. It’s really good at trapping and immobilizing a large pack of mobs. Just don’t trap yourself too.
Augmented Armor. Standard buff. I didn’t find this particularly useful as I was avoiding most NPCs anyway but if there’s a lot of melee mobs you can just run through them and they barely do any damage.

Spent a few hours doing the Owl of the Watcher statues at the Isle of the Watchers in Azsuna. Initially I found that most of the statues were not actually interactable at all (couldn’t click and no cogwheel would appear mousing over). I eventually found one that was interactable, after that then another one would be interactable. It was similar to the Kosumoth orbs where it “appeared” I had to click them in a certain order.

Eventually I had clicked all 9 statues, nothing happened in the end. Sometimes the statues gave me a buff, sometimes they flashed blue-ish or red-ish and had glowing arcane runes moving up and down them, and sometimes they started emitting a purple gas/mist. After about 3 minutes the spell effect would disappear and the statue would go back to normal. When I tried clicking on the statue again it said “You can’t do that yet”. So there must be a cooldown on how often the statues can be interacted with. I’m beginning to think they’re just like Time-Lost Shrines on Timeless Isle.

I would be interested to see if something happens if they’re all activated at the same time. Anyway, as per the request of someone I went to the owl that follows you near Azurewing Repose after clicking all the statues, nothing happened with the owl.

Finally, I flew back to Isle of the Watchers and found that most of the statues had turned themselves off and were no longer interactable anymore. I found that I had to reactivate them all over again a 2nd time but in an entirely different order than before. I have a feeling that they just randomly turn on and off after a period of time after they’ve been used.

(Side note: Based on the screenshots provided by Argonized, the last picture with the broken permanently uninteractable statue in the spider cave at 42,88: Just to the right of that is another (I think 2 actually) much larger owl statues covered in spider web that aren’t broken and look just like the clickable ones, glowing eyes and all. I didn’t spend much time there at all because there are just too many NPCs there running around and they hit like a truck.)

Llothien owl 50 26

This Llothien owl sits on crossroads just up from Azurewing Repose. There's a lot of these owls around in Azsuna, many sit on some lanterns or trees. There are some owls that are triggered when you come around. They fly away, disturbed by your appearance. BUT this particular owl.... she follows you when triggered. She makes a hoot and then follows you anywhere you're heading for 30 secs. Then she just gone.
Also I'm sure there's only one owl that doing such thing. And the only one who sits on a column. And the column where she sits. It's only one of that kind that's undamaged(i checked myself).

My guess that she's someone else, disguised as owl, trying to get my attention and get help from me.
At last, I guess all this search of Long-Forgotten Hippogryph isn't about hunting and camping and killing. It's about rescuing the pink one from the trouble.

Little update: Even if in fact this has to do with mount, there still must be some extra-rare element to it. Maybe some potion or scroll rare enough to make it another grey camel. But it may not even be in Azsuna. My obvious bet is Suramar. Lots of lost\forgotten things tied to it.

The Hippogryphs there are spectral, therefore their remains/life could have been long-forgotten, as well as having a pinkish hue to them.

I just spent about an hour dead in Azsuna trying to find something I could interact with (cause long-forgotten = dead?). I didn't have any luck. I explored most of the night elf structures in Azsuna, and the Isle of Wardens.

So, this is what I think about how this mount will be obtained. Keep in mind, this is pure and utter speculation.

I think that there is a reason the trees are climbable in Azsuna. I think that very specific tree(s) may have Hippogryph nests in them, with broken eggs. However, I think there is a chance that it will also contain an Unbroken Hippogryph Egg. Interacting with this egg will place an item in your inventory to summon a baby Hyippogryph, which then offers you daily quests as it grows up... Ala Venomhide Raptor and Winterspring Saber. I think that, perhaps, the baby Hippogryph will shed it's Pinkish Leyfeathers until a certain amount required, before it's 'fully grown'. Finish this last quest by getting your Leyfeathers daily, and you have a new mount.

Long-Forgotten to me screams a forgotten egg, perhaps by a deceased mother hippogryph thanks to the new Legion threat, etc.

Any idea what the 3-entrance cave in Azsuna can be about? This is far-fetched to be about the hippogryph, but... I looked in the comments, but haven't seen the coordinates mentioned. If they were, pardon me.
All of the entrances are fairly easily reached. Two of the them can be gotten to from the ground, third leads out in the middle of the mountains which you can jump down to from Cailyn Paledoom, to whom the discussed Llothien Owls lead.

Cave itself seems to be completely empty except couple of abandoned things around. (pic)

Here are the coordinates and pics of entrances:

55.61, 19.92 between the trunks of the two trees (path up / entrance from back / entrance)

In a discussion at work with some fellow wow players, something else occurred to me that I haven't seen tried/listed...

Mind Control....

In Vanilla wow, there was a caster in UBRS, right inside the door, that could be MC'd to give a Fire Resistance buff for MC/BWL raids. Blizzard admitted that it was on purpose.

Mind control has been improved to include BEASTS and elementals (Everything except Demons,Mechanical, and Undead). Even if its not the way to the hippogryph... this could be the answer to other Legion secrets...

Demons can be controlled by warlocks to open their abilities.

Lothien Owl (~50, 26) - When MC'd, this bird only has the normal Peck ability... strangely you cannot change the height at which it is flying. It stays at the same height when you first mind control it.

Is there anyone who turned in a Pristine (I think it was) Hippogryph egg in the Feralas/Tanaris quest chains back in Vanilla/TBC? I think I did, but can't recall which chars.

The NPC involved and the machine are now mostly gone (just a part of the machine lays in Gadgetzan). The hippogryph nests remain in Feralas, though the eggs no longer seem to spawn.

I always wondered what would happen to the eggs I turned in (from purple Frayfeather hippogryphs, no less), but the quest ended there. I still suspect it's related. If there's anyone who still held onto an egg, or did the quests way back when, maybe you can check it out.

This is a bit of a stretch and may or may not be relevant but on a whim, I decided to Google Lloth, as in Llothien, to see if I could find out where Blizzard came up with the name. Of course, the first results were Lolth, the spider demigod from D&D. But after sorting through those, I came across Lloth as another name for Lilith, an ancient demon, associated with owls.
The following is from Wikipedia (which I know isn’t a foolproof source): There shall the Lilith repose, and find for herself a place to rest. (15) There the hoot owl shall nest and lay eggs, hatch them out and gather them in her shadow; Book of Isaiah 34:14.
There is another Llothien owl on the trunk of the tree behind the pillar, but the tree is not climbable; maybe a DH could double jump up there and see if the second owl is interactable.
Lilith is also sometimes referred to as the Queen of Demons, and usually represented as a Succubus.

Could this be related to the Golbin in Val that tells you to go away when you knock on the door? I don't know the exact location, but... I am curious if you bring an item to the door if it will open and let you inside...

I tried knocking like 30 times without luck..

Something interesting here, unsure if related to the hippogryph or not. The other day I was wandering around Val'sharah and came across a large wooden druid cat statue in the second floor of a house in the large nightmare area (at 66,53).

I didn't take much notice of it then until earlier today when I found another one in Azsuna. This one was much smaller, but identical to the first. It was in the Nar'thalas ruins at 53,45 I think on the second tier of the wall. This one stood out more because it does not fit into the surroundings at all, completely out of place there.

Can't interact with them in any way at first glance. It does give off the feel of being a usable object though. I've been checking other zones on the wild theory that there may be one or more in each zone, but no luck in that so far. Anyone know anything about it or have seen others?

Hello!

I have a crazy teory about this mount, and have to do with archaeology. There is an new toy - Crystalline Eye of Undravius - from archaeology weekly mission that you get from Brann Bronzebeard.

Basically, this toy change the map reality to one that legion won the war of ancients. Meteors falls from the sky, monsters become demons, environment becomes fel, etc.

What if this hippogryph was forgotten in this time? You only stay in this new reality for 15 seconds.

Plus, this toy have only 5min of CD. Seems suspicious to me.

Now whats left is go to Azsuna and start trigger the toy everywhere. It may get in nothing, or may give us a cool new mount.

This might not be anything: but on the broken shore, near the flightmaster there is a split elven ship with a crate with a map/schematic on top. Can't post a picture of it, but to me it looks like mechanic golem grabbing a bird and putting into a net. Any input?

Crows for Stormheim
Eagles for Highmountain
Owls for Azsuna
Rooks for Val'shara

Hello guys,

a quick summary on what we are working on discord right now:

We found the spell "Summon Long-forgotten-hippogryph". On wowdb it says that it has 5 Crystal Dummy Aura 1.
Then we found 5 Ephemeral Crystal on wowhead. Looking up on wowdb three of them were added in the same built the Weathered Relic was added (to summon Kosumoth). Two other crystals of the same name were added in two buils around the same time, but not the same builts. These crystals share the same model as Arkonite Crystal and have a duration of 8 hours. That would fit to the "ephemeral".

So now lets find these crystals.

It could be that you need a trigger so interact with these or something like that.

So......

Thandris Feathermoon has a mount like this.
She was mentored by Tyrande..
She fell in love with Jarod Shadowsong who led the sentinels during the War of the Ancients, who is also a questgiver and important NPC in Val'Sharah, brother to Maeiv Shadowsong and pupil of Lord Ravencrest (as were Malfurion, Illidan and Tyrande).

This "quartermaster" has his own side room that needs ARCHAEOLOGY (*remember*) to access.
The *copy* of Feralas is legit a new addition with Legion and requires Legion to access - Feralas is where Feathermoon is located.

Despite the Aszuna drop location for this mount I will put my left nut in a vice if this instance has nothing to do with the sequence...

To obtain Reins of the Long-Forgotten Hippogryph, you have to find out and click to 5 Ephemeral Crystal faster than other players. Crystals located in Azsuna and spawn at once in random points. I know about 5 spots atm, people said they found more. Dont sure about respawn timer, seems it's higher than 3 hours.
When crystals spawn and you click any of them, you got buffed by Crystal Dummy Aura 1, 2, 3 etc and now have 8 hrs to find other ones. Player, who will first find out all 5 crystals obtains the mount, all crystals disapper. Next round.
If you die, you have to collect all 5 crystals again =/

I was looking for an Ephemeral Crystal, and interestingly, Aluneth started reacting to where the crystal was supposed to spawn. For those who are unaware, Aluneth is the Arcane mage Artifact Weapon, and its hidden power is that it reacts to magical points throughout the Broken Isles for a buff. I submitted a screen shot. So far, the crystal hasn't spawned, but there's not much info on timers and whatnot.

