The World of Warcraft website is slowly being updated to reflect the changing of time, with the
Playable Races page
updated to include new images for each of the primary Alliance and Horde races.
New
Old
As seen above, art was formerly used to depict each race, but those image have now been updated to use in-game models instead. While this shows off heritage armor sets and in-game character customization options, it's worth noting that Goblins use old faces which are no longer obtainable. Not all races have received Heritage Armor as well, so Blizzard has outfitted the other races mainly with Warfront Armor Sets, or in an ironic twist, a Zandalar transmog for the Darkspear trolls. Hopefully this doesn't mean Heritage Armor for the remaining races isn't on hold.
Allied Races have used in-game art depictions since their addition in 2018, so it makes sense why Blizzard updated the older races although there was a certain high-fantasy charm to the imaginative art pieces. One could argue that Blizzard could have instead replaced the Allied Race models with concept art, as they commissioned
Dmitry Prozorov
to make artwork for each new
set of Allied Races
during Battle for Azeroth.
That said, it doesn't look like all of the
individual race pages
have been updated yet, as some of the original races still display the old artwork and do not reflect events of
Battle for Azeroth
.
Too soon?
Darnassus remains a symbol of the night elves’ rich culture and glorious history.
