Convert and Spend Hot Streak: Critical strikes generate Riscaldamento and Serie Bollente, spend these on Pirosfera (or Colonna di Fuoco in AoE). Use Detonazione di Fuoco to convert Heating up into Hot Streak.

Combustion is Key: Combustione makes all spells guaranteed Critical Strikes, supercharging Serie Bollente generation. This spell can be cast while casting, so try to always activate it at the end of a cast.

Don't Waste Time: Sitting on capped Detonazione di Fuoco charges, or using them when you already have Serie Bollente up is wasteful. Try to make full use of cooldowns and buffs. Always be casting.

Best Fire Mage Opener

The optimal Fire Mage opener makes use of Inferno di Fuoco and sets up your Combustione window with a "Double Pyroblast". The idea is to have as many instant cast Pirosfera casts as possible. Activating Combustione while casting other spells allows us to fit more spells into the cooldown. After activating Combustione, proceed to the Single-Target or AoE Priority tab.

  Pre-Combat Check
  
  Before any combat happens, it is important for Fire Mage to make sure the following are done. This applies to raids, dungeons, delves, or even open-world content.
  
  Fire Mage Major Cooldowns
  
  Fire Mage only has one major cooldown (Combustione), but it has a huge impact on gameplay. Meteora is a minor cooldown, and is mostly used in tandem with Combustione.
  
  Combustion
  
  All spells Critically Strike during Combustione, making you a Serie Bollente machine gun. It has many interactions that either grant other buffs, increase proc chance, speed up cooldown recovery, or boost damage. Key takeaways are:
  - Combustione can be cast while casting. Always cast a hard-cast into Combustione, but be sure to activate it before the cast completes. Viable spells are:
    
    Pirosfera or Colonna di Fuoco (AoE) with a Piroclasma proc.
  - Palla di Fuocogelo if Frostfire.
  - Bruciatura if Sunfury.
  - Palla di Fuoco.
  When playing Inferno di Fuoco, Combustione should be delayed until the target reaches 90% health (Typically around 18 seconds).
  If not playing Inferno di Fuoco, Combustione should still be delayed on the pull (Around 8-10 seconds).
  - We do this to pre-stack buffs like Infuocato and because Detonazione di Fuoco charges are plentiful.
  After the opener, Combustione should generally be used on cooldown. Sometimes you will delay Combustione for better overlaps with AoE, Damage amps, or to avoid forced downtime. Plan ahead so you don't end up delaying and having it backfire, by costing you a use.
  Infuocato is our new Apex talent. It has a chance to proc when you spend Serie Bollente.
  - Combustione can be extended by Infuocato procs.
  - During Combustione, your first 3 Infuocato procs are almost guaranteed.
  Impeto Ardente speeds up the Detonazione di Fuoco cooldown during Combustione.
  Critical Strike is not useless during Combustione. Che Tutto Bruci and Bruciatura Lenta convert Crit into other effects. Unfortunately, this does not boost Critical Strike much.
  When Combustione ends, Surriscaldamento causes all targets with an active Maestria: Incendio to take extra damage. This damage depends on the "size" of the Ignite.
  - To maximize Surriscaldamento in Single Target, Meteora should be used within 10 seconds of Combustione ending. This buff gets randomly extended, so shoot for <8 seconds remaining to give yourself some wiggle room.
  For the Combustione window is longer, summons an Fenice Arcana, and ends with Ipertermia:
  - Ipertermia is a buff that allows you to rapidly fire Pirosfera or Colonna di Fuoco casts.
  - These casts are free, guaranteed to Crit, and ramp in damage.
  - You also gain a Haste buff from Ceneri dell'Ispirazione during this time.
  For the Combustione window is shorter and has no follow-up buffs.
  
  Fire Mage Advanced Tips
  
  The best thing you can do to improve your damage as a Fire Mage is to always be casting. Idle time in combat, caused by inactivity or poor movement, adds up and will greatly affect your damage. Mastering movement and keeping focus during combat is unequivocally the best way to raise your damage.
  
  Double Pyroblast and Finding your Rhythm
  
  This guide has many mentions to "Double Pyroblast". When a Palla di Fuoco (or other cast) completes, and is followed by an instant Pirosfera, both spells go off at the same time. If both Critically Strike, you will gain another Serie Bollente. Normally this is hard to predict, but Inferno di Fuoco and Combustione make it guaranteed. This works because two spells were in flight, and two spells Crit. If two spells Crit at the same time, you skip Riscaldamento, straight to Serie Bollente. That is Double Pyroblast.
  