I will investigate the other spawn points and see if Aluneth reacts to them as well.

Edit: It was at the Azurewing Cave spawnpoint of 50,20.

So i've been swimming around the outskirts of Azsuna and i've encountered a few random pearls in clams, no idea if this is connected to "anything" what-so-ever. I found one clam on an island full of murlocs, 19,19 Azsuna. and I didn't get the coordinates for the other one. but I found two just swimming around. The one I found without coordinates was in a massive clam. It was sparkly. I just have no idea if this is connected to anything, if anyone wanted to look into it. I just find it weird that blizzard made an island full of elite murlocs who have around 6-10M health each, with nothing but a pearl at the top of the small island. Might be something to look into, or might not. :)

EDIT: Found another pearl close to the island, 34, 16 Azsuna.Still not sure if this is connected to anything, Third one I've found.

A complete guide for Reins of the Long-Forgotten Hippogryph

The LFH model was first datamined back in BC in 2007. This purple/pink model is used in game for NPC's Darnassus Hippogryph Rider but was never released as a player mount until now. LFH is Legion's version of The Time-Lost Proto Drake, although the way you acquire LFH reminds me more of finding the portals with Voidtalon of the Dark Star.

To obtain this rare mount you must find and click 5 Ephemeral Crystal within 8 hours of the first one without dying. If you die, you must start over again. The first player to find and click all 5 crystals without dying, gets the mount. There are over 20 known spawn points. All are located in Aszuna. Once you have found and clicked all 5 Crystals you will trigger the zone-wide emote "You hear a faint caw in the distance and then silence…" All crystals will then despawn and the mount will be awarded to awarded into your bags. One mount per crystal spawn, per realm. This Mount is personal loot and can not be traded or sold.

Ephemeral Crystals: The word ephemeral means lasting a very short time or short-lived. Hence the 8 hour timer, The crystals are a bright pinkish/purple and look like stones. The are large enough to be seen clearly and hard to miss. As seen in this screen shot here. http://imgur.com/VTRrf0l

Camping:
It is not yet known what triggers the crystals to spawn or how long the respawn timer is. I would assume, like with the Void Talon portals, that server reset will play a part in helping us find these crystals. I will also assume realm hopping will greatly help our chances at finding crystals, or camping on a non PvP realm when needed. I recommend health pots, bandages, flasks and buffs while camping. Anything to keep you from dying and having to start over. Camping with a small group of friends may also help. To check for crystals on other realms open group finder and click "premade groups" then click "custom" and join a group, any group really. You can sign up for 2-3 groups if you are not getting fast invites. I like the ones that are set to auto invite. Joining these groups will server hop you to the group leader server. Be on the watch for the zone wide emote that it has been found by another player so you know when you can take a break. It would make sense to camp a area with multiple spawn points near by. Make a plan ahead of time so you know which spawn point to run to next. Add-ons like Tom Tom and or cords are highly recommended.

Just received my mount today on Mannoroth-US. Like many other posters here my crystals were in different spots than the other confirmed locations so far.
The coords of my crystals were:
1) 60.20 35.03
2) 55.56 32.72 - at the bottom of the cliff
3) 54.80 28.05 - in the small space of land in between the large tree and the water
4) 57.69 42.31 - INSIDE the cave with the giant, walk in and it was along the right wall
5) I forgot to record the coordinates of the last one, but it was right outside of the cave that #4 was found in, on the edge of one of the little circular islands with naga.

Another interesting thing to note, it took me a little over an hour to collect and find all of the crystals (I was searching the entirety of Aszuna after finding the first crystal but the crystals ended up being very close to one another), however I did not receive my mount after clicking the 5th crystal. I had to run back to the first crystal and re-click it before I received my mount, so I think you may have to click all of the crystals in the span of 1? hour. It certainly did not take me anywhere near 8 hours, which is when I was thinking I would need to go back and reclick, so make sure to take note of the crystals that you have already clicked on in case you need to go back!

Have we found anything on spawn timers yet? I have read some thing about 3-4 hours, but i have been in Azsuna all day for the last 3 days and i haven't seen any crystals or seen the signal in chat that all have been found.

Got the mount 9:15AM 9/12/2016 on Sisters of Elune US.

I also found two new spawn points:

56, 40, Under the Bridge.

67, 46, Behind the Log.

Other spawn points were either the locations already found or close near them.

UPDATE: Well i just got lucky. Claimed my mount at about 6:55 server on Hydraxis - US *The crystals showed up at sometime around 5:50-6*
I believe in my 5 i had two unknown spots, which was of course very fun to deal with. I will update this post with those spots in a little.

Even if you don't get the mount when your crystals pop, PLEASE let us know that they showed up for you and when, so maybe the next time the crystals show up and you do possibly get it *or maybe not* we can make some sort of link on the spawn timer of these things.

Two new locations as of 5:15pm California time and 7:15pm realm time. Still looking for last three but already have two and they are new locations. Went to all other spots and haven't seen any, so my theory is they pop at random spots to keep people from actually camping them.

I had thought it was not spawning on EU EN. I said millions of times it was bugged. I was wrong! Obtained this beauty on Ragnaros - EU at 9pm server time (that was the last crystal). Took me about an hour of frantic panicking to actually find them all! Had help of two people looking for the crystals when i had found 2.

- not all coords are showing the exact spot, so make sure to always look around.
- almost every cave has a crystal spot inside.
- crystals spawn even in water, like in the academy.
- once you click on a crystal, it remains there but not clickable to you, so you can eventually go back and look at him to know if the crystals are still up.
- there are more spots to be discovered.
- you can click the crystals and get the mount with an character level 100 without doing any artifact quest, just going to dalaran and jumping straitgh to Azsuna. You can also learn the mount at level 100! :)

The respawn time is yet to be discovered, but we have report of people getting the mount nearly 1 day after a realm reset, but also after 4 days of a realm reset. Its hard to tell if the crystals respawn more than one time in a week in the same realm, especially with so many hotfixs (with realm resets) going on rigth now. We need more report from players!

*(the first spawn was noticed in friday after last thursday reset).

Greetings!

Was lucky enough to obtain this little fella yesterday at around 11 pm GMT+2 after a 3 hour hunt for crystals. I found the first while questing and decided to go on a hunt. After looking at the already found spots my plan was simple ... run around like an idiot, looking in every cave and under every rock. I took an extra close look at areas with wild hippogryphs in them (there are quite a few), but that didn't seem to be connected to the crystals. Every half hour or so I looked for the crystals that I already clicked to ensure they were still present. Gladly, it paid off eventually, so here are the spots I found them:

44, 60 - next to the ship; very visible from the water, could be hard to spot from the land
45, 54 - at the coast, inside the broken half of a ship (hard to see from almost every angle)
48, 48 - next to the two neutral giants at the bottom of the valley, pretty obvious
64, 34 - at the crossroads, again very visible
68, 23 - north of the demon camp; not sure about the exact coords, but it was very much visible from a great distance

Especially the second one is really well hidden. I must have missed it at least five times before eventually spotting it, so take a close look inside that broken ship.

As of now, 12 hours later, I couldn't spot another set of crystals. And I ran through Aszuna quite a bit, just out of curiosity. So either they haven't respawned by now or I just wasn't lucky enough to find one again.

Anyway, hope that was helpful to some of you.

I have been finding leystone nodes where past crystals have spawned. Maybe they spawn where nodes are? Might want to start marking them! They are all over the place. Different patterns!

So legit NO confirmations in the full day servers were up on tuesday, and since server maintenance this morning?

I get that wowhead isn't the whole player base but if the spawn was short you'd expect at least one. Hopefully servers stay up, interesting what we see at the 2-3 day point.

Feels like ppl are finding it and collect it and dont want to share or say anything so their friends can get it etc. Would be atleast kind to say that it has been collected so we dont runt like idiots everyday and not see a single crystal. I have been camping this everyday since friday and nothing up or any dialog upp etc, as far as i know. Then there is a scenario that it might have been collected while i have been offline etc. I have tried using The general chat but ppl are so unmature and says different stuff. 1 guy had 3 of same mount collected...... i mean cmn. So I've been seeing multiple posts on this section about people receiving their Reins of the Long-Forgotten Hippogryph on Monday (Sept 12) around 5PM-6PM EST. I was running around with my friend on Monday and the crystals were up around 4:00PM est, the mount was claimed by someone at 5:20PM EST. For the past few days I've been running around for hours everyday and have not seen any crystals up, or was told about any being up. I'm starting to think that these crystals could be a weekly re-spawn and be up for 8 hours (according to the aura you receive). I also feel like they're a worldwide spawn for realms or battlegroups since people have been getting them all on the same day, around the same time.

If people could keep a lookout on these crystals on other realms that would be great :) maybe we'll find out a re-spawn timer soon! Will do edits when I see them again.

Very annoyed, found my first crystal 20 mins ago, 10:20pm EU. Ran around searching every possible place, found none. Come back to place where I found it... gone. And no one got the mount because the text didn't appear once. So pissed right now.

Would like to add that I also killed my self and returned to the crystal location to make sure it was actually gone, it was. I'm pretty sure there is a phasing issue with the crystals because some mobs phased out and the crystal was gone.

So we had 'rolling restarts" this morning on US servers, mine was down for like 20 minutes. Does anyone know if these rolling restarts also reset the timer on the crystals? basically that'd put us back to 0 days as if this was tuesday..?

Actually the better question is, do rolling restarts reset the timer on TLPD/Aeonaxx/etc ? we've known info on those for years so it's safe to assume if it does reset them, then it resets this, too. Anyone know ?

(The beta one is almost a week old. While searching for them with others i was told they were from the "WoW General Secrets" Discord.
To my knowledge those weren't disclosed to wowhead since, for whatever reason.) (Well, until now :>)
All "relevant" infos are on/under/above the pictures.

Hopping to a different server and back did not mess with my crystals or my "hidden buff".
Same with logging out or leaving the zone.

Quick tip for those who might not know: Reduce your "Evironment Detail" in the graphics settings. (And maybe increase "View Distance"?) This will reduce the "clutter" in the distance, which decreases the amount your brain needs to interpret everything that may be unnecessary to your objective at hand, to preserve your resources and maybe do one more lap around Azsuna... It could help you in the long run, ... because this will most definitely be a "long run" for many of you. Ok... where was i? Oh yeah, you probably just spot the crystals quicker, because they can be seen from a very far distance. Helped me a ton. I hope it does for you.

