The 2.1 patch will add an identical, non PvP (not to mention non unique) gem that can be cut by jewelcrafters.

Of course, no one really knows where (or under what condition) these epic gems will drop yet, so this one may still be a good option for most people, especially considering the drop in cost.

The upcoming 2.2 patch introduces an epic +24 AP gem, "Crimson Sun".

It is cut by JC (recipe purchased from the Consortium, Revered rep required), however it is Unique-Equipped and Bind On Pickup.

So basically a jewelcrafter may have one +24 AP gem equipped, as a reward for mastering the profession.

I just bought 3 of these and i went to place the 2 others I got in another item and it said I reached my maximum limit of this gem. Is that an error or did i just waste 16k honor on something that I can't use?

The name Bold is wrong for the stats on this, It should be Bright.

Bold is STR, and Bright is AP.

The error is in game, so it's not wowheads fault.

Can this be put in a BoE item without makign it Soulbound? For example buy the gem on my main, socket it on a BoE item and sent it back to my alt?

Since 3.0.1 they have been non binding and no longer are unique-equip. This makes it so PVP players can get all their sockets from PVP and are able to make money off excess honor by selling top quality gems :).

Unsure why WoWHead states that this item is unavailable to players, as of the 7th of July 2018 you can still happily buy both the Brilliant Ornate Ruby and Delicate Ornate Ruby from Master Sergeant Biggins in Stormwind for one Mark of Honour each. The only one missing is the Strength gem as he does not appear to sell a Bold Ornate Ruby.

The best primary-stat gems you can get if you want to mix-max a set of gear for Timewalking too, their stats don't scale down at all in any of the various Timewalking difficulties because the gems are only considered level 60 and already below the levels all the Timewalking difficulties scale down to.
