There are three new recipes, which help with leveling early Cooking:

Fancy Darkmoon Feast for 50 Darkmoon Daggermaw: Set out a great feast that will feed your party and dress them fancily (Gilneas fashion, awesome hat)! Restores 10% of health and mana every second for 10 sec and you will become Well Fed, increasing Versatility for 20 min. (Takes 10 Darkmoon Daggermaw, Requires Cooking 225)

Lemon Herb Filet for 10 Darkmoon Daggermaw: Restores 10% of your health and mana per second for 10 sec and you will become Well Fed, increasing Versatility for 20 min. (Takes 2 Darkmoon Daggermaw, requires Cooking 1)

Do farm them in pools, you can get 4-5 at once instead of one + Sealed Darkmoon Crate.

Shipwreck Debris pools give 1-2 casts, each cast has 100% Sealed Darkmoon Crate drop with guaranteed 1 x Darkmoon Firewater in it, and 2-4 Darkmoon Daggermaw along the crate.

Fishing in open water gives 1 fish each cast, and occasionally Bloated Threshers (that do not stack) with 4-10 fish in it.

Stacking Darkmoon Firewater buffs on yourself does not affect cast/bite speed.

So I put together what I think to be a relatively easy to follow guide on the new fishing additions to Darkmoon Faire from 6.2.

I go through how long it took me to farm 360 fish, what else you can catch as well as provide a simply guide for the Faded Treasure Map and display the rewards.

You can also fish up Darkmoon Fishing Cap. It has a one hour cooldown for spawning pools of debris. You will get a random number of Darkmoon Daggermaw from each pool. I was able to get 2 casts before the pool disappeared.

You can get a Bloated Thresher that will drop like 1-30 gold I don't know the exact amount but it will have gold and like 8-11 oh these fish

Darkmoon Daggermaw can be fished up in the waters surrounding Darkmoon Island. Here are some notes about catching these fish:

These fish can be caught from open water OR pools
When fished from open water, you get one per cast, unless you fish up a Bloated Thresher (a rare catch), containing gold and 5-10 Darkmoon Daggermaw
Fishing in pools of Shipwreck Debris will yield multiple Darkmoon Daggermaw (typically 2-5), along with 1 Sealed Darkmoon Crate per cast. Pools usually despawn after 1-2 casts.
While the fish are the currency for items sold by Galissa Sundew, they can also be eaten (for mana and health, they do not grant a buff) or cooked into various dishes that grant a versatility buff (the recipes for which are purchased from Galissa!).

Galissa Sundew (Fishing Prizes) is at the Darkmoon Faire. She is located at (52, 88) - beside the left dock ramp, under the reddish awning.

All of the the items sold by Galissa Sundew are listed below:

Note that 1 of these potions is guaranteed to be inside each Sealed Darkmoon Crate, which can be fished up from pools of Shipwreck Debris around Darkmoon Island, or rarely can be fished up from open water. This is by far the more efficient way of obtaining these potions!

Decided to check how long it will take to farm 50 of these (since most of the items bought with them are divisable by it and cost 25/50/100 fish. (obviously the drop rates are off on here as they were only introduced in 6.2)

Tested in open waters as wanted to see how it compares to running around for the pools. Fished up a total of 2500 fish and it took 451 minutes and 52 seconds (averaging out at 9 minutes 3 seconds for each 50) The amount of time varies greatly the quickest took me 4 mins 4 seconds and the longest 13 minutes exactly - to get all the items/recipes/pets will take around an hour (approx 65 minutes) so while it may seem like a bit of a grind its pretty painless!

tested from fishing pools have a smaller amount done but the numbers speak for themselves. Fished up a total of 1000 fish and it took 263 minutes and 53 seconds (averaging out at 13 minutes 12 seconds for each 50). The numbers are far from consistant (less so than open water) the quickest took me 7 mins 7 seconds and the longest 25 mins and 52 seconds, there is an added bonus of the crates from the fishing pools (was getting approx 60-80 an hour) but considering it takes half as much time again on average and is pretty inconsistant depending on competition at the time if just after fish / fishing for gold I would recommend fishing in open waters.