On another note: I could not confirm the "they spawn one at a time as you click on them" theory.
This would indicate you'd have to revisit places you've been. (Which i did not do... save to say i was lucky then)

Seems to me either spawns are being missed, or we're having inconsistent confirms on spawns.

Remember to let us know all. Hard to know what the spawn timer is with no spawns being known.

What if these crystals were a one-time thing per realm? No proof that they are. The mounts journal quote for it says "You are the only one that remembered". "You are the only one".

Ephemeral - Lasting a very short time. Lasting but one day.
This could possibly mean that only one person can get it on the day that they spawn, for it is a one-time only spawn.

In 32minutes it will be a full week from our last mount grab on the Long-Forgotten Hippogryph. Crystals have not been up ever since on my realm. This may be something to consider. My realm is Norgannon/Kargath, if anyone else on that realm happens to see them again, pls let us know. It would suck if these were a one-time thing only.

Edit: There are re-spawns, but extremely long re-spawns. My friend got the mount, and it's me next. The way these crystals seem to be placed on spawns are; one crystal is completely hidden, and hard to find. while the other 4 are out in the open somewhere. These 4 can be close, or they can be far. but they are out in the open. That one hidden crystal is hidden, can be in bushes, inbetween two pillars that are extremely tight, leaving only a peak of pink to see it. So yeah, one of them are completely hidden and require actual effort in looking at every inch of azsuna almost. So as long as you found that one hidden one and you'll know when you find it, then you're good :) GL !

Edit(2): Crystals have spawned once again. I can confirm that they are exactly a 1 week spawn. Last grab on the mount was on Sunday @ 11:10AM EST. This spawn today was on Sunday @ 11:10AM EST also. i can confirm this because as I was running it popped up right in front of me, or spawned. I can however say that the bug remains where the crystal could randomly despawn. they were up for an hour and despawned. I had my friend just sit there and watch them while I went and looked. No one received the mount. hopefully this is fixed soon

Some points was too far from given data in comments. And one definitely new point.
I made screenshots of shard locations and screenshots of coordinates staying on shards (for accurancy).

Just to let you guys know, there is a high chance that the crystals have spawned on your server in the past 12 hours, but no one has said a word. On Tuesday and today, I have found 4 crystals and lost the mount on both tries and I have asked in general chat who got them, but twice they haven't responded and nothing has been posted on here either. Just a heads up if you guys are wondering.

Dropped on this 25th september 2016 on the realm Archimonde-EU (French). Was doing some archeology and there was a crystal spawned in a digsite...I almost had an heart attack ! My First Crystal
I then came here, on this comment section and I Copied/pasted all the waypoints of TomTom of "NaThuRe".
I then went to all the waypoints.
My 2nd crystal was on 56.00 40.00. Just under the bridge!
My 3rd crystal was on 52.41 13.44, on the north of the area. It was in front of a big tree.
My 4th crystal was on 35.98 23.02, near of the shore, at the west.
I then searched for like 15mn the last crystal without results... I was guessing someone had looted the mount...I was being mad/crazy/insane/psychopath when I found... IT !
So... My 5th and last crystal just near of my 2nd on 59.43 38.62
And finally when I clicked on the last crystal...
Between my 1th crystal and my last, 28 minutes passed.

I got this mount today, 26th September at around 15:40 Server Time on Kazzak EU.
I stumbled upon a Crystal when I was running around gathering the last treasures I needed in Azsuna.

The five Crystals I found was located at the following places:
1: 49.18, 53.54 - On a cliff just above the bridge where Warbringer Mox'na patrols
2: Don't remember exact location of this Crystal, but around 66.92, 33.25, just after the bridge on a cliff by the water
3: 66,5, 42.47 – In a ”corner” of Hatecoil Warcamp
4: 47.28, 62.25 – On a cliff slightly above a Cove Skrog at Oceanous Cove
5: 64.34, 33.05 – Next to a table in The Empyrean Society Enclave

Took me about 1.5 hours to find all the Crystals.
After I clicked the last Crystal, BAM, Long-Forgotten Hippogryph showed up in front of me and the mount was in my inventory!
Good luck with your search for this mount everyone – She sure is a beauty to have in the collection!

Just got this a little while ago on Skywall (US) @ 10:52pm server time.

After I clicked the first crystal I was able to find the rest within an hour. A BIG thank you to the many people that have posted coords here. That information paired with TomTom made this a lot easier to bare with after searching every day for many hours at a time.

To those hunting this beauty, keep your eyes open - even though majority of the coords on the comments are pretty accurate there may be many more crystal spawn areas that are just waiting to be found. Some do tend to be sneaky so its always best to be thorough when searching.

**Water Strider mount (or water walking ability/item) and some type of glider are a big plus when going along water areas or quickly scaling down cliff sides. **

Happened upon the first crystal while doing a loop of the coords from NaThuRe's post.
All of my coordinates were somewhat close to known ones, but are far enough to be considered:
50.55 20.40 (a few steps deeper than known, missed it 2x)
36.05 23.00 (between 2 trees on the road)
50.58 57.03 (cave by the wedding, with lover ghost)
67.73 32.86 (in a bit of a recess but easily seen)
49.60 53.79 (H'dranil Peak, off the road just before the bridge near tree)

Was definitely lucky, as I lost internet for at least 30 min after finding the 1st crystal... So good luck and happy hunting!

so far i havent seen any reports of people getting it this week. either they are not reporting the finds or its going to be late this week. we had no resets since tuesday i would be expecting to see a few people get this. very strange. ive been farming 2 servers non stop havent seen 1. same with a buddy.

Just had a spawn up at 655 eastern time US Twisting nether. crystals were up for about 2 hours. i had 4 crystals yet again after 10mins. couldnt find the 5th. then got the message you heard a caw. someone found em. im so broken this is the 2nd time i had 4 of them . im willing to take any help i can get to get this mount.

First at 45.6 9.3 (on a rock covered by grass) 6.10 pm

Claimed on Kirin Tor EU - 5:30GMT. Finally.

I have been farming this mount since the day it was discovered and have lost out to it 4 times on the server Die Aldor EU (would advise not to farm on this server as there is at least 4+ people actively farming; in the end, I began farming on Kirin Tor). I have found some new locations for you guys as well I have taken photos of all the crystals I have found. Check them out below.

Advice

Keep checking on here for potential new crystal locations and what server the mount was obtained on.
Install the addons - TomTom, HandyNotes, HandyNotes_LongForgottenHippogryph and Paste
I would not farm this on reset day, but the next day.
Use my macros listed below, there is a lot but it will help.

I just got this mount today, October 1st on US Eldre'thalas at around 2:17pm Pacific time. I found a possible new waypoint! It took about an hour to find all the spawns! My toon is Orthe-Proudmoore. There was about 4-5 people looking for crystals as well and I am very lucky to have gotten it! Here are the waypoints of the crystals:

Crystal #1 - /way 50.4, 56.9
Crystal #2 - /way 46.9, 49.0
Crystal #3 - /way 61.9, 30.90
Crystal #4 - /way 60.0, 27.8
Crystal #5 - /way 60.2 54.6 ***Possible new***

NOTE: I do not have a screenshot of the crystal at the new waypoint because my stream crashed and I was too excited to click on it!

FInally got this. I've looked for this for 3+ weeks almost non stop, and I finally got it. I'm tired, sleep deprived and still half dead from the adrenaline rush. But after all those years of wanting it I finally got it.
If it weren't for the kind people from the discord that helped me get it I would still be out there running laps, special thanks to the people there.
All spots were known (basilisk water spot, llothien, cliff above oceanus, between llothien and azurewing next to a tree, nor danil cave) I forgot to press my macro that takes screenshots when I hover over them because I was in such a rush. Time to pay it forward and help the next person get it.
I can leave azsuna for now, it's over. I'm so happy.

After finding a total of four mounts on my realm over the last few weeks, three of which have been given to some well-deserving Discord members, I think I can safely share a bit of useful information on spawn timers.

Particularly interesting are the 3rd and 4th spawns I've found.

Spawn #3: October 1st on Frostwolf/Vashj-US at roughly 5:30 am pst.
Spawn #4: October 2nd on Frostwolf/Vashj-US at 5:41 am pst.

This confirms for us that crystals can spawn as short as 24 hours after weekly maintenance or previous spawns. However, while we now know the earliest it can spawn... I still am not sure what the maximum is. Other sightings suggest it could be as high as 48 hours.

Edit: Found a 5th spawn on Frostwolf yet again this morning, October 4th at 2:00 am pst, roughly 45 hours after the 4th spawn & only three hours before the weekly maintenance. Definitely looking more and more like a 24-48 hour spawn window, with any sightings over that being respawns or crystals that have been up for quite awhile.

Edit #2: Since the launch of 7.1, this is no longer correct. For some reason the spawns seem to have been increased and we are now seeing them as short as 12 hours apart.

logged on and noticed first crystal at about 8:30 EST......and then at like 10:00 i had go fix my mother's flat tire after my third crystal so i figured that was it and i was done...but got back to immediately find 4th crystal still active

As far as i can tell none of the 5 crystals were at known spots (at least not on the top posts)

crystal 1: found at 65,50 next to tree
crystal 2: found at 60,27 up against the wall/hill by the bears (submitted screenshot - if accepted)
crystal 3: found at 51,37 in the water
crystal 4: found at 57,31 next to the tree in the middle of circle

From my observation, I have found that the crystals do indeed have a minimum spawn time of about 24 hours, and seems to have at least a maximum spawn time of 55 hours. I've spent 55 hours straight and never logged once with no sightings and no zone-wide emote. The max time could be much larger, though.
I highly recommend HandyNotes and the water-walking mount. Also, having someone ready to help you find the crystals is a huge advantage. I had my husband (who found 2 of them) search the south while I worked on the north section of Azsuna and it only took us 28 minutes to find all five.
Every time a new location was discovered I added it to HandyNotes as a pink diamond and red x's for cave locations.

Hi everyone! I have a few questions I want to get cleared up about farming these crystals because I've read multiple answers and aren't sure which to believe. Any help would be very much appreciated.

1. Does all 5 crystals spawn at one time? I mean, are we able to go to any coordinates and find five crystals up or do we have to find one crystal first to get another to spawn? I hope that made sense, haha.

2. Does the "hear a caw in the distance, then silence" message pop up for every person in Azsuna, regardless if they're looking for the crystals or not? Does it pop up on the screen or just in chat? I've heard both.

