Stanley is a little dog in the back left of Hillsbrad Fields, head to the back left and you should see the yellow dot for where he is. When you turn in the quest he turns into a level 24 monster, make sure to kill him as he gives 700 exp or so when killed.

Doing this quest while rested is a very good idea. I got 2000+ xp from killing the dog at level 25, 1000 or so of that from rested XP. Not to mention the 1500 XP from doing the quest itself.

On lvl 31 the exp is still 650 (+ 50 exp rested) when you kill Stanley

As of 2.3, i got 1450 from completing the quest, and 1150 (Non-rest) from killing Stanley

If you remember where Farmer Ray was in the house, there was a little dog named Stanley there, that is where you gotta take the Elixir and have him drink some of it and make sure to kill him because you will get a lot of EXP for killing him. If you dont know where he is or Farmer Ray, they are in the back left corner of Hillsbrad Fields.

While Farmer Ray was on the second floor of the house (I almost got him to flop onto the bed when he died, dang it), Stanley was down below, just outside the door of the house -- where one might expect a pet dog to be. Other than a patrolling Footman, or possibly Citizen Wilkes, coming down the path, there are no other mobs within aggro range of a 26-ish PC at this position. So if he spawns here you can complete the quest without unexpected adds, as long as you watch the path.

The Quest Elixir of pain is bugged. I gave the elixir to the dog but a huntard in the vicinity tagged the dog first and killed him. I didnt get the kill and I cant turn in the Q. I cant abandon the Q and start over again either since the Q is not in my Qlog anymore.

Moral of the story: Hunters are morons and Qs are bugged.

Make sure you tagg the dog asap!

You don't actually have to kill the "Enraged Stanley" to complete the quest. I fed him, he killed me, I thought I hadn't completed it. I ran all the way back to Tarren Mill and couldn't re-get the quest. I didn't notice that I had completed the quest, but all you need to do is feed the doggy. :) I was lvl 22 at the time though, with low health.

He has his own little dog house. ^^

After you complete it wait 5 seconds and kill the dog it gives 1,175 exp a nice bonus

Ah, nothing like the smell of fresh blood in the foothills!

Now we'll mix in a touch of this and a little of that and let the real fun begin! What I have created with this blood, I like to call an Elixir of Pain. If my calculations are correct this concoction could be the start of something very beautiful for Lady Sylvanas. But what we need is a test.

Take this elixir out to the northern farm in Hillsbrad Fields to the southwest. Let's see how Farmer Ray's little dog Stanley likes this "treat."
