launched five years ago on August 30, 2016. Featuring many crowd-pleasing elements such as the return of Illidan and the acquisition of powerful artifact weapons like Ashbringer, coupled with a briskly-paced content release schedule that was very welcome after the content drought of
Warlords of Draenor
, this expansion is generally remembered fondly by players in spite of challenges with Artifact grinds and Legendary acquisition in earlier patches.

Legion Launch - August 30 2016
Here were the content highlights from
Legion
's launch, taken from our survival guide written five years ago!
The max level in Legion is 110. You can start questing in the Broken Isles at 98.
The new class in Legion is the
Cacciatore di Demoni
. This class was open to Early Access players in August.
The
starting Legion questline
sends you to the Broken Shore, Dalaran, and acquiring your Artifact.
Leveling Zones in Legion dynamically scale; you can start questing in one of four zones.
There are no weapon drops in Legion; your
Artifact
serves as your weapon throughout the expansion. Artifacts are powerful weapons steeped in lore, with traits and relics to enhance gameplay, and a variety of appearances for transmog.
There are
10 new dungeons
available at Legion's launch, with profession, class campaign, and world quests that offer additional incentives to run them. Mythic+ is a new difficulty that replaces Challenge Modes for skilled players.
The highest ilvl loot at launch comes from
Legion World Bosses
and
Legion Legendaries
; other loot can proc a higher Warforged item level to reach ilvl 850.
World Quests
are max-level quests that provide a variety of rewards, enhanced through the Emissary system for additional bonuses. Additional max-level solo content is the outdoor zone

Patch 7.1 - Return to Karazhan - October 25 2016
Return to Karazhan was announced before
Legion
was even released, showing that Blizzard took their promise to deliver content faster than WoD seriously.
This patch included include
Mythic Karazhan

Suramar Quest campaign

Raiding with Leashes
and
Falcosaur pet content
, quality-of-life changes for the player UI, PvP, and leveling abilities, a Blood of Sargeras trader, and more.
Several weeks later, the mini-raid
Trial of Valor
opened, which is shaping up to be very relevant in
Shadowlands
with the story of Helya.
Patch 7.1.5 - January 10 2017
Patch 7.1.5 included new
Brawler's Guild fights

Artifact Knowledge Catch Up

Nighthold Raid
also opened on January 17th.
Patch 7.2 - Tomb of Sargeras - March 28 2017
Patch 7.2 included the
Broken Shore outdoor zone

Patch 7.3.5 contained
4 new backpack slots

, a leveling revamp which includes
zones that scale to your level

quest chain.
Later in the patch, players accessed
Ulduar Timewalking
during Wrath Timewalking week and new