Got this beautiful mount on 3/10/16 at 12:46pm on Darkmoon Faire. Stumbled upon my first crystal at 12:24pm, so only took 22 minutes to find and click all 5. From what I could tell, you need to click one in order for the next to spawn. I can't thank the guys on Discord enough for coming to help me look for them.

My first crystal was at 50.16
Second at 55.10
Third at 49.31
Fourth at 58.24
And final one was in the cave at 34.35

Super excited I finally got this, but wanted to share my experience to help out anyone still farming:

Found on Garrosh server on Thursday morning. First one at aprox. 9:55 AM, last at aprox. 11:55 AM. Total hours farmed, 70+: First in segments of 6 hours, then 8 hours, then 12, checking back repeatedly. Copied all known/speculated coords into TomTom macros and followed the circuit.

First one found at: 57, 31
Second found at: 46, 31 (Cave).
Third found at: 52, 13
Fourth found while flying from Shackle's Den to Illidari Stand (noticed on the mountain and it was not previously on my circuit, so just got lucky here): 49, 53.
Fifth found at: 35, 22

After several failed attempts over the past few weeks, I finally got my mount last night on Ghostlands-US @ 635 pm server time.

#1- 49.38 50.48 Behind the giant Sleepy Dhow
#2- 47.1 25.8 near the lake at Azurewing Repose
#3- 49.8 Lair of Deposed cave
#4- 58.20 24.66 near the cliff edge in Farondale
#5- 55.75 25.46 Llothien cave entrance with the last crystal inside near the back wall

One of the crystals I found last week was located in Timeworn Strand at 37.00 21.56 between the building and tree. Other times, the crystals were in the vicinity of the listed waypoints so be sure to look around.

Hey there, I created a small addon that could benefit you if you are planning to go for this mount or are already camping it. It essentially plays a sound if it detects the zone-wide emote in your chat log and displays a dialog box in the middle of your screen. You can now take your eye off your chat log, and have this addon handle it for you!

Just got this on Dragonblight-Fenris US at roughly 12pm EST.

I might have missed them being mentioned before, but I think I had two unknown (or unrecorded/macro'd) spawns:

For all my crystals except the one in oceanus cove which wasn't known to me or on my route, that I found last, I found the other 4 doing my route normally and found the one in the grizzly cave just on a hunch and being thorough. I can't know if other people were trying for it or not, but if all the crystals don't spawn at once I got incredibly lucky to find almost all mine on my normal route.

Got this beauty today on Die-Nachtwache/Forscherliga - EU after weeks of searching und never found one of these crystals until today! :} it took me 30 minutes to find all 5 with a friend.

I have been spending ages in Aszuna since I found out about this mount.
Today I saw my first crystal, and managed to obtain mount.
3 crystals out of 5 weren't found before - I've took all coordinates from wowhead, and have been running in circles between these spots. As I said 3 crystals were in places not mentioned here.

60.48 - known
65.49, 29.28 - known
36.98, 21.60 - not mentioned
65.13, 50.77 - not mentioned
60.99, 17.33 - not mentioned

I found first crystal around 5am, and got the mount around 8am. Meanwhile I died once, and had to leave computer for half an hour so I guess I was lucky. Also this was maybe cause crystals were in not known spots so if anyone was looking around for them, they had to search all over Aszuna, not only in known spots.
If you die - no worries, just come back to your first crystal and click it again.

Good luck to all hunters! Have your eyes opened as I think a lot of spots haven't been found yet so you can stumble upon crystal in weird place :)

I found the last crystal and got the mount at 2:33 am (CST) on 10.14.16, Blackrock US. All were well known nodes.

Do yourselves a favor and:
1) Turn your ground clutter to 0
2) Bribe a friend to help look. Touch the crystals, split up, and then backtrack on each other. I missed the last node because it was behind a tree hiding in a lavender cluster. My friend has sharper eyes than I and spotted it doing a second pass.

I found this mount on Tol Barad (Brazil) Thursday night October 20 at 11:26 PM Pacific time. I found the first crystal at approximately 11PM, so the search for five took less than 30 minutes. Thank you to everyone who has posted their info on spawn times and locations, it was a tremendous help.

My first three and fifth crystals were at well-known locations that have already been posted here numerous times.

Now here's my speculation as to whether all five crystals are visible at once or become visible in consecutive order (second crystal doesn't appear until first is clicked, etc). This of course is based solely on my personal experience, and I could be completely wrong.Once I found my first crystal, I found 2-5 in less than one circuit of the waypoints in less than half an hour. This suggest to me that all 5 are visible at once. If the second crystal doesn't appear until the first is clicked, and the third doesn't appear until the second is clicked, etc., it seems highly probable to me that at least one of them would have spawned behind me and I should have had to repeat the route at least once and taken much more time between the first and last crystal.

Now once again I could definitely be wrong and might have been very lucky.Someone else may have evidence that shows this is not the case and they do indeed appear one after the other. What we really need to prove this one way or another is someone who already has the mount and finds one crystal without clicking, and then a second body sits at the first crystal to ensure no one else has clicked. This is unlikely to work out, but it is the only way I can think of for a definitive answer on simultaneous or consecutive spawns.

I received my mount on October 21, 2016 at 5:47 a.m. EST on Mok'Nathal/Silvermoon realm. Two of the crystal locations were rather common and screenshots/co-ordinates can be found listed in multiple other posts on this page. Three of the locations were not listed on my map via TomTom after I had scanned this page and added all of the previously known positions (see the screenshots below). Therefore, it took me about 2 hours to find all 5 crystals. Good luck and happy hunting!

Managed to get this at 11:00 PM server on a Saturday, Norgannon/Kargath-US.

Big thanks to Lavandar for his waypoint compilation, it helped a lot. I believe points 3 and 4 are not on his/her list yet.

Spawns were:
1) 49.6, 50.6 (behind Sleepy Dhow)
2) 52.4, 13.4 (on the big open hill west of the Ley-Ruins)
3) 51.7, 57.7 (inside the sea giant cave, in the southeast corner, same one kellyislame found, cave coords 83, 81)
4) 55.9, 10 (on the hills just north of the Ley-Ruins, coordinates might be *slightly* off as I didn't think to record it until after I had the mount, but it was easy to see)
5) 65, 50 (by a tree at The Ruined Sanctum)

An important note for everyone still farming this amazing mount: where the TomTom coordinates say the crystal is in a cave or slightly hidden, check everywhere in that area. I found crystals after 3-4 times of checking the area because they were slightly hidden by a mob, rocks, or in the corners of caves. Check every inch of the cave for the crystals to ensure that you will find them if they are up. If your computer is set to low graphics, the crystals will appear way before any of the foliage/rocks in the caves, making it easier to find them.

I just got this mount on US-Proudmoore, found my first crystal at 1p server, got the last at 5:20p server.

Crystal 1: 47,53 behind a rock
Crystal 2: 37,32 Nor'danil Wellspring
Crystal 3: 63,53 Gloombound Burrow, inside the cave to the left in a little nook
Crystal 4: 55, 10 Drop down to a cliff from the Ley Ruins area
Crystal 5: 65,29 Under a freaking stump, why.

You can see the crystals from flight paths, if you have sharp eyes. I frequently saw my crystal 4 as I fruitlessly hunted for crystal 5 for two hours.

Today at night (23:00-02:00 server time) i found 3 out of 5 spots.
These spots i found in 15 minutes, but other 2 hours i just walk around all map.Guess it were new spots, and i didnt know where are they.
At 03:00 crystals were dissapear and i went to sleep.But I know, somebody take them.He take them and say no word nor in the chat nor in here.

This was just found on US-Stormreaver. I was trying to find the 5th orb for a few hours, but was beat out by another player who was looking just as long. Here are the confirmed spawn locations:

I got my mount on Sunday morning at 4:30 a.m. (5:30 a.m. server time on Area52). I had the HandyNotes addon installed, as well as some macros set so I had a path to follow to make this easy... However, upon looking for the crystals, I discovered 3 new spots!

49.22, 24.22 (New: Above the Azurewing Repose cave, behind to the shrine on the cliff)
53.36, 26.08 (New: Between the 3 trees, to the left of the path)
35.72, 25.07 (New: Beside the tree with the lantern and fence, to the left of the path)
47.06, 25.81 (Known: Beside the tree with the big flowers, behind Senegos)
51.29, 65.15 (Known: Tucked away between the two wooden pillars that are tied together with the rope)

Just got mine my first time out!
Preparation is absolutely key in getting the mount.

In my spare time over the last few days I plotted out my own HandyNotes map using the spawn points listed at http://lfh.worldofpunks.com/ (thanks dude awesome resource!).
I made sure I went to each location to look at the area for myself to help speed up the search when it was on.

For my server it spawned around 42 hours after the server reset.
I had 4 crystals for over 15 min and couldn't find the last one, my marker for it ended up being hidden right under the label for the only WQ in the zone I hadn't done.

My locations were (in order I found them):

1) 67.7, 32.8 http://imgur.com/vsirOqR (Felblaze Ingress - down hill near water)
2) 50.21, 23.49 (Inside the cave at Azurewing Repose - very hidden its inside the crystal formation only the tip shows)
3) 36 23 http://imgur.com/RWDr6V5 (between 2 trees on the road) (I can't remember for sure but i think it was this)
4) 49, 8 http://imgur.com/Mo5V3Zy (on little rock inside Lair of the Deposed cave)
5) 51.4, 37.6 http://imgur.com/4Mn5ykl (underwater closer to Mrrgrl rare elite)

I think I was probably very lucky with one of the spawns being the hidden one in the cave at Azurewing Repose, anyone who doesn't really know about that spawn would have a hard time seeing it.

If you take the time to familiarize yourself with most of the spawns and what each location looks like it's a lot easier.

Sylvanas EU and Shadowsong EU servers 27.10.2016

I have some info about times that crystal can start spawn. I have been patroling 2 servers for the crystals for long time. Mainly on server Sylvanas EU. Today after 34 hours from server restart crystal spawned ( about 15:25 ). Lucky me got them all in less than 30 min and finally recived my mount. After that i was cutious to check my other server Shadowsong EU and the crystals was also up so is pretty much sure that they start spawn from 30+h after server restart and i am almost sure after some one obtained mount on server can be another 30h+ for new ones... Wish everybody best of luck. If you want your mount you need spend time to patrol all the knowing spots in the most possible respawn times. adding some pictures of the places :)

After being stuck on 4 crystals for two spawns in a row, I decided to go off the beaten path to look for some that aren't listed on any of the maps that I've seen. I found one near a tree surrounded by prowlers just East of the Ley Ruins of Zarkhenar (map said Farondale, at approx 61,18) and another behind the tree to the left of Doomlord Kazrok (43, 28).