Yesterday i decided to get all the new items from Galissa Sundew. I spent approximately 75 minutes to farm Darkmoon Daggermaw and I've got 400x of them (400x includes the amount i got from catching Bloated Thresher). Also i caught 1x Sea Pony and 18x Sealed Crate.

for summary: To catch 1x Darkmoon Daggermaw you need 11,3 sec (average)
To catch 50x Darkmoon Daggermaw you need 9.4 minutes (average)

To clarify, This Numbers are counted from my case. It may be different for you, depending on your luck

It's probably obvious, but buying these from the AH is a great way to get some easy and quick heirlooms, companions or toys through Faded Treasure Map. 100 Daggermaws needed for the map usually cost 500-750g, the quest can only be done once on any character above level 15 and takes under 3 minutes if you know the locations. If you just want to earn some gold, you could buy companions and easily sell them for at least 3-4k profit, the Darkmoon Zepplin is pretty good atm going for 5-7k

With ze donut and max fishing(not sure if it even affects), you average 5.2 fish/minute. Depending on the weather, time of day and the tie you're wearing on how many bloated fishies you get.

So to get all items, all you need to do is to get comfortable and fish at the dock for 69 minutes(probably just an hour) and you're done as it were.

For a fishing price, this is rather low effort and a perfect way to finish leveling alt fishings.

in the current PTR build, daggermaws are harder to fish up. My lvl 30 toon with fishing skill of 250 was catching mostly trash. Hopefully this won't carry over to the live server, but just in case, get all your heirlooms now.

It seems there have been some changes to the skill required to fish up Darkmoon Daggermaws. I started fishing today and got my first fish at 115 skill. Before that you only get junk like Driftwood Empty Clam Torn Sail. The higher the fishing skill, the higher the chance of catching the Daggermaw.

Also, the quest item Great Sea Herring only drops when you catch a Daggermaw, fishing up the grey items don't get you a quest item.
Sad news for alts in need of Darkmoon tickets :(

If you're at low fishing skill trying to farm these, it's worlds easier to walk the coast and find the Shipwreck Debris, you'll get 3-5 Daggermaw and a crate of potions, food, and silver once or twice per node.

I fished up 350 Daggermaws to get the assorted stuff from the vendor, and ended up with 17x Sealed Darkmoon Crate and 24x Bloated Thresher.

Droprate on the threshers looks to be pretty decent, and they opened to give me an additional 163x Darkmoon Daggermaw and ~484g

For those of you fishing for the new Darkwater Skate mount (releases in 7.1), I thought I would share the current drop rates for max skill fishing. I was fishing at skill level 1020 (800 skill, fishing artifact, Nat's Drinking Hat, Oversized Bobber) for exactly one hour, in open water with zero pools/debri and heres the dump:

Total Casts: 251

Darkmoon Daggermaw: 225 (89.6%)
Sealed Darkmoon Crate: 12 (4.8%)
Bloated Thresher: 12 (4.8%)
Tugboat Bobber: 1 (0.4%)
Sea Pony: 1 (0.4%)

Total Darkmoon Daggermaw after opening Thresher's and Crate's: 316

I didnt bother using Worm Supreme for an extra 50 skill points, because it just seemed like a waste of gold and non-benefical.

Almost all comments here say fishing these in open water on Darkmoon Island is practically 100%, but I'm mostly only fishing up grays. Is there a trick to this I didn't get a memo for?

Confirmed catchable at at least 10 skill level. However, I will be working tonite to confirm at what exact skill level Darkmoon Daggermaw become a 100% catch rate (not including rare catches like Sea Pony, Darkmoon Crates, or Bloated Threshers). I started from an alt this morning with 0 fishing and have worked throughout the day. I was able to catch three non-consecutive Daggermaw before hitting skill level 150, one very low (below 50 skill level).

Currently at 165 skill - not 100% yet, still grey trash mostly. I've fished roughly the same number of Darkmoon Crates (3-5 so far).

Update: Currently at 200 skill - not 100% yet.

Will continue tomorrow with updates.

Got bored. Started again tonight. At 206. Still not getting the fish every time. Still very rarely.

Earned bunch of gold by selling these on AH (besides buying the mount and pet), but now the prices are falling and I`m thinking is it worth to catch the fish, store it and get it on sale when the next fair starts.

I thought it'd be a great idea to park my level 15 with level 1 fishing at the dmf to profit off of darkmoon daggermaws. After a good hour of getting 98% trash drops, I tried doing a little research.
I couldn't find much about what fishing skill was needed to get 90%+ daggermaw's, so I decided to do a little testing. Husband was fishing next to me with skill of 860 and was receiving 100% daggermaw droprate. Up until about skill 200, I hardly got any daggermaw's. Went and beefed up my fishing skill to 410 and received the following over 20 minutes:

50 skill-ups (so ended at skill 460)
45 Darkmoon Daggermaw
3 Bloated Thresher (unopened)
45 Vendor trash items
2 Sealed Darkmoon Crate
1 Fishing pool spawned nearby
--------------------------------------------------
+/- Half Daggermaw's, Half vendor trash

Tldr: <200 fishing skill=mostly garbage, 400-450 skill is about half Daggermaws, half trash. Good luck fellow fishers!

If you have a water-walking buff or mount, or buy a water-walking potion, making a quick round around the island every now and then (taking breaks to let new pools spawn) can actually be beneficial. Don't rely entirely on fishing from the debris pools, but if you're fishing at a time where there's not too much competition, mixing it up by patrolling the shores every so often can overall be profitable in terms of Daggermaws caught.

Thanks to the drop rate, I'm still getting mostly gray trash at 483 fishing. Started using one char because she already had 200 Daggermaw in her bank; starting to think it'd be faster to switch to the char with max fishing, though I only have about 70 Daggermaw on that server. :|

Edit: At 485, the ratio changed. I'm still getting grays, but they're much rarer; I'd say one out of five casts is a trash item. Not perfect, but it's a good level to aim for.

Edit again: Past 500, I'm getting almost exclusively daggermaws. There's still trash, but it's a high enough ratio that if it were up to me, I'd say that would be the minimum to aim for if someone decides to farm fish.

(Of course, by 'daggermaw', I do mean those, plus the occasional thresher and crate, of course.)

Another edit: By the time I got to 500 Daggermaw, I hit 600 in fishing. Grays still show up, but incredibly rarely. Makes me wonder what the 100% level is. At that point, it took me five minutes to catch 20 fish, so an average of four fish a minute.

As I'm on my way to 250 mounts, I decided to give the skate a try. I'm not a fan of fishing, but farming those turned out to be not as bad as I expected :) At the beginning I had skill of ~350. I fished the Daggermaw every 2-3 casts, the first spot I tried at was the small isle south of the Island - I didn't want to disturb those fishing at the port.
I got bored as hell after 20 minutes, and I had approximately 80 daggermaws in my bag, so I decided to look for pools. And this turned out to be much less boring, maybe not more efficent than fishing in open water, but equally efficent, I'd say. A run around the isle took ~15 minutes, I encountered 6-10 pools each run; I fished up countless crates, 5 treshers, one Sea Pony.
After buying the mount, I picked up the fishing quest for herrings, after completing it I decided to fish some daggermaws up to sell them. I saw three pools close to each other, so I used them. And the last one contained the Sea Turtle :D I have tried to farm her long ago, but quickly gave up.

So, I ended up with skill of 458, two mounts, and a companion. I was using the basic fishing pole, and a hat lure (Weather-beaten fishing hat). If you are not a fan of fishing who doesn't feel like standing in one place for few hours, I recommend trying this way out :)

Did some calculations to see how long it would take to farm a full stack of 200. I have a fishing skill of 700+. Keep in mind that your chance to catch a Darkmoon Daggermaw is much higher at a higher fishing skill. I'd say around 500+, you catch one almost every time. However, while fishing at the Darkmoon Faire, you have a good chance of getting your fishing skill up.

For 20 casts, the average time it took to catch a Darkmoon Daggermaw was 13.55 seconds. The total amount of time was 271 seconds, or 4.5 minutes. We can extrapolate and calculate that it would take approximately 45 minutes of constant fishing to catch 200 Darkmoon Daggermaw. However, this time can change if you fish up Bloated Threshers (which gives you more fish), or Sealed Darkmoon Crates (which don't give you any fish). Out of the 20 casts I made, 2 of them resulted in me fishing up a Sealed Darkmoon Crate.

