With Season 3 rapidly approaching, many players have been asking, "What level keystone should I do this week?" We've heard the question asked many times this week, and we're going to try to give our best recommendation for this question.
Q: What level keystone should I do this week?
A: Our recommendation would be to complete the highest level keystone you can this week, before Season 3 starts.
Specifics
:
Some of you may be looking for a specific answer, and while we think you should do the highest level keystone you can, this is what we would recommend depending on your goals. To be safe, you should do a Keystone at minimum 4 levels above the level you wish to do next week.
In increasing order of difficulty and rewards:
If you want the maximum base item level from your Weekly Chest and acquire Rank 3 of the Mythic+ Essence in 3 weeks
, complete at least a +14 Keystone before Season 3 starts. This will give you at least the required +10 Keystone for the first week of Season 3.
If you want to acquire Rank 3 of the Mythic+ Essence in 2 weeks
, complete at least a +19 Keystone before Season 3 starts. This will give you at least the required +15 Keystone for the first week of Season 3.
If you want the most
Residuo Titanico
, do the highest keystone you can do.
You'll likely receive a Season 2 Weekly Chest next week, which means base 410 gear and lower amount of Titan Residuum. This is not the reason that you want to do a high key this week as explained below.

Reasoning
The Season 2 gear and Titan Residuum is not the reason that you want to do a high keystone this week.
It's always easier to lower a keystone that's too high and go for completion, than to level a Keystone up by timing it.
You want to do a high keystone this week because of how much easier it will be to level and complete keystones in Season 2 compared to Season 3 due to many reasons. This includes a Scaling change, a new Seasonal Affix and the possibility of Blizzard lowering your Keystones by extra levels this upcoming week.
By doing higher keystones this week, you're setting up for a high level Keystone that you only have to complete (not in time) for the first week of Season 3. You then don't have to worry about leveling and timing high keystones on the first week of Season 3 which will have increased difficulty and can quickly attain a +10 or +15 Weekly Season 3 Chest for the week after.
Scaling Change
Find out more about the upcoming Mythic+ Scaling Changes
On the PTR, Season 3 comes with a Scaling change to Mythic Keystones. Every keystone level on the Season 3 PTR scales the damage and health of enemies by 10%, up from 8%. This means that it will be much harder to complete high keystones in Season 3, compared to Season 2.
Thus, you should push your Keystone as high as possible this week, because it will be much easier to do so. If you want a +15 Season 3 Weekly Chest, you'll need to do at least a +16 this week in Season 2.
To get those keys, you'll either have to time a +15 in Season 2 or a +14 in Season 3.
By the table below, a +15 in Season 2 is +172% and in Season 3 is +214%.
It will be much easier to time a +15 this Season, and go for completion on the +16 compared to timing a +14 next week and going for completion on the +15

Blizzard May Lower Keystones
In the transition from Season 1 to Season 2, Blizzard reduced all Keystones by an additional 3 levels because of a change to the scaling factor.
However, Blizzard appears to be changing the way that Mythic dungeons are scaled in Season 3, and because of this, we're not exactly sure if Blizzard will be reducing Keystone levels with this patch.
Keystones less than +10 will only see about a scaling difference of about 1 keystone level.
Keystones between +10 and +15 will see a scaling difference of about 2 keystone levels.
Keystone above +15 will see a scaling difference of 3+ keystone levels.
Because of this uncertainty, if you want to be sure that you don't accidentally have a +7 keystone next week instead of a +10, we would once again recommend that you complete as high of a keystone as you can.
No Bwonsamdi Buff and Beguiling
With Season 3 starting, this means it's time to say goodbye to Bwonsamdi (Nickname: Bob), his zombies and
Accordo di Bwonsamdi
.
Going for a "completion run" (Nickname: Bob run), has never been easier in Season 2 with players intentionally pulling mobs on top of the spawn point and constantly dying at the start to drain the timer and activate
Accordo di Bwonsamdi
for the rest of the run. Even if you're not going for a Bob run, if you complete a timer, it gives you an incentive to finish the dungeon and makes it a little easier, especially in difficult dungeons.
This buff is so potent, providing:
20% damage and healing.
The ability to reset the
Esausto
debuff.
The ability to double
Eroismo
/
Brama di Sangue
on any difficult or long boss (or every boss!).
As far as we know, there is no similar buff when the
Inganno
is active. Queen Azshara simply comments on your failure to time the key, similar to Infested.
In addition, with a new Seasonal Affix, it will take time for players to learn new routes and strategies. It will be much easier to push an equal difficulty key on Reaping compared to Beguiling due to familiarity.
