Uncle Mako can be located chilling at the VIP island of the newly-added Valdrakken Hot Springs in Thaldraszus, meditating by a table served with tea.
The NPC serves as a double homage: First to the
Avatar: The Last Airbender
character of Iroh, a retired Fire Nation general, Firebending master, and mentor to Prince Zuko. Uncle Mako shows several similarities to Iroh: Using an outfit with similar colors as Iroh did during his time in the Earth Kingdom; is shown to be meditating, a common practice to Iroh; and, of course, sitting near a table that's served with tea, a beverage Iroh is
very
passionate about.
"Sharing tea with a fascinating stranger is one of life’s true delights.” - Iroh
The second reference is in his name: Mako, born Makoto Iwamatsu, was Iroh's voice actor for the first two seasons of the show. After losing a battle to esopheal cancer, Mako received a homage in
Avatar: The Last Airbender
during the episode "Tales of Ba Sing Se", with a very emotional song sung by Iroh to his son. This scene is often described as one of the most emotional scenes in the history of animation.