If your fishing skill is rather low, I recommend running around the rim of the island and fishing at the fishing pools that randomly spawn. These will always give you Darkmoon Daggermaw and a Sealed Darkmoon Crate. This is how I amassed a large collection of fish before my fishing skill was high enough to guarantee a Darkmoon Daggermaw every cast.

Started fishing these up the last time Darkmoon Faire was around to level my fishing. At first I used my catch to buy stuff from the vendor. Then I sold the rest on the AH. When I realized how much fish I could sell, how fast and the profit I could make... I began taking up farming these bad boys as a means of making some money when the Faire is in town.

I currently have maxed out fishing skill at level 800. When you apply the "Day Old Darkmoon Doughnut" to your pole, it grants you an additional +200 skill for 10 minutes. I decided to do an experiment and see how I fared fishing both with the Doughnut and without it. I fished for 1 hour- 30 minutes without the doughnut, then 30 minutes with. Here are my results:

I fared much better fishing with the doughnut. I caught a few less Daggermaw, but eventually made up for it with the bloated threshers. I also was able to loot more gold from the threshers. Depending on your server, you may be able to make a nice chunk of change selling your loot on the Auction House. I tend to just vendor it because none of it sells on my server.

The only thing that really sells is the Darkmoon Daggermaw. I sell them in stacks of 100 and can get anywhere from 1800-3000g for each stack. Of course, those prices are server and time dependent. You might be able to get more, you may get less. And of course you can sell in smaller stacks or larger, but 100 seems to sell pretty well on my server. Play around and see what works for you.

Since the fishing changes in 8.0 (fishing caps at 100), I seem to be catching a lot fewer fish than I remember and certainly fewer than people are reporting in comments from preceding patches. My fishing skill is 100 + 15 from Underlight Angler + 10 from Day-Old Darkmoon Doughnut = 125
After 400 throws, Fishing Buddy reports:

82 Darkmoon Daggermaw
8 Sealed Darkmoon Crate
2 Bloated Thresher
1 Tugboat Bobber
307 failed catches (grey junk items)

It feels sort of like they forgot to bring Darkmoon Island out of the 1-700 range and into the new 1-100 range.

the day-old donut lure you can buy from fishing prizes vendor does not currently increase your chance to catch daggermaw. Fishing at darmoon island is more than likely broken right now due to the changes to professions and hasnt been fished yet....OR...working as intended if they wanted the daggermaw catch rate to be significantly lower.

Not sure what happened but was fishing for these while doing bgs for a few hours to help my friend get the mount and I had noticed the reduced drop chance BUT all of a sudden at around 11:30pm ST We come out of a bg and started getting daggermaw every cast again o,0 Don't know why maybe a hotfix or some other reason..

Darkmoon Faire Island now requires Fishing rank 150 to avoid catching junk (was 600).

The daggermaw can be fished for all around the Darkmoon faire. It can be exchanged for prizes at the faire which includes a mount. Also depending on the server your on, they will fetch a nice price on the auction house during this time. If you have maxed out fishing skill, this is a 100% drop rate, either the fish, crate, pet or bloated thresher will drop. If you don't have maxed out fishing skill, and you still want to get the rewards, you have 2 options in my view:

1) Buy a fishing bait for any of the legion rare fish, get some rare fish and throw them in the water (they got nerfed from 50 skill down to 5, still the best way to level up I know of).

2) Buy these fish off the auction house. I've checked in 2 realms, Wyrmrest Accord and Stormrage. In WrA they're at 8.5g each and in Stormrage they're at 15g, so it's not ridiculously overpriced either way. The pet is fairly cheap too.

To be clear, the drop rate of these fish is based on your Vanilla (classic WoW) fishing skill. At around level 100 Vanilla fishing skill they start to drop a lot more often. Hope this helps.

I came trying to find out the skill required to fish this without getting trash but didn't find exact information, so I'm leaving my feedback instead.

I do this with 8-9 alts every week so I have some certainty that at 125 fishing you get the fish consistently, even if still getting some trash now and then. I have also gotten trash with max fishing so it might not be avoided entirely, but I think 125 is your mark to get to (including fishing lure and any other effect you can stack).

