You may be thinking "the vendor said to reach rep stage 4, so now that i am rep stage 4 how do i upgrade my gear" well a prerequsite for upgrading your gear that requires stage 4, is to get this item from stage 6. Which makes perfect sense. Totally.

VERY nice Blizzard, again another point that clearly shows that the people that program the game, clearly do not play it....
This makes absolutely no sense at all, 226 gear which you would get from rank 5 upgrades isn't even that great with 9.1 :D

what the actual %^&*, this makes zero sense. So by the time you get to rank 6, probably end of July for a semi hard core player, the upgrades will be already obsolete. This should have been enabled at rank 5. It's not as if 226 will be overpowered at this point.

You should no longer see this item on the vendor once you use it. To confirm you successfully used it, run this script:

yeah the amount of grind required, thanks to non account wide rep, is ridicolous for alts. realistically the catch up gear is only upgradable to 220 i.e. tier 3 and can be reached with only a few days of dailies. the grind is already annoying AF for the main

this is literally one of the worst implemented things i've seen. pls god let the madness end! replace all blizz devs with literally anyone at this point and see what happens cuz who the hell in there right mind would farm for rank 6 items for an upgrade, even JUST ONE is not worth the time investment, you'd be better off hardshipping it through mythic plus or raid for a 226 ...who the hell is this gear for?

Yes, this is seriously, seriously flawed. It had to be an error and not intended.
So I expect not many will bother with this when you can get the same or higher gear without the massive grind.

As Deladrin says in the comments "Why isn't the "stage 5" upgrade available at.. you know.. tier 5?"

You'll never make it as a WoW dev with that kind of common logic. 😊

Blizzard, it would be nice if you admitted to the problem and offer an explanation. Here I've reached tier 5 to upgrade gear to 226 and I need to be Tier 6 to buy Research Report: Adaptive Alloys. Where is the logic here?

To add to the other comments here. These are only good for the character that buys the item. It does NOT allow your alts to upgrade to rank 5.

I only have a limited time to enjoy WOW playing since 2006. I was happy that Blizzard actually thought about us hard working people at last as we too pay same per month as hard core guys. Then after achieving Tier 4 I was devastated to know that you have to go all the way to Tier 6 to get Adaptive Alloys to further anything. In this world ONLY Blizzard developers would be stupid enough to do this. Well Blizzard when you pay peanuts you get monkeys working for you and this is the final proof of it!

I just purchased this with an alt immediately after reaching tier 4 with Codice degli Archivisti with 68 Fama.

I do have another character at tier 6. I did not notice if this item was available when the alt was at tier 3.

Rapporto di Ricerca: Tecniche di Analisi delle Reliquie, Rapporto di Ricerca: Leghe Primarie, and the armor piece Cintura Foderata di Cristallo di Korthite still appear to be gated by tier 6.
Also Rapporto di Ricerca: Leghe Primarie requires 75 Fama.

i have an alt at tier 5 and both alloys research reports are available. what i don't know is if i can just buy the higher one and skip the 4k research cost of the first one. anyone?

By time I need it, I'm in the middle of Tier 2 or Tier 3, and then I give up because it takes too long to reach and I have to put up with mediocre 220 gear.
