Day 1 Shadowlands Leveling Tips: Beating the Maw Bottleneck - Swapblasters, Monelite Keys, Speed Items

At the start of Shadowlands, ALL players will be funneled through the Maw quests. If you plan on leveling quickly, Shadowlands leveling is linear, so it's going to be important to get ahead of other players in the Maw to not get bottlenecked. We've compiled some tips and tricks in order to help you get ahead of the pack while leveling!
The Maw Introduction Basics
Compared to expansions of the past, Shadowlands leveling experience is
linear
and funnels all players through an open-world experience through the Maw. Legion had players separate into different scenarios to collect their Artifact weapon before choosing one of 4 zones, and Battle for Azeroth had players going through a solo scenario before choosing one of 6 different zones.
Shadowlands has a very very short scenario and only 1 choice of zone. As such, after a brief introduction in Icecrown Citadel,
ALL
players will be travelling along the same questing path and be fighting for the same quest spawns. If you wish to level quickly, it's going to be important to finish the Maw questline as fast as possible in order to get ahead of the pack and compete with less players for spawns.
Below, we'll cover some of the things that you may want to do in order to do to help finish the Maw segment as fast as possible.

Increasing Movement Speed in the Maw
Speeding Up The Helm of Domination
One of the first things that you will do on expansion launch is head to Icecrown Citadel and be tasked with bringing 4 Helm of Domination shards to the 4 corners of the ritual circle.
However, when you pick up a Shard, you are slowed by 85% due to
Trasporto Scheggia
and can't use your abilities. As such, this can take a quite a bit of time to walk all the way to the other end of the circle, but there are two items that you can use to speed things up:
For one of shards, you can jump and actually use
Kit dell'Aliante dei Goblin
which will let you cover a large distance making it all the way there.
If you're leveling with a friend, you can grab the shard and they can use the
Fulminatore a Scambio
to swap you directly next to the drop off point! Then you can do the same for them.

Movement Speed Increases
As you can't mount in the Maw, movement speed is king. There are many areas that you need to just need to walk to the next objective where you can equip any speed items that you have to walk faster and have the food buff from
Tartare d'Orso
. In addition, Druids and Worgen and use their special abilities,
Forma Celere
/
Forma di Cavalcatura
and
Corsa Animalesca
.
In addition, you can get some big increases from the
Fame del Branco
trinket from Halls of Valor and
Pozione del Piè Veloce
which you can use until you hit Level 51.

Increasing Movement Speed in the Maw
Lockpicking Cages with No Quest Keys
When you get to

in the Maw, you're tasked with freeing 15 Shackled Souls from cages which are locked. Each cage usually contains 2 or 3 Shackled Souls, and you're
supposed
to kill mobs to get keys to unlock the cages.
Players with

and have the required professions to be able to use those items, can ignore any kills altogether and use the items to unlock the cages. Rogues with their
Scasso
can do the same!
This will save you a lot of time, as you won't have to fight for mobs to tag to get the Keys and then find cages. You can just simply find cages.