OH ho HO ladies and gentlemen, whilst embarking on this fishing journey I, a novice fisherman, discovered a few things myself.

I began at fishing level 45 and found I would mostly fish up trash and get a darkmoon daggermaw every 2-3 casts from open water, which isn't horrible but took a while.
It took me about 2 and a half hours just to get 200 fish (and simultaneously reach level 150 fishing). I would alternate between fishing in open water and from the wreckage pools that spawn on the shore of the island. I got about 30 sealed darkmoon crates from these wreckages and opened those to receive a delightful item, the one and only DARKMOON FIREWATER.
(note, i only ever fished up darkmoon daggermaw and trash from open waters, and crates + 2-5 daggermaw from wreckages)

I got 33 of these magical resource-gathering-intensifying vials (which you can sell/buy on the AH btw) from the crates and decided to use one just to try it out. I thought they might be kinda trash since I got so many of them but no, no, no. In one hour I began to catch a darkmoon daggermaw EVERY cast, save for the measly TWO times I caught trash and of course the 14 times I caught sealed darkmoon crates (in OPEN WATERS) and the MAGNIFICENT 15 times I caught a bloated thresher! These bloated threshers award 5-10 daggermaw each and I didn't receive a single one prior to using the firewater.

Henceforth, in the one hour of using Darkmoon Firewater, I had caught 230 daggermaws plus another 118 from the bloated threshers, a couple of severed fish heads, 2 tugboat bobbers and 1 sea pony companion pet. So if you want that darkwater skate mount FAST (e.g. in 2 hours), or if you just want to make some money by selling daggermaws, or whatever you need to fish up those little weasels for, please get yourself a couple of crates from the wreckages first, get that sweet, sweet firewater, and do what you gotta do.

P.S. I got 14 more of those godly darkmoon firewaters from the 14 crates I fished while under the influence of one.

I decided to fish up enough darkmoon daggermaw to buy myself the mount. I started at close to 0 fishing skill.

These fish can be caught inside and outside pools. At lower fishing skill however, only the pools are reliable.

From 0-50 skill I only got 1 daggermaw to drop and the rest were junk items.

By the time I reached 133 skill I had 18 successes, and 75 failures. (ignoring pools, which were all successes, regardless of fishing skill).

Between 133 skill and 184 skill, I had 69 successes and 19 failures (again ignoring pools).

It took around 3 hours (or 4 episodes of the expanse) for me to fish up enough of these to buy the mount.

No idea when the change happened but these now restore a fixed amount of health and mana instead of 5% of each per sec. This used to be the best food you could send to alts - used at any level, stacked to 200, and the healing/mana scaled with you

Just buy a bunch off the AH. 500 for the aquatic mount at (on my realm) 7g each. so much faster than fishing them up imo. :)

As of 11/3/2024, here's what's happening with Darkmoon Fair fishing.

My Classic Fishing is at 157. I'm using the Draconium Fisherfriend. Daggermaw catch rate is about 100% fishing in open water.

Fishing here does NOT level up Classic Fishing. I have fished 50 times without a single level-up. Unsure if this is a bug or intentional.

EDIT: I came here with a character that has 0 Fishing skills in any expac just to test further, as my later assumption was that it wasn't giving skill ups due to me being overlevelled for the zone. He has no fishing gear and I used no fishing skill items. No fishing skill ups occurred, but Daggermaw catch rate is still basically 100%. It seems this is no longer a skill-based activity as Daggermaw loot rate is about 1 per cast, unless you also fish up some threshers, which contain several fish.

While this post was downvoted for some reason, it is not inaccurate information as of 11/4/2024 and if you come here with the sole purpose of leveling your fishing skill based on recommendations from external sources, you will not be able to do so. The recommendation that this is a great zone to level fishing is now outdated; instead, the only purpose is to give you an activity to unlock some cosmetics or sell these fish on the AH.

Before someone makes the same mistake that I did, these are NOT usable in Mythic+ Keystones. I believe this is because Darkmoon Daggermaw is tagged as a "Tradeskill" item rather than as a "Consumable" item. However, I submitted a bug report since this may not be working as intended.
