Since the quest doesn't give you much besides XP, I'd say don't bother doing this one. Keep the trinket instead, because yes, you have to turn the trinket in as part of the quest.

myself i'd finish the quest, besides the trinket really isnt good for much other then fighting rogues (they cant vanish if you use this trinket) id at least finish it later on in the game) this here isnt based on any actual facts but just perhaps this quest will be continued later, maybe in the "emerald dream" expansion. if that ever happens. allthough i love having a trinket that speaks to me, but poor erakinus it hurts him. :'(

sure the trinket is good for the level but honestly. its not THAT good, it ticks for like? 50 per5 over 45 seconds. wich makes 9 ticks with 50dmg = 450dmg over 45 seconds, also when is the last time you used 45 seconds to kill a mob? (unless youre a healadin or holy priest, reso shaman/druid? :p)
maybe use the trinket a bit while youre leveling, then once you get a replacement, go finish the quest. at least stop hurtin my dragon bro erakinus :s

the only reason why i would keep the trinket is purely for the fact that this is an incomplete quest chain.

i wouldn't doubt that if they ever did make an emerald dream expansion they would expand on this quest and i wouldnt want to be one of those who decided to have experience rather than a cool artifact.

Ok...so I have a problem....I had this when I was a low level and had no use for it so I either vendored it or destroyed it...I forgot wich...is there any way I can get a new Chained Essence of Eranikus so I can do this quest? I discovered it just recently and am really intrested in doing this quest.

Help me please :(

im 80 and doing the Loremaster Achievement.. this sound like blizzard have *!@#ed us over again.. who will save all there rewards for someday use them... there must be some way to get this item back...

I can't remember, it's been awhile, but I think I was able to pick one of these up again after destroying it by interacting with the font behind Eranikus, rather than trying to get it to drop from Eranikus himself. I think I was able to, at a high level, interact with the font without even fighting Eranikus.

I could be misremembering though. Worth a try.

If you've done the quest for this already, and vendored or deleted your Chained Essence of Eranikus, you can ask a GM for a new one, but it wont drop a second time because it's a quest reward and you can only do the quest once.
I just explained my case in the page and a few days later it was in my mailbox :)

I just opened ticket for this quest. I remember i tried to do this quest million years ago, but no luck, so now i picked it up again and opened a ticket :D but instead of reward, i ask for The chained essence of eranikus. Lets wait and see whut GM will tell me :)

Ok so GM told me, that iv done the first part long time ago and puted "chained essence of eranikus" in my mail. Thats it :D

To get the Oathstone of Ysera's Dragonflight you need to have in your inventory the Chained Essence of Eranikus, not the Essence of Eranikus; i.e. you must have completed the quest at the font in the Chamber of the Dreamer where the dragon resides. Talk to him and pick gossip option #2. Listen to his story and the Oathstone will appear in your inventory when you've clicked thru all the pages of his speech.

I had the Pietra del Giuramento dello Stormo di Ysera in my bank still, so I decided to see if I could still use it to take the quest. I was able to accept it, but when I then abandoned it, the Oathstone disappeared. I guess I'm done! At least I still have the Essenza Incatenata di Eranikus, and some Emblema della Battaglia di Halaa to look like the former in my bank.
