If you can alt-tab out and back quick, here's a list at a glance. This is facing the alchemist standing in the doorway. Also note the icon of the buff you get, for in most cases it looks similar to the item that you need at that moment.

There's an ingredient missing on that list, namely Crystallized Hogsnot. It's on the right side only.

Extremely annoying quest. I had 10 minutes on the patrol timer when I started this and I blew all of it by repeatedly failing to turn in the ingredients on time, partly because I never ever found it. Make a note of which ingredients are exclusive to one side (the list above helps). Also note that taking an ingredient takes an absurd 5 seconds off the precious 45s timer, so be prepared to pop any movement cooldowns to beat the timer. It appears that you need 6 ingredients to complete the serum.
For the items on the highest shelf hop on a box and you should get it.

Mage - Blink
Warrior - Intervene (get a friend)
Druid/Rogue - Dash/Sprint
Warlock - Demonic Circle - plant the circle in front of Alchemist Finkelstein. You can teleport through the walls because it ignores LOS.

A precise guide to where certain items are - made out of my frustration, made to save you countless repetitions of this INITIALLY fun quest.

When I name a cardinal direction, refer to the compass in the minimap. Or if you somehow do not have that available, think of it this way: the north wall in the left room is closest to the cauldron while the south wall in the right room is closest to the cauldron.

There may sometimes be multiple shelves per side. If such is the case, I will refer to them as either left or right as you're looking in that particular cardinal direction.

Shelf numbers aside from the top and bottom will be enumerated. Top shelf is will be called as such, second highest is 2, third highest is 3, and the bottom is the bottom, obv.

Note that this is NOT an exhaustive list. Some items will also be placed in locations aside from what is listed.

I hate this quest so much. I want to destroy Alchemist Finklestein.

I want to put him in a rocket and launch him into the Sun.

I want to hold his face in a bag of Muddy Mire Maggots while shouting, "WHAT INGREDIENT DID YOU NEED! I CAN'T UNDERSTAND YOU WITH ALL THOSE MAGGOTS IN YOUR MOUTH!"

I want to fill his cauldron with orange juice and gasoline, then offer to light his cigar.

I want to coat his underwear with Ben-Gay and Tiger Balm.

I want to tell his mother that he has stomach cancer.

I hate him.

In 3.0.8, this quest became slightly easier in the sense that it takes nothing but a second to loot the items now (as is the case with most quest items). Arguably, finding them is the hard part, but at least you won't waste as much time on picking them up once you have done so!

One of the best dailies ever, it took me a while to complete it the first time, first because I didn't realize I had to drop the stuff in the cauldron, and then because I was still learning the place of everything, but now that I know the place like the palm of my hand it's really easy and fun.
