Yeah, it's an optional quest with very little rewards but at least you get something for it. For those wondering, he's in Tinker Town in Iron Forge at 70,48.

is this quest still around? i dont see it when i go to Gaxim, but both wowhead and everyquest says i havent completed it...

I believe this is a breadcrumb quest which is no longer available when Data Rescue is accepted.

Master Mechanic Castpipe in Ironforge has need of adventurers! He's organizing bands to reenter Gnomeregan on a data retrieval mission of top security and importance.

Castpipe might not be a member of the Enlightened Assembly of Arcanology, Alchemy and Engineering Sciences like I am, but he's still a smart gnome so if he thinks it's important, then by my calculations there's an eighty-four percent probability that it really is important!

Those are good odds!