I recommend using a shaman to search for the mount, if possible. I used Far Sight to search caves and out-of-the-way spawns (remember you can cast another Far Sight while already channeling it). The Water Walking buff is also helpful if you don't have a water strider mount. Astral Recall is convenient as a second hearthstone with a slightly shorter cooldown.

Already found two spawns this week on Moonglade-EU, one at Thursday around 8 am, other Saturday around 5 AM, so maybe we had a change in 7.1 and got shorter respawns? Also can be just luck, maybe the spawn is not long at all, it's just rare to find the first crystal. Anyways sadly I was not able to get the mount. :(

Finally got my hyppo after spending many hours with the hyppo discord, eventually giving up for a while.

Today I logged to my alt on Blackscar-EU and found the crystals - actually pretty fast. All 5 were in the vicinity of the naga zone, all 5 - well known spots listed in pinned posts. The 5th crystal was found by my friend, who helped me find them.

After that, we hopped to that friend's server, and I found a crystal there pretty fast (Galakrond-EU). However, my friend couldn't click it! We theorized that it's because he still had 4 auras from my server. He died to mobs, ressed and only then could he click that crystal. We found the rest in ~30 minutes, pretty much getting 2 hyppos in just over 1 hour.

And my friend gets instant karma for helping me in my hour of need, which is also awesome. :)

A lot of people have mentioned the crystals spawning in generally the same region of aszuna which in my case was completely wrong. My spawns were alllll over the zone.

If you log out, or (as in my case) crash, the game will not count it as a death and you will not have to go back and reclick any crystal you've already found.

I had downloaded the HandyNotes_LongForgottenHippogryph addon. My advice to anyone reading this is... don't download it. It is a waste of time. It only has 12 coordinates. Of my five crystals, only the second one I found was even near one of those 12 coordinates; the one inside Azurewing Repose cave. I knew the addon was a mistake to get when the first crystal I found was not listen by the addon (although it IS in NaThuRe's macros). After I depleted the coordinates of the addon, and all those of the first macro I tried, I switched to those in NaThuRe's post. I was about half way through the first macro when my game crashed. After I logged back in, I started with the NaThuRe's second macro rather than redo the first one. The third crystal I found was underwater while the fourth was on the east side of Azurewing Repose. I do not know if the fourth crystal was in NaThuRe's macros, as (like the first) I just happened upon it on my way to the next coordinate (as I said before, I did not finish macro 1, nor did I continue on with macro 4 after I found the fifth crystal).

Upon clicking the fifth crystal, I was treated to an onscreen toast alerting me to my acquisition of the reins, and a Long Forgotten Hippogryph spawned right in front of me (I've uploaded the screenshot).

So, todaaaaay was my day (29.10.2016). Finally! =^_^=
I started searching for the beloved crystals around 11:00am on my server BLACKMOORE-EU. The first one
(found at ***61,30*** inside the cave)
was clicked at 11:13am. Then the race began. For my heart and the crystals. xD
Found the second one (11:18am)at
***47,33*** (pretty much visible).
Moving on to the third crystal:
***54,25*** (11:19am).
The fourth one took me a bit to find, but in the end I found it at
***36,12*** (11:27am)
at the murloc camp on the leftern coast of Azsuna.
Clicked the last one at
***67,46*** at 11:33am and I was done! :)

I have been farming this mount for a few days (all hours added together) and took notes whenever the hippogryph was obtained (thanks to all of you guys who posted their catches!). Please note that I ONLY wrote down the spawns on EU!
So, it's likely that the crystals spawn on:

-Monday (three reported spawns)

-Thursday (four spawns)

-Saturday (five spawns (including mine))

I wish you all the best of luck and don't give up (I surely was always frustrated after clearing my routine without finding any crystals (xD) but when you finally click the last violet jewel... it's just an incredible feeling! Especially if you've been farming them for an eternity!)!

Just got it on zenedar/bladefist/frostwhisper EU servers. Was running to a wq and saw one crystal and the chase was on! It took me about 40 minutes of nonstop running to find them all. Found first crystal at 20:55 gmt+1. Never give up guys!

I just found this mount yesterday 10-29-2016, Realm US - Ragnaros at about 9:57am UTC.
I had a few disconnections during the process (about 6), so I can confirm that disconnecting does not affect your progress towards the 5 crystals. In addition, I don't know about others but in my case all crystals were relatively close to one another.

Time: Clicked the last crystal around 7:00am EST. I can't remember what time I found the first, but somewhere between 5:00-6:00am.

I had the massive list of TomTom waypoints from the WorldOfPunks link someone posted (new account so I can't post links, but website this helped immensely!)
All of the crystals were found in known spots and I will try to remember exactly which waypoints I got them; I was going a bit too fast and hectically to really pay attention, but they were mostly pretty distinct areas.

Spawns:

/way 61.1 30.4 (in the cave on the rock to the right; I believe this is where the Warlock NPC stands)
/way 60.4 46.7 (to the right of the blue teleporter cave; this might not be the exact point, but I did find it in this area where the black hostile unicorns roam)
/way 60.2 54.6 (near the shadowfiends under little half tent; last one, took me forever to find)
/way 54.8 28 (behind tree next to lake; also might not be exact, but it was in this area, near where the brown owlcats and the world quest to kill Prowler are)

Unfortunately I can't remember where I found the fifth crystal, but I do recall it being in a very ordinary spot and it was definitely one of the waypoints! Sorry if that doesn't help much, :(

Reins of the Long-Forgotten Hippogryph : Not so forgotten now hey!

So this new rare mount is not obtained by killing your usual Rare NPC, oh no, this time you're looking for crystals, little, Ephemeral Crystals! And to get the mount you need to find 5 scattered all around Azsuna!

The average spawn timer for these bad boys is 12 - 24 hours after a server reset or after the mount has already been claimed.

BUT it's a race against the clock, you need to click all 5 of these before anybody else does otherwise they'll dissapear right before your eyes!

To start off with just a single Ephemeral Crystal will spawn. Once that one is clicked a second will spawn, clicking that, a third will spawn, and so on and so on! So you may have to go and check points you've already checked because it may of magically appeared over there!

Just got this tonight. A tip to help look for them:

Interactable items have a generally long load distance - this seems to be the case for the crystals. Mousing over them from a long distance away also always show you the gear cursor, as well. This means you can fly over Azsuna and spot crystals from afar, just look for and mouse over anything purple. Obviously this won't work for the ones in caves, but many spawn points are on land anyway, and it's a great way to check a large amount of points at once. Jump from Dalaran and use the Emerald Winds to give yourself plenty of time in the air.

At roughly 1:57 AM on Elune-US, I found the first Crystal, in the cave directly behind me facing Stormfeather /way 50.0 /57.4 roughly, the rare level 112 Elite Hippogryph that sometimes appears for a World Quest the Wardens. So began the hunt, I took to wowhead, i took to youtube as well searching for all the way points that everyone had found and collected and posted here and on youtube, so ultimately i was able to find my 5th one thanks to everyone in the community here on wowhead and youtube alike, at roughly 3:58 AM so thank you so much everyone for coming together and making the search that much easier!

Edit: I think it's also worth noting that when i accidentally crossed the aszuna and suramar borders i didn't lose my progress on the crystals, i don't know if someone else has mentioned this before, props to them if so, but i was still able to continue where i left off, i didn't test further just to avoid anything happening and losing my chance at getting this mount but, think it's worth noting either way. Good luck everyone in your search!

Just so ppl know I logged for about 30 minutes, I logged next to a crystal I add found. when I logged back in though I would have to click all my crystal again ,but no it save them .So as long as no one finds the mount and from what I understand you have 8 hours from first click . You don`t have to start over again like it was said in some comments. finally I can gladly say I got my mount on Arathor .

I took all the waypoints from the most popular 2 or 3 comments here and put them through TomTom at the same time. Then I checked the ones that were somewhat overlapping and bingo! If there was nothing around there I checked the points nearby and most of the time I found a crystal.
I don't think I found several crystals in the same area so I guess there must always just be one per area.

I would've loved to share all my waypoints with you guys but my WoW disconnected and gone was the macro with them in it :( Though I was able to guesstimate some:

Doing it early in the morning before world quests reset and people flood the zone is probably best. I left the zone to do a WQ in Val'Sharah and I also logged out for a couple minutes and no progress was reset. Got it this morning after 5. Took an hour or two using the stickied waypoints.

Can confirm that if you disconnect or die, you can go back and reclick the crystals you've clicked before. They're phased for just you and your party members.

Hiya! First time poster here, and I've got three sets of locations to share under the cut. :) All locations and times are on Stormreaver-US. I've deleted most of my purple prose about finding the crystals and mount, so if you'd like to know any other information about specific locations/crystals in this post, feel free to ask! Shout out to Solaeria who received their mount today after we spent an hour looking around the zone. Congratulations!

Useful info: My own successful hippogryph looting occured at 11:35pm on Wednesday, and I found the next next spawn's first crystal at exactly 4:00pm today, Friday. That would give the crystals roughly a ~40 hour respawn timer. Stormreaver comes online on the weekly reset at anywhere from 7:20-8:00am on Tuesday, and the first spawn was up at any time from 9:30pm-11:00pm on Wednesday, so that would give the first spawn a 25~ hour respawn.

I'd say these are all good times to do a complete search of the zone, given that it was reliable enough for me to get the mount.

Finally, I have some advice that may be useful to some: If you have a character with a tank spec @ 110, use them. It's not necessary, but the lack of dazing is extremely useful if you have to run through mobs to get from one spawn to the next. Get some leather barding if you don't have a tank spec, or a class with tons of mobility/combat dropping (havoc DH, rogues, hunters, etc).

Spoilers/cut because I ended up rambling a bit too much about each location.

