Mage Tower Timewalking Gear Rules and Restrictions in Patch 9.1.5 - Make a Timewalking Gear Set

Mage Tower Timewalking is now available for testing on the Patch 9.1.5 PTR and the system uses standard Timewalking scaling, not PvP templates. Based on this information, you may wish to use this time to farm a Timewalking set to make the Mage Tower challenges easier.
Mage Tower Timewalking Gear
The Mage Tower Timewalking uses
standard Timewalking scaling
, not a template like assumed from datamining. This means that your gear, trinkets and stats do matter, but all your gear is scaled down to a maximum of item level 50. As long as a piece of gear is over item level 50, that is the highest item level that can be achieved on a piece of gear inside the Mage Tower.
This leaves many expansions worth of gear options (especially trinkets) to choose from, with many overtuned pieces of gear being very very good for Timewalking scaled content.
Restricted Content
As previously mentioned, there are some lists of abilities and effects that are restricted from being used in Mage Tower Timewalking.

Ever since Battle for Azeroth, Legion legendaries have been disabled by Blizzard and don't work under any circumstances, including Mage Tower Timewalking.
Legendary Not-Restricted Content
Anything that wasn't mentioned above is currently working in the Mage Tower. This currently includes, but is not limited to, the following:
Val'anyr, Martello degli Antichi Re
Drachira, Requie di Tarecgosa
Golad, Crepuscolo degli Aspetti
and
Tiriosh, Incubo delle Ere
Mists of Pandaria Legendary Cloaks
Potenziamento Draconico
proc from the BFA Legendary cloak

is equipped.
However, Blizzard had to hotfix the Heart of Azeroth Essences out of the Mage Tower testing earlier today, so more effects may be added to the restricted list which could include anything else that would trivialize the encounter or is considered an expansion system.
Consumables Allowed
Consumables are allowed. You can use old potions such as

, any flasks, food buffs and drums. Don't forget about
Kit dell'Aliante dei Goblin
, especially for the tank challenge!
Best Gear for Mage Tower Timewalking
Because the Mage Tower is scaled to Item Level 50, this removes outgearing the content in the normal fashion -- item level. However, you can still make the Mage Tower slightly easier by using a Timewalking set -- equipping pieces of gear which are overbudgeted for their slot when scaled to a lower item level, which you can start farming now.
Here are some of the things that you can do:
Find old pieces of gear that have more gem slots than current Shadowlands Gear (e.g.
Celumbra, Dicotomia della Notte
). Having more gem slots means more stats.
Socket old gems that scale better than current Shadowlands gems, including old Meta gems such as
Diamante Aria Fulgida Caotico
and epic primary stat gems such as
Granato Regio Ardito
.
Farm Trinkets that scale well into Timewalking content which includes
Trofeo Spina di Drago
and
Caraffa di Venti Carichi d'Animum
.
Use old enchants such as
Incantamento Collana - Marchio del Satiro Nascosto
from Legion.
This just scratches the surface as there are many many pieces of gear to choose from across multiple expansions (
Detonazione Ciclonica
