Even more Argus quest cutscenes were added to the Patch 7.3 PTR yesterday. We've previewed two more, along with a lore analysis, in this post. Check out the other three in-game cutscenes
here
.
As this is a Patch 7.3 PTR story post, there are spoilers within.
This cutscene takes place at
46:10 in our Argus Questing Part 1 Video
, during the
Signore della Guglia
quest which unlocks
Missioni Mondiali del Forte di Nath'raxas
. The
cutscenes from yesterday
cover why Aggramar is hostile to humans after originally helping protect Azeroth.
In this cutscene, you can appreciate the colossal size of the titans next to your own character:
In this video, you have a good look at
Taeshalach
, the sword of Aggramar which was shattered when he fought Sargeras.
Aggramar soon found himself outmatched. Like all titans, he was uniquely susceptible to fel magic. Sargeras's ferocious assaults shattered Aggramar's defenses and sent him reeling in agony. In a final desperate counterattack, Aggramar summoned all the power at his command and struck at Sargeras.
Their two blades met, igniting a furious explosion of fel and arcane power. When the torrent of warring energies finally subsided, Sargeras and Aggramar saw that both of their weapons had been shattered.
This cutscene takes place at
7:10 in our Argus Questing Part 2 Video
, during
Eredath, il Gioiello di Argus
. Music will likely be added to this cutscene in the future.
Chieftain Hatuun: Talgath has turned against us!
Prophet Velen: No... not you too, old friend...
Chieftain Hatuun: It cannot end like this. Take the others and go, Prophet. We will buy you time.
Prophet Velen: Hatuun, no! You do not have to do this!
Chieftain Hatuun: Please... keep my family safe.
Prophet Velen: K'ure! Help us!
Kil'Jaeden: I will hunt you across the stars, traitor! Even if it takes a thousand years!
Of particular interest in this cutscene, we get to see a Young Prophet Velen as well as Archimonde and Kil'jaeden wearing light-themed armor at the start of their corruption.
Some other related dialogue to the escape:
Young Kil'jaeden My people, I have called you here to share a revelation.
For so long, we eredar have been alone in the universe.
We need not endure this solitude any longer.
He has shown us the path to a new future.
In partnership with our new ally, the light of the eredar will shine bright across the cosmos!
I ask you, now, to raise your voices in praise. Praise Sargeras!
The beacon of our civilization shining bright... upon what we feared was an empty void.
The Triumvirate has received a visitor from another world!
He offers us power unlike any we have known before.
Prophet Velen: My people will never know how I mourned for them... the depths of my regret.
Prophet Velen: As Argus grew smaller and smaller in the distance, I begged the naaru to go back.
Prophet Velen: "That is not your path," they told me. Is this what they intended?
Here is the description of the betrayal in
World of Warcraft Chronicle Volume 1
:
Sargeras vowed to share with the eredar not only the most obscure secrets of existence, but also the final answer to what he believed was the fundamental flaw in creation. In return, the denizens of ARgus would devote themselves to Sargeras's grand work...and help him remedy that flaw.
The offer awed both Archimonde and Kil'jaeden, who were honored to be part of this grand undertaking. Velen, however, was not convinced. He sensed something strange about the seemingly beautiful and all-knowing creature who had appeared to them.
Velen meditated using an ancient artifact gifted to his race by the holy naaru long before his time--the ata'mal crystal. Through the enchatned relic, he received a horrific vision of the eredar's future if they sided with Sargeras. They would become horribly disfigured, transformed into demonic beings of depthless evil.
Velen warned his brothers of what he had seen, but they dismissed his insights and made it clear they intended to accept Sargeras's offer. Fearing that Archimonde and Kil'jaeden would kill him if he continued to dissent, Velen feigned acceptance. Though he and Kil'jaeden were particularly close friends, Velen didn't believe he could trust their bond to prevail over Sargeras's enticing promises.
Velen despaired at the fate of his people. In this moment of desperation, the same beings who had granted him his vision of the eredar's downfall reached out to him. One of the naaru, K'ure, contacted the eredar leader and offered to shepherd him and his closest allies to safety. Filled with renewed hope, Velen sought out other eredar whom he believed he could trust.
As Sargeras arrived on Argus to corrupt the unsuspecting eredar, Velen and his followers made their daring escape. They gathered aboard a massive naaru dimensional fortress known as the Genedar and fled their homeworld forever. From that day forever, Velen and his followers would be known as the draenei, or "exiled ones."
Kil'jaeden made good on that promise and chased the draenei for millennia. While the Draenei found refuge on Draenor, Talgath eventually found the Draenei and sent Kil'jaeden to corrupt the Orcs so they would murder the Draenei. In fleeing again, the Draenei crashed their spaceship onto Azuremyst Isle.
Velen has played a larger role in Legion, facing Kil'jaeden directly in the Tomb of Sargeras:
