Since they were introduced on March 17th, two months into Patch 8.3,
Echi di Ny'alotha
have become the primary currency used to interact with most of the current endgame progression systems. This guide will detail all of their uses, how you can best go about acquiring them, and the recommended strategies for both using and earning them depending on your playstyle.
Ways to Spend Echoes of Ny'alotha
Essences
: Any Essence that you have unlocked on your account can be purchased by your other characters Echoes of Ny'alotha. You can also buy any role-specific Essences for which you've unlocked at least one of the other Essences earned through the same source. You cannot otherwise purchase Essences that you have never earned on your account.
Cost: 2,500 Echoes per Essence
Corruption
: You can purchase a scroll that will allow you to apply a given corruption effect to one of your items. That item can't already have a corruption, nor can it be
Ashjra'kamas, Manto della Risolutezza
, Azerite Armor,
Cuore di Azeroth
, a Trinket, or an item from before the current season, such as Eternal Palace gear. After some bug fixes, it CAN now be a crafted item, and/or a previously corrupted item that has been cleansed.
Cost: 200-300 Echoes per point of Corruption. You get more bang for your buck with more expensive corruptions.
Ricettacolo delle Visioni Orripilanti
: This allows you to enter a
Horrific Vision
, which is the only way to progress your Legendary Cloak to rank 15, the best way to acquire
Ricordi Corrotti
to progress your Horrific Vision tech tree and eventually add sockets to your gear, and earn some guaranteed corrupted items up to item level 470 if you can fully clear the hardest mode.
Cost: 1,750 Echoes per Vessel, with 750 refunded if you can fully clear the vision (no masks required).
Nucleo Malefico
: Once your cloak is Rank 15, these items are used to add three extra corruption resistance, up to a cap based off how many total weeks it's been possible to own a Rank 15 cloak. You can earn one of these Cores per week from fully clearing a Horrific Vision (no masks required) and one from defeating
N'zoth the Corruptor
on Normal difficulty or higher. Once your Cloak is caught up, you can only earn one core per week from either of these sources, instead of two per week from both. You can now also shortcut this time-gate by using Echoes of Ny'alotha.
Cost: 2,000 Echoes per Malefic Core
Ways to Earn Echoes of Ny'alotha
Weekly Boxes
: Each week you can open a cache if you completed a Mythic Plus dungeon or a Conquest Cap the previous week. These contain a hefty sum of Echoes, scaled based on the highest level of dungeon you completed or the highest PvP rating at which you won a game the previous week.
Reward: 100 per Keystone Level/875-1500 based on PvP rank.
Vale/Uldum Assaults
: Each week there is one Major Assault and two Minor Assaults that, combined, reward a moderate amount of Echoes of Ny'alotha, as well as a boatload of
Visioni Coalescenti
.
Reward: 625 Echoes for the Major Assault, 375 each for the Minor Assaults.
Horrific Visions
: This isn't a great source of Echoes for newer characters, and it's gated behind the amount of Coalescing Visions that you can acquire, but once you're able to fully clear the zone this can become a hefty portion of your Echoes income, especially if you do your
Daily Lesser Vision
and Daily Uldum/Vale quests.
Reward: 250 Echoes for just the boss, 125 echoes per side zone, for a total of 750 for a full clear.
Emissaries
: You can earn Echoes very easily from Emissaries without any grouping required and without needing to tackle any difficult content.
Reward: 250 Echoes per Emissary
Raiding
Ny'alotha
: You can pick up Echoes from every boss you kill on Normal or higher. This reward can only be earned once per boss per week, regardless of difficulty, so there's no Echoes incentive to run multiple difficulties of Ny'alotha per week. An exception to this is LFR, which has it's own Echoes reward structure that does not care about your Normal or higher lockouts.
Reward: ~100 per boss, 125 per LFR wing.
Heroic Darkshore
: One of Battle for Azeroth's flagship systems, the second and final Warfront sends us to do epic battle in the plagued and scorched wasteland that once basked in Teldrassil's glory. As if there weren't enough
exciting reasons
to experience this premium content, you can also acquire Echoes if you're up to the incredible challenge of Heroic mode!
Reward: 375 Echoes.
PvP
: Random Battlegrounds, Rated Battlegrounds, and Rated Arena all reward Echoes of Ny'alotha if you win. If you lose, you get nothing.
Reward: ~100 for Random BG Win, 50-125 for Rated Arena win, 175-400 for Rated Battleground Win, based on PvP rank.
Mythic Plus
: Whether or not you beat the timer, you'll get Echoes after every dungeon.
Reward: 15 Echoes per Keystone Level.
Echoes of Ny'alotha Tips and Strategies
Depending on what kind of player you are, you may have a dramatically different experience with Echoes of Ny'alotha. Pick and choose from these strategies based on what makes sense for you, given how you play the game. World of Warcraft has always had stuff to grind, and for many players the process of doing that in the most efficient manner possible is part of what makes the game fun, but for others, the fun comes solely from other parts of the game. If that is you, make sure you don't ever lose the fun in the game by forcing yourself to do chores you don't want to do in order to be "optimal."
The Best Sources of Echoes per Hour
If your goal is to power your character up using Echoes, you may want to go out there and grind some! For most players, the best sources of Echoes per Hour will be earning a weekly key, the Vale/Uldum Assaults, and using Coalescing Visions to enter and fully clear Horrific Visions. However, these sources are not infinitely repeatable, and you can easily run out of them depending on how much you play.
In general, if you are a moderately geared and skilled PvPer, the best source of infinitely farmable Echoes of Ny'alotha will be Rated Arenas. Mythic Plus is not a bad source either, but is generally a little bit less rewarding. To know for sure, your best move is to actually track the amount of Echoes you're gaining per hour from any given source.
Spending your Echoes of Ny'alotha
New/Returning Players
New players and those returning from before Patch 8.2 can't buy Essences with Echoes, and need to instead earn them the old fashioned way. This leaves a choice between using Echoes on Corruption, and using them on the Legendary Cloak. For most players, the best strategy will be to use Echoes on the Legendary Cloak until it's rank 15, by buying and using
Ricettacolo delle Visioni Orripilanti
. Once the cloak is Rank 15, you can switch your focus to Corruption until you're close to having enough good Corrupted gear that you want some more Corruption resist instead, at which point you can start buying
Nucleo Malefico
s.
Alts
For alts, it's generally a good idea to prioritize getting the Cloak up to Rank 15 as quickly as possible also, as the sooner you can do that, the sooner you can start earning your one extra Malefic Core per week, which is effectively saving you 2,000 Echoes. However, buying Essences can be a massive spike in power, so do that first instead if you need to. It's a good idea to hold off and not buy any Essences that you're going to acquire through normal gameplay, as that is also effectively saving you the Echoes you would have spent.
Invested Players
For invested players that have played their character since the start of the patch, many of the rewards from Echoes of Ny'alotha are not particularly relevant. Corruption is generally the big-ticket item for these players. With corruption budgets getting north of 150, a full set of Corruption scrolls can now cost up to 45,000 Echoes of Ny'alotha, not to mention the prospect of buying alternative Corruption sets for different specs or situations.
Hardcore Players
For extremely invested players that already have their desired corruption effects, the Echoes grind can largely be a thing of the past. You can shift to using them on your weekly Malefic Cores instead of doing a Horrific Vision, and you can happily spend your time carefree, thinking about how great it is that there's nothing to grind anymore... except there still can be!
Each
Occhio Cavato di N'zoth
costs you 25,000
Ricordi Corrotti
. You can get around 5,000 Mementos from a Fully Cleared, 5-mask, all chests, all crystals run of Stormwind (it gives more than Orgrimmar). This means that, at peak efficiency, every 5 Horrific Visions you complete earns you one socket. You can buy a Horrific Vision entry for 1750 Echoes, but you get 750 back upon completion, so it effectively only costs 1,000 Echoes. This means that you can "buy" a socket for 5,000 Echoes of Ny'alotha.
Once your character is fully corrupted and fully socketed, you can use Echoes to farm Mementos for the
Brulicatore Malvagio
. Then you can farm Echoes in order to sell Horrific Vision carry runs to other players.
If you really run out of ideas, you can always use your echoes to commit a crime against humanity:
