This week's GG WoW video looks at the implications of the Dragonflight Alpha launch, specifically how it relates to the expansion's readiness for its slated 2022 Release Date.
The news of the 2022 Release Date initially worried players as the historical timeline meant that this expansion's Alpha/Beta cycle would be the shortest of any recent expansion, heightening fears of a rushed process. Now that the Alpha has come out, there is reassuring evidence from the state of the game itself and from developer interviews, such as the
Wowhead group interview
, in which they reveal that the Alpha is being launched at a further stage in the development process than previous ones, and the expansion is indeed on track for a full testing cycle while still being likely to hit the 2022 target.
Dragonflight's Alpha is also being run somewhat differently than previous ones, with only a few things available for testing at any given time even though there are more things ready for testing, to focus feedback and player/creator energies into those specific places rather than potentially diluting the testing base and hurting their ability to gather feedback.
Overall, Dratnos and Tettles are pretty satisfied with these answers to the release date concerns, though they continue to believe that rapid and active iteration on the classes themselves is the most important part of this process and it needs to be prioritized all the way through the testing cycle. What do you think about the Dragonflight Alpha timeline?