First Spawn, Nov 2nd

48.53, 53.17 - Oceanus Cave, visible
51.31, 65.15 - Oceanus Cove, two logs, slightly visible
60, 17 - Ley-Ruins, under a tree, very visible
55.90, 29.40 - Llothien, by Pridelord Meowl, can't confirm visibility
61.60, 40.10 - Eye of Azshara, by the entrance in a wall (?), can't confirm visibility

The first time I found a crystal was Wednesday of last week while doing some engineering quests. This one's location was in the Oceanus Cove cave. I can't remember the exact coordinates (because I was freaking out at that point), but after going back and looking, I feel like it was at 50.68, 35.73 on the cave map and 48.53, 53.17 on the Aszuna map.

The next crystal was between two logs tied together at 51.31, 65.15. The final crystal I found was under the tree near the Ley-Ruins, at 60, 17. Another person managed to grab the other two before me, so I congratulated them in general chat and asked them about the locations. They didn't give me coordinates, but I believe based on what they described that the two crystals were located at 55.90, 29.40 and 61.60, 40.10.

They happened to mention that they had been looking for "about three hours", and by this point it was about 11:30/35pm server time. I decided that this was probably the first spawn of the week, and that I'd wait until next week and begin looking around the same time.

This led me to begin looking at about 11:00pm the following Wednesday.

Second Spawn, Nov 9th

29.90, 36 - Small island, slightly visible, must be close to see over rocks
29.90, 26.5 - Big island, visible from small island, very visible
36, 23 - Just off the main path, south of Timeworn Strand, slightly-mostly visible
52.40, 13.40 - Rock circle and owlcats, very visible
52.96, 35.94 - Underwater with some hostile eels, hardly visible

Estimated time spent looking: 30-35 minutes from the first crystal. I found my first one at 29.90, 36, on the little island off the western coast, and immediately spotted the second on the bigger island to the north at 29.90, 26.5. The next one was on the mainland, slightly off the path at 36, 23, and the fourth was at 52.40, 13.40, west of the Ley-Ruins and next to the rock circle and owlcats. My final (and almost overlooked) crystal was at the Nar'thalas underwater spawn point at 52.96, 35.94.

I took tons of screenshots, ran around the zone on the mount for a bit, and celebrated in whispers with some friends, of course!

Third Spawn, Nov 11

47.27, 61.89 - Oceanus Cove, by a Skrog on the hill - very visible
36, 23 - Just off the main path, south of Timeworn Strand- slightly-mostly visible
36.60, 12.20 - Timeworn Strand, in a bit of water, very visible
46.90, 17.75 - Azurewing Whelplands, up on the hill, very visible
50.21, 23.49 - Leyhollow Cave, buried in a bunch of bluish crystals - very hard to see, hardly visible

Time spent looking: 1 hour from the first crystal. That brings me to today's spawn. I was doing the Bloodgazer Hatchling quest to defeat the crab mini-pets, and stumbled upon the crystal at 47.27, 61.89 outside in Oceanus Cove. I asked in general chat if anyone wanted it, and after no responses besides "ur mom", I decided to put a group in custom to see if anyone would take it. Thankfully, a lovely warlock by the name of Solaeria from Uther applied, and we started looking all over the zone.

I decided to go clockwise from that point, and didn't find a crystal until I hit 36, 23, the same spot as one of mine. The third crystal was nearby, in the PvP murloc area at 36.60, 12.20. The fourth I found at 46.90, 17.75 up on the hill, and the fifth was located at 50.21, 23.49 inside the Azurewing Repose cave (I'm still surprised I managed to spot it! It's VERY hard to see.)

We had to do some backtracking, because clicking the fifth crystal didn't trigger the spawn. The first crystal was the culprit, and going back and re-clicking it spawned the hippogryph for them. :) I will swear that I saw them click the first one, so I don't know what happened between that and the fifth crystal. Just make sure to remember your spawn points when you find them!

In case anyone might be wondering. You can see the crystals even after having the mount. I wanted to help my bf find them for his mount but I wasn't sure if they would even be visible. I was able to see them and help him out.

I got this mount today, November 12, 2016 on Rhadamanthus-Ner'zhul (US)

2 were in the Felblaze Ingress subzone (67, 23 and 65, 28) that I easily saw doing a WQ. Another was in the Oceanus Cove Caves (51, 59) Another was just before crossing a bridge (65, 37) heading south from Felblaze. And the last was just north of the main path where Warbringer Mox'na patrols (49, 53) next to a waterfall. It took me about 4 hours to complete after finding the first 2 in Felblaze Ingress.

I'd like to add that the crystals you've clicked remain visable after clicking them UNLESS someone has claimed the mount. The moment the 5th crystal is clicked and the mount is awarded, all crystals will despawn.

Also, 2 crystals can spawn in the same subzone, at the same time.

Using a Stonehide Leather Barding was a huge help as well.

Got mine first try after randomly finding a crystal and then going on a research crusade. Commenting to share that after finding the first crystal, I logged out not once, but twice to install addons, and was still awarded the mount after finding 4 more crystals. Hope this helps and contributes to the crystal hunt knowledge base.

CONFIRMED RESPAWNTIMER: MINIMUM 18 HOURS.

I got mine last saturday, I was happy ( one week ago ).
Now, some friends helped me out so I was busy looking out for crystals whenever they show up again.

It happened again today ( Sunday Morning, 6 AM GMT+1 , Blackmoore DE EU ), I waited 2 hours if that one guy
shows up that helped me finding the last crystal ( that bugged tip in the Azure Repose cave ), but he didn't turn up,
so I invited an old friend from Sylvanas, she got it at 7 AM. Now, 18 hours later around midnight, I saw another crystal, and helped my friend get it, we looted at around 0:15 AM GMT +1 on Blackmoore again. That confirms a spawntimer of minimum 18 hours.

Names: Emphise - Blackmoore, Roxeh - Sylvanas, Floyddhermes - Blackmoore ( if you can look up mounts )

Finally snagged this pretty thing yesterday. Had seen crystals before.. but never found more than 1 at a time. Decided to give it a go when found 2 by accident. Spent hours looking for them on different spawn points, went 3 times all over them without any luck. After 4 hours I joined another server to check out if any crystals were up there, but without any luck. As I came back to where I had begun, I noticed crystal was gone. I was sad, since I must have missed the zone-wide message, that mount had been found. I logged off and decided to do some WQs on alt. To my surprise, I saw crystal from afar. I still had chance. Crossing to another server must have bugged them out for me and that was the reason I did't see them anymore. With dedication and willpower at my heels I jumped on the opportunity to hunt down that rare pink bird once more. I downloaded "Paste" addon, copied the waypoints there and the hunt began once again. Having the buff from 2 crystals I had found earlier I went on point by point, determined to get my hands on the mount this very day. As I entered the cave with giants and nagas, I noticed crystal shimmering behind some wooden debris. That meant 3, so only 2 to go.. and half the map left. Not bad.. I thought to myself as another crystal peeked out of the gold pile in that very same cave. My heart was racing as I struggled to keep my hands from shaking. I left the cave and looked at my next destination. The cliff overlooking a shipwreck yielded no results, but the next closest point had pink all over it! As I clicked it with pounding heart, the long-forgotten beauty was given to me. My treasure hunt was finally over and the joyful relief filled my heart.
I would like to give a my thanks to Youtuber SerroDan. Without him, I would have given up. Thanks to his waypoints and addon tips, it took me less than 30 minutes to find my birdy:) I recommend everyone who is after the bird, do it the way he explains and shows and you will have it if you are fast!

I got mine quite fast (imo)
I found my first during Operation Murlocs 37.03 21.61
I already added waypoints on my map so I thought id give it a go.

My second was around edge of water near Narthalas Academy 55.50 32.79

I found my third near Oceanus cove, on a hill near the graveyard. 52.92 57.94

My fourth was all the way north, along the edge of the hills where Aszuna meets Valsharah.
There were no waypoints registered here, so these spots are worth to look out for. 55.59 10.19

Then I just had to rerun the whole map again, I died a few times but expected the last to have spawned anyway.
I saw the older ones and clicked them again, but I am pretty sure I didn't activate each one between my last death and the last crystal.

My last crystal was IN THE CAVE at Oceanus Cove. 83.59 81.47
I didn't pay attention to the big cave, nor underwater areas.
So don't skip them! I got the Hippogryph immediately.

4th time around getting this mount for friends on Sargeras-US. We found the first crystal at ~12:30 AM Wednesday morning Nov 16 2016. This was only about 20 hours after the server reset, the other three I found were on Thursday night or later.

Okay, the lists in even the highest rated posts here are outdated and coords slightly off. I went to this site: http://lfh.worldofpunks.com/

Download the addon paste and get all coords in one go. Finally got the mount after 4th time seeing them crystals up. Took me 2 hours and 22 min. Only so long because I used coords off WoWhead postings first. Started using that sites coords after 1.5 hours. Got lucky and it was early in the morning and only a few people in the zone.

Got lucky on my 4th and last crystal. They were literally within' 100 yards of each other.

A few more locations that I found all of my crystals at, majority of them being new. Be prepared to run around with your head cut off, and don't rely to heavily on pre determined locations. I was lucky enough to come across one crystal, and decided "what the heck, can't take to long right?", 4 hours later...

The spawn points for crystals were:

/way 49.39 27.70 - by Azurewing Repose flymaster

/way 55.9 29.4 - next to the entrance of the building with Pridelord Meowl

/way 29.90, 26.55 - on the island

/way 54.5 33.5 - slightly off coordinates, but around basilisks

/way 63.38 46.14 - under tree not too far from level 110 zone

I was playing from a laptop with lowest possible settings (including view distance) and was worried I might overlook crystals, however, even at low settings they're seen very easily and from quite afar.

Don't give up if you die!

You can still go around and re-click the crystals you found before you died.

I clicked 4 crystals and died right after to fall damage. I went back around and clicked the same 4 and found the 5th and got the mount!

Can't believe how incredibly fast I found all 5 crystals. I was doing some questing in the area when I happened across #1 at 5:29PM EST, then decided to just "try my luck" in finding the other 4.

My hunt ended at 5:43PM with a new mount. I was amazed!

Locations for crystals were:
1) 43,32 at the base of a tree
2) 43,18 inside the cave
3) 54,33 in the shallow water by the basilisks
4) 56,39 just across the lake on the edge of the small island
5) 58,44 on the top of the cliff at the base of a tree

And this comes a week after bagging the Time-Lost Proto-Drake after over a week of near round-the-clock group camping!

Got it today after finding 4/5 crystals then spending 2 hours searching for the 5th. Crystals were as follows, found in this order:

47.2,62.4. On the side of a cliff next to a skrog elite

Roughly 54,23 behind a broken hut

49,33 on the side of a cliff, next to a river

40,33.5 next to a tree just outside of nor'danil wellspring

37.5,21 just south of the tower at the bottom of time-worn strand

Looks really outdated but I love it! Found 1st crystal during Oceanus Cove world quest.

Just helped a friend to get the Hippogryph less than 48 hours after we missed out last one:

/way 47.21, 33.21 - out in the open, close to the area where Farondis' soldiers fight with the naga

/way 50.5, 16.3 - between the trees next to a unicorn by the whelplands

/way 36.13, 23 - between the trees next to the road leading to Murloc PvP area

/way 56.93, 39.1 - on the edge of the water, very clearly seen from great distance

and last one:

/way 50.21 23.49 inside the Ley-hollow cave inside the middle of crystal formation, only the tip of the crystal was seen

More useful information:

1. While there are multiple spawn points for crystals, only five will spawn at a time.
2. If another player gets all five before you, you will receive an emote that says: You hear a faint caw in the distance, and then silence...
3. The respawn time is eleven hours. I can confirm this myself; every time they've spawned for me has been either 11 or a multiple of 11 hours apart.
4. Crystals can spawn underwater and in hostile NPCs' paths. I found one in an underwater Sea Skrog's path northwest of Nar'thala's Academy.

My story:
I was looking for crystals and queued for a dungeon. Midway through the instance, we all teleported out to repair and I found a crystal right next to me. After finishing the dungeon, I ran around for about two and a half hours and found three others. Soon after, however, I got the "You hear a faint caw in the distance" emote. I ran back to a known crystal spot, and sure enough, it had disappeared.

Hello everyone, I finally got mine last night at 4am. Here is my experience. I died twice I want to say, I left the area once, and dc'd once. It took me from 1:30am to 3:30am to find and click all 5 crystals. The only time i can say I needed to re click them was when I actually died. I'm not sure if more than one person can still click them or not, I did kill someone that I thought had clicked it but didn't (sorry mate) but I still got the mount after numerous flunks, and emerald winds failures. I can honestly say, dcing doesn't reset it so long as you immediately log back in, and leaving the area on accident isn't a big consequence so long as you return to it immediately. I stressed out really hard getting the crystals and I will say having a friend there to help and bringing some gliders will go a very long way, happy hunting and good luck!

does realm hopping screw over servers with crystals up ? i had 4 crystals pretty quickly not long after they spawned and i was searching for hours for the 5th but i just couldnt find it. i go back a few hours later and search to see if crystals were still up that i had already found but they had vanished. i kept an eye out on chat for zone message to see if the mount had been obtained by anyone but nothing either. i was wondering then if people who server hop and take the 5th crystal would u get a warning saying the mount was obtained or did i mess up and take too long finding it and they despawned in a few hours ?

Just received this beauty on draenor realm at 17:48PM 9 december on my hunter, if it was not for my amazing friend i wouldn't have gotten it :3

Also, i think i found a new location for the crystal, its at felblaze ingress at a tree log with a eredar caster at it, i will post coords later

Edit: 12 december at 15:29 we found another Hippogryph spawn! after trying to find the last 2 crystals( not on the ephermal crystal addon) for 2 hours we finally found them, the locations were :46.64, 53.74(On a tiny altar looking rock behind a bigger rock with bears around them) and 36.02, 23.00 at the road next to a tree(near the murloc pvp WQ)

Edit: apparently the 'altar stone' crystal spawns on a kirin tor barrel world quest :)

After another attempt on the hippogryph, we found 3/5 crystals when someone got it, apparently 2 of the crystals ARENT on the map of Handynotes_ephermal crystals.

More important information! Including spawn times!
1. Crystals spawn at the same time across all realms. When they vanish on one realm, all other realms also lose the crystals, even if they're not crossrealmed together. (Answer to those below: I was talking with a person from another realm, one that isn't crossrealmed with mine. Both of our realms got the crystals at the same time and both of our realms lost the crystals at the same time. It could have been coincidence, but those are pretty low odds.)
2. Crystals spawn every 11 hours!
—On Sunday at around 5:30 pm server they spawned.
—The following Wednesday at 5pm server, they were already up.
—The following Saturday, at about 11:30am server, they had recently spawned.
—On the following Sunday morning at 8:15 they had just spawned.
—That same Sunday night at 7:05 pm, they spawned.
—Someone who farms this frequently for other people says the respawn time is 10-12 hours.
3. I'd also like to confirm what people said about each crystal having its own aura. Someone I know got the mount by jumping crossrealms servers, and they got lucky, because it only took them 30 or so minutes that way. I also switched crossrealm servers while crystal hunting and found one, but couldn't click it. It must've had one of the auras I already got.

As a side note to obtaining the mount, all locations given from other users / TomTom should be used as a rough guide to where they are. I found that most of the crystals where just around that area marked while some where actually dead on.

So basically if your looking to farm this, try and look everywhere around each waypoint instead of just the waypoint it-self.

Admittedly, engineering helped for me also. I made it a point to head up to "high points" in Azsuna so I could scan for the crystals. Max draw distance in graphics settings helped. I was able to spot two of the crystals from up high and use cloak / glide over to them, instead of running with a ground mount.

Just got it @ Tarren Mill-EU! So happy!

Caught the emote earlier today in Azsuna's general chat, and promptly skimmed through these comments until I could find an estimation on the crystals' respawn timer. Calculated a respawn time table and looked at several screenshots on worldofpunk's webpage regarding this mount (not all, though) until I had to leave. Returned home, a wee bit later than scheduled - and hope plummeting - but having left my character by central Azsuna, in close proximity to a variety of crystal locales. Had a little stroll, and as luck would have it, found one out in the open overlooking Nar'thalas Academy. "Guess someone's at it by now", I thought, and carelessly continued the jaunt stopping at known spawn points, eventually finding another, within 2 minutes, inside a cave just below the Empyrean Society Enclave. Next stops were by the Operation Murloc Freedom pvp site, behind a derelict building; in Shipwreck Arena, inside the cave where all the forced gladiators are hanging out (not Oceanus Cove); and the last, where my heart skipped, just to west of the Ruined Sanctum, before reaching the ruins aflush with priestesses' ghosts and shadowfuries.

Took me about 45 min to find all the crystals, and considering the population of my realm, I presume myself pretty lucky. Perhaps it's because Christmas robbed people from much-desired playing time... Shout-out to Worldofpunk's website, specifically by amassing a great number of screenshots which invariably helped me memorise most places without needing TomTom (wanted to install it before, but having found the first two crystals I decided to carry on regardless).

Hello all!

I just got mine on Christmas Eve at 9PM EU time while I had realm-hopped to BleedingHollow use Cross Realm Assist Addon.
What a pleasant gift this beauty is! (^^,)
I also used Curse.com's HandyNotes Addons for this mount at https://mods.curse.com/addons/wow/handynotes_longforgottenhippo

I found my five crystals in less than two hours from starting my scout with my Demon Hunter.
To be able to Glide and do some Airborne scouting and to bypass most other obstacles was the ideal Class for me to go find the crystals.
Highly recommended to have Stonehide Leather Barding active while searching through the congested areas with mobs that can daze you.
While I had the HandyNotes Addon to show me where to look on my map, I also used TomTom waypoints to mark where I had found them if I had died and lose my crystal count.
That way, I'll be able to backtrack and touch the crystals I had found earlier and then resume my search for more...since my realm group and the BleedingHollow are PvP Realms...Precautions were absolutely necessary.

I used a Word Document to record the /way Azsuna X,Y coordinates for those that I had personally found to be used as future references should I still be searching.
The Handynotes Addon for this mount were sometimes more or less inaccurate at some markers where I had found the crystals myself. Hopefully the creator can one day adjust the markers for future users. He/she did an okay job producing the Addon. It did show me WHERE to generally search around.

The coordinates below I had recorded when I found a Crystal while in-game. The first five are the are the ones that I found and got the mount.

Guys, really important to add that, if you find some crystals on your realm but afterwards cannot find the last ones you're missing, just realm hop by finding someone listed on the Group Finder world questing on Azsuna and search more crystals on their realm. They might not be up, but there's many realms, so on some of them they will be up. Just remember that crystals have a number assigned to them, so if you found crystals 1, 2 and 3 on your realm, only crystals 4 and 5 will be clickable on the realm you hop to.

Hooray! After six hours of searching I got my Reins of the Long-Forgotten Hippogryph yesterday! These are the places I found Ephemeral Crystals:

55.54, 10.35 To the north of the Ley-Ruins of Zarkhenar on a grassy shelf

49.34, 31.61 Just south of Azurewing Repose near a boulder

40.48, 37.48 At the crossroads north of Illidari Stand

37.00, 21.59 Outside the southern-most building as you enter Timeworn Strand

43.03, 28.88 Llothien Highlands (west of Azurewing Repose), up the road and behind the tree next to Doomlord Kazrok

I got mine today on my first try while leveling my Priest.
Approximately around 03.00 AM (Danish time) on server Wildhammer i found the first..
The other 3 took me 4 hours to locate.
The last one was the hardest 'cause i overlooked the cave everytime i was running by.
I was done at 11:06 AM. So around 8 hours straight ( damn i was tired ).

I can confirm that if you die, you can run back and click them again ( i died 3 times lol )
I did not see any other crystals or people the first 4 hours, so that makes me think that there IS a pattern ( like everything else )

1 = 48,6-49,0 Shipwreck Arena close to the fighters.
2 = 53,6-35,4 In the deep water north of Academy.
3 = 61,9-54,9 Behind a tree on the hill west of Ruined Sanctum.
4 = 51,0-61,4 In the big cave you go through from Shipwreck arena to Oceanus Cove, near the exit by a little pond.
5 = 34,6-35,6 In a tiny cave near The Wellsprings, down on the road close to the water, right under the big stone formation.

Hi! just use this macro, so when you will mouseover the ephemeral crystal, you will have a sound and some writings. You also can use for the "Edge of Reality" of Voidtalon, just replace the "Ephemeral Crystal" in the macro by "Edge of Reality". In fact, you can even use it for every entity, like containers, chests etc...

I just got this today after stumbling across an Ephemeral Crystal. I came here. I used Lavandar's post above to make TomTom waypoint macros and started searching.

Tip!

Keep a pen and paper close by and write down the locations you find crystals at. This is important for two reasons: 1. If you die you have to start over and trying to remember where they were after an hour of running in circles is hard. 2. It'll keep track of how many you've gathered so far. I didn't get any buff/debuff stating how many I had while I was gathering.

