For Alliance (in the PTR as of 13 January 2015) sold by Krom Stoutarm in the Library of Hall of Explorers in Ironforge.

Cost is 950 gold at Friendly rep and the NPC is affiliated with Ironforge which indicates it will probably be discounted with rep.

How is it used? I've tried the usual way installing gems, but it just makes more copies in my bags. I right click on the copy in my bag, it equips the item. left click picks it up, shift right/left click nothing, ctrl left opens the dressing room, ctrl right does nothing, alt left/right does nothing in the bags. same results in the heirloom window with the exception that right and left clicking creates a copy in my bags. Clicking on the Ancient heirloom Scabbard turns my mouse into a glowing hand with a pointing index finger, but does nothing when clicked on the item either in my bag or in the heirloom window.

This token is used to upgrade all heirlooms (apart from weapons) to scale to level 35. It can only be used once as it is consumed when applied to an heirloom in your Collections tab. Note that while it is not included in the tooltip, you can also use it on rings and necklaces!

It is permanently sold by Estelle Gendry (H) and Krom Stoutarm (A) for 500g, by Galra (H) and Liliana Emberfrost (A) for 12 Mark of Honor and by Dame Evniki Kapsalis at the Argent Tournament for 55 Champion's Seals. It is also one of the rewards from a quest chain, which is given at lvl 100 by Drix Bassbolter (H) and Fix "Smallie" Biggswrench (A) at your tier 3 Garrison.

Finally, it can also be obtained during several world events:
- Darkmoon Faire: Sold by Daenrand Dawncrest for 100 Darkmoon Prize Tickets.
- Lunar Festival: Sold by Fariel Starsong in Moonglade for 40 Coin of Ancestry.
- Midsummer Fire Festival: Sold by Midsummer Merchant (H) and Midsummer Supplier (A) for 350 Burning Blossoms.
- Hallow’s End: Sold by Chub (H) and Dorothy (A) for 250 Tricky Treats.
- Timewalking events: Sold by Cupri (TBC), Auzin (WotLK), Kiatke (Cata), Mistweaver Xia (MoP) and Tempra/Kronnus (WoD) - depending on event - for 750 Timewarped Badges.

If you're missing some heirlooms, the two faction vendors sell most of them for gold:

Currently on 6.0.3 live servers, guild vendors sell the following:

Cloaks (1-85) - 1,200g
Head (1-85) - 1,500g
Legs (1-85) - 1,750g

All of these pieces will automatically upgrade to 1-90 tokens when 6.1 releases.

On the PTR as of 2/8/15, guild vendor prices are:

Cloaks (1-60) - 500g
Head (1-60) - 500g
Legs - ? For some reason the PTR guild vendor doesn't sell the leg heirlooms.
Armor Casing (upgrade armor heirloom to 1-90) - 1,000g or 100 Darkmoon Prize Tickets

So if you're only interested in getting the 35 heirlooms needed for the achievement to unlock the chauffeur mount, you're definitely better waiting until 6.1 when you can just get the 1-60 heirlooms for 500g each.

If you absolutely want to own everything at 1-90, it appears that helmets are cheaper on 6.0.3 live (1,200g compared to paying 500g + 1,000g for the upgrade). Cloaks are exactly the same price (1,500g = 500g + 1,000g). I couldn't find the leg heirlooms for some reason on PTR, but if they cost the same initial 500g then they would be cheaper on 6.1.

Also worth noting is that instead of paying 1,000g for the token that upgrades a 1-60 armor heirloom to 1-90, you could instead do Darkmoon Faire and pay 100 Darkmoon Prize Tickets instead. If you go that route it's more effort, but definitely cheaper in terms of gold since you only need to pay the initial 500g.

Keep in mind, prices may change when 6.1 goes live.

Does anyone know if the heirloom upgrades work with the heirlooms from archeology which typically come as fixed equipment level rather than a variable character level sliding scale?

Can I presume (in any case) that the heirlooms from archeology will also go in the heirloom tabs and be 'duplicateable' across all characters in my account?

It says that it BOA. I know that heirlooms now go into a tab along with mounts, pets, etc. But when I bought the casing with the express purpose of giving it to my girl on another server, I cannot seem to do that and it has not shown up in the heirloom tab. Anyone know how I can get this to my girl on the other server?

Not obvious from the layout of the Heirlooms tab (but makes sense if you recall how WoW categorizes the items in the Auction House, for example), the two shields and the one offhand item are armor, not weapons, and require this item, not the scabbard.

The vendor should allow you to trade in a sum of these for a level 100 Timeworn one. I upgraded all my sub-90 heirlooms with Darkmoon Faire Prize Tickets because I had a stockpile of them on multiple toons. Now that I'm making progress on the Mystery Notebook questline I'm starting to amass a collection of these with nothing to use them on.

Really wish these (all the upgrade tokens) would stack... due to the heirloom upgrade items becoming available earlier from DMF tickets (and many of them being grandfathered in at the 1-90 level), doing the mystery notebook questline on numerous alts will end you up with a cartload of these that just take up ridiculous amounts of bank space for some poor dejected alt until more heirlooms are released.

I know that they're intended to be used asap, but many of us do not have any heirlooms yet to use them on for now, but it'd still be folly to just destroy them since they can become useful (or possible to trade in for something else) in the future...

First of all, you will need minimum 3900 gold to get the starter heirloom set which will gives you a boost till reach level 60 (+you will need a guild too, to get some of them which are listed below):

As of a few weeks into patch 9.0.2, there is currently a bug preventing this item from being used to upgrade Defending Champion (obtained through looting the Arena Treasure Chest in the Gurubashi Arena 13 times on the same character).