You can run back to one of the ones you've discovered already to see if someone else got to 5 crystals before you. If it's there then keep searching. If it's not, better luck next time.There's an emote "You hear a faint caw in the distance and then silence…" that pops up when a player gathers 5 crystals but it can be easy to miss if concentrating on waypoints.

Took all morning, but I finally got it. The first four locations were on the macro list that someone compiled here, but the last was in a NEW LOCATION - /way 63.4, 46.2 which I just happened to run by. It is not the area with the Nightborn enemies but underneath the trees behind it near where the black unicorn is roaming. I died multiple times from jumping off cliffs before I realized that reset the crystals. I ran the macro list three times and then ran by the new spot by chance as I was about to give it up for the day.

I will post photos of the spots w/crystals, except for the last new one where it's just me standing because I got too excited to take a screenshot at the time. I went back just now though so I could document it for you guys.

When someone finds all the crystals, there will be an announcement in general chat that says "You hear a faint caw in the distance and then silence..." So if you see that then you know they all just reset.

I was doing the PvP Quest "Murlock Freedom" when I spotted a large shiny pink crystal, I logged wowhead strait away, followed the suggestions in the comments on how to find all the five crystals. Two and a half hours later I finally found the last cystal, after running several laps across the whole map of Azuna.

I highly recommend doing this as a shaman or hunter, since their uniqe far sight ability is a huge advantage. Hunters unlike shamans, need to macro their spell with an exclamation mark.

I found myself alone in Azsuna this morning before people stared to login, so I used the coord provided here and found 4 crystal within 40 min. Sadly after 5h of running around I couldn't find the last one so I decided to go on Discord and in 2 min I had Ebonyt from Ravenholdt EU helping me find the last crystal in a place I'd already inspected numerous time: the cave at Ruined Sanctum. I'm really thankful to him for helping me getting the mount!

Some crystals are really hidden around corners so you can easily miss them. For the hunt I'll advise to use a Demon Hunter for the glide or a Druid/Rogue for the stealth. They can give you an edge while checking the most dangerous spawn points or moving around landscape, reducing the chance of falling to your death. The Goblin glider will do the trick but it's not as versatile as DH's Glide. Good luck & Happy hunting.

Thank you so much NaThuRe! I found the hippogryph on my first attempt after ~1 hr of searching last night. I'm so happy, I thought it would be much harder but I was lucky the crystals were up on my server. It's so pretty.

I had been to every single spawn point listed in the first post and went to Wowhead looking for additionals. Found one with two new, and as I tabbed back into the game and turned around to head towards the first of those the crystal was just opposite me a few yards away. Fantastic!

I had been watching the crystals in Azsuna on Emerald Dream-US over the course of several days. First attempt was around 10am (est), only found 2/5 crystals (without using the TomTom addon or any other waypoint tracker.)

Second time, exactly 72hrs after first attempt (give or take, I believe it was around noon (est)) managed to find 4/5 crystals before someone else beat me to the 5th.

Third time, (again, 72hrs after the second attempt,) I decided to install the TomTom addon as well as the Paste addon (makes it way easier to pop in all the waypoint coordinates at once for TomTom) and found all 5 crystals in a little under 2hrs. This was even after dying to fall damage once because I'm an idiot, and retracing my steps for the crystals I had already gotten.

I don't know if this is typical, or if the crystals' spawn is shorter, but since I reliably found them 72hrs apart from each other, I'm going to suggest that anyone looking to track this mount at least start there.

Just got mine today :D A couple days before I had been looking for the crystals but didn't find any so I left... Today as I was mining on my alt I find a crystal at 68.2 24.3! So I quickly log on main (alt was not level capped) and spend the next hour and half looking for the other crystals. Last one alone took almost 30 minutes by itself to find.

Beautiful hippogryph! And became the first person in the server with it :D

For those of you concerned for what happens when you collect all 5 crystals (like I was), the hippogryph spawns on you as a friendly mob and you automatically get the mount dropped into your bag. You don't need to run anywhere, click or kill anything :)

Got this today on Burning Blade US.

Here are the coords for where I found each crystal:

40.27, 32.82 - leading up to the path where there's sometimes a Brimstone Destroyer for the mining world quest
35.97, 22.95
54.38, 25.98
61.13, 30.36 - inside a small cave
51.30, 76.32 - inside Oceanus Cove

At least 3 of these coords were not listed here anywhere but I was lucky enough to find them. My best suggestion is to first follow all road paths and be sure to look around and behind you as you go down the path to make sure you didn't miss one hidden behind a tree as you pass it. Then, if you still don't have them all, check inside all of the caves. Two of mine were in a cave, the other three were outside in the world.

Crystal placement seems to be RNG; they don't have to be spread across the zone. Just stumbled across all 5 in a tight arc from Ley-Ruins of Zarkhenar to Timeworn Strand. Four of the five were in spawn points right next to each other.

All crystals I've found so far, was totally random. Feels like if I go looking for them, I can't spot them at all :P
Saw my 1st one ever while doing wqs on tuesday, roamed around the zone, couldn't find the 2nd one so just started doing wqs on an alt.
1st one was still up, so picked it up just in case. Found 2nd one, again random by going to next wq. Started looking for them again, nothing :P So gave up eventually.

Saw 1 again today while doing wqs/archeo/treasure hunt. Kept my focus on treasures and archeo though, found 2nd one and noticed someone else was looking for them too. 3rd wasn't that far off so started looking again, following the map. Never found the 4th one and then the message "you hear a caw in the distance" popped up.
Ohwell, I'll try again another time :P

I can confirm that realm-hopping DOES work with this mount. I found 4 crystals and just couldn't find the last one, so I joined up a group that was doing another quest in Azsuna and managed to find the 5th one within 15 seconds. I clicked it, then had to go back and click all the other ones after leaving the group to get back to my own realm. It worked fine. Leaving the initial group or joining it did not reset my progress on the crystals, so you just have to have 5 TOTAL, regardless of what realm you hopped to.

On another note, finding the crystals a second time doesn't do anything extra; you just get another Reins that you cannot use or sell. :P

EDIT: A couple of caveats: the realm you are hopping to obviously must have the crystals still up in order for you to be able to find them, but I assume you know that is probably a no-brainer. The main point of this post was to inform others who may find 3 or 4 crystals but just cannot find the last 1 or 2.

Absolutely fell out of my chair when I found the first one, and quickly set about getting the remaining 4. Took me around 45 minutes to get them all. They were all somewhat close to each other which threw me off as I kept finding them quickly one after another without having to traverse the map too much.

I was on my rogue, and also had a Leatherworking-boosted Stonehide Leather Barding which really helped as I was running right through packs of mobs, although I never lingered enough for my Prydaz, Xavaric's Magnum Opus shield to expire and if I ever had to dismount while in combat I would have Vanish to quickly drop combat and mount again...

Being a Rogue really helped just in general.

Also I was lucky with mine in a sense, having the last one be underwater next to a pack of muclocs and patting giants. Made for a good picture:

just Got this Server transferred an unplayed alt to US-Nemesis (Brasilian server with low pop and almost no connected realms) for a much better chance than stormrage where everyone and there dog is searching for them...

I can confirm that Invasions don't affect the spawn of crystals, I was able to collect all 5 with Azsuna invasion up this morning on EU realm Mazrigos/Lightbringer(probably because everybody else was too busy with the invasion to notice them and realm-hopping addons were hugely nerfed).

Sadly i have no screenshot to offer proof because:
1, i own a potato-level laptop with lowest settings acceptable for wow that tends to freeze when i hit printscreen.
2, i was on an adrenaline rush.

Greetings!

Just got mine last night so I thought I'd put in a couple of tips.

First, make sure you get HandyNotes and the HandyNotes addon specifically for this mount (or an equivalent). They make life so much easier rather than just poking around by yourself or constantly swapping to youtube or an external map or something.

Ideally, search on a low pop/less connected realm if possible. Also try to do it at a time of day when people are sleeping or at school/work. On my first attempt, I was looking on Shadow Council around 9 am their time (my night is US early morning). There were only a few people also looking, but sadly when I got to 4/5 crystals, someone else got the mount. Next night, no crystals were spawned. Third night, as I collected the crystals it seemed that I was the only one looking, so choosing your realm/time to farm matters a lot (that's the night I got it).

Finally, don't get discouraged. My fifth crystal took a really long time, and when I finally found it, I realized the waypoint on the addon was a little bit off. My 4th crystal wasn't even marked as a waypoint at all (sorry, I didn't screenshot it b/c I didn't want to slow myself down at the time). Once you find your first crystal, don't stop till you've either got the mount or someone else has.

I got this tonight, got on my pink haired gnome warrior and took him to Darn so he could fly with his homies :)

I have wanted this mount since the first time i set foot in Darnassus on my first toon, a night elf hunter in wrath. This was my third try, the previous 2 times I got to four and heard the screech before I could get the fifth.

Thanks so much to everyone that figured this out and provided the coordinates, it only took an hour or so to get all 5, I'm so happy :D

The crystals for this mount can be seen from quite a view, if you look at the screenshot and look at the tree all the way over there you can see the crystal in the distance, and i believe that wasnt even the maximum distance, zoom in if you have trouble seeing it :)

Intresting bug occurred while i helped someone, we had only found 4 crystals yet she got the mount

Crystal 1 was at lothien next to the pridelord meow rare
Crystal 2 was at the Shipwreck arena inside the cave with the fighter show vendor
Crystal 3 was south of Nor'danil wellspring next to a tree
Crystal 4 was west of the felblaze ingress flight point behind a tree

i mainly play on alliance so if you are horde you could make a alliance demon hunter.

the only requirements are being above lvl 98 to unlock broken isles(and to survive in there ofcourse)
no need for flying as i have flying myself and a sandstone drake so i can carry you around ^^

After hours looking for it, i found my last crystal inside the cave called Gloombound Barrow, /way 64.1 52.9 (entrance). Its a little tricky to find it. Walk inside the cave to the center of the sigil on the ground and turn left. You will see a small entrance with a skeleton on the ground. You cant see it from outside the cave. I hope this will help.

I collected most of the waypoints posted here and bundled them together ready to use for the routes-addon. The route is best used if you can fly. There are some points multiple times (i took multiples of points if they were at least .5 coords away from another) and you won't really know if it's in a cave or not, but it was helpful enough for me that i could get 2 mounts (on 2 accounts) in 1 afternoon from 6 different servers.