  The beauty of Double Pyroblast is that it places the travel time of the spells during Global Cooldown, meaning that you won't lost time waiting for them to hit. There are many ways you can pull this off, but the key factors are:
  - You are guaranteed to Crit.
  - You are currently casting a spell that can generate Serie Bollente (Palla di Fuoco, Bruciatura, etc.).
  - You have Serie Bollente in hand before the cast completes.
  - You queue a Serie Bollente spender (Pirosfera or Colonna di Fuoco) as the cast completes.
  Note: You can swap Bruciatura for Palla di Fuoco and other spells that Serie Bollente.
  
  Display Animated Double Pyroblast Example
  
  So to reiterate on the most basic example: Begin casting Palla di Fuoco, convert Riscaldamento into Serie Bollente with Detonazione di Fuoco while casting (try doing it midway through the cast), then press Pirosfera as the Palla di Fuoco finishes. If both Crit, press Pirosfera again. If this is still not working for you, know that you are not alone. It's so common that we have devised a training method for you:
  
  The timing of your spellcasts and travel-times as a Fire Mage is something you should familiarize yourself with, and the best way to understand Double Pyroblast is to see it yourself. Practicing Double Pyroblast achieves both goals! Find a Target Dummy that is above 90% health, spec Sunfury with Inferno di Fuoco, unequip your gear, and repeat the following sequence:
  
  Pre-cast Pirosfera (Do not repeat this step).
  1. Palla di Fuoco
  2. Detonazione di Fuoco (if available) or Palla di Fuoco
  3. Queue Pirosfera as the Palla di Fuoco ends.
  4. Pirosfera again.
  5. Repeat from Step 1.
  The goal is to get to the point where you can repeat this sequence indefinitely, without mistakes. Add pieces of loot back one by one to bring your Haste back to normal levels. You can also cast Distorsione Temporale to increase the pace. Once you feel comfortable, you only need to add Combustione (Between Step 2 and 3) and you have it down!

  If you are above 104% haste, don't attempt to get Serie Bollente.
  
  Cast Palla di Fuoco instead of Bruciatura if you already have a Serie Bollente.
  
  This is due to extreme Haste breaking Double Pyroblast. The haste value where Bruciatura stop working can be lower depending on your connection to the server.
  
  If you are already casting Palla di Fuoco/Palla di Fuocogelo and Combustione is suddenly ready you can use that cast to enter Combustione. Bruciatura can also be used on the move.
  
  Prioritize spending all Detonazione di Fuoco charges in Combustione over spending all Piroclasma.
  
  Stop using Detonazione di Fuoco charges and Piroclasma buffs if Combustione will be up soon to ensure they are available during cooldowns.
  
  If Combustione is ready, hard-cast a spell and activate Combustione right before the cast completes. Priority of spells to hard-cast:
  - Colonna di Fuoco with Piroclasma (In AoE).
  - Pirosfera with Piroclasma.
  - Bruciatura (if talented).
  - Palla di Fuoco.
  If Combustione is ready, hard-cast a spell and activate Combustione right before the cast completes. Priority of spells to hard-cast:
  - Colonna di Fuoco with Piroclasma (In AoE).
  - Pirosfera with Piroclasma.
  - Bruciatura (if talented).
  - Palla di Fuocogelo without Potenziamento di Fuocogelo.
  Two simultaneous Colonna di Fuoco casts (one hard-cast, one instant with Serie Bollente) will "munch" the proc and not result in a Serie Bollente.
  
  Hard-cast Colonna di Fuoco with Riscaldamento only then consume the generated Serie Bollente after.
  
  Avoid hard-casting Colonna di Fuoco with Piroclasma with Serie Bollente already active.
  
  The goal here is to proc Piroclasma before the pull without entering combat.
  
  You must activate Combustione in the last 150 milliseconds of the Pirosfera cast for this opener.
  
  Distance to the target is also a concern, avoid long travel times.
  
  Only use this opener only if you are confident in your timing.
  
  If Palla di Fuoco and the instant Pirosfera leave your hands at the same time, both crit. This means you get Serie Bollente for another Pirosfera.
  
  If Palla di Fuocogelo and the instant Pirosfera leave your hands at the same time, both crit. This means you get Serie Bollente for another Pirosfera.
  
  Execute refers to <=30% health. This is the range where Scottatura becomes active.
  
  Above 90% (Inferno di Fuoco), Palla di Fuoco and Pirosfera will always Critically Strike. This means you can anticipate Riscaldamento.
  
  If you just cast Pirosfera (without Palla di Fuoco), and only one spell is in flight, you can alternate between Detonazione di Fuoco and Pirosfera.
  
  Do this until you run out of Detonazione di Fuoco, or the target reaches 90% health.
  
  Pirosfera is instant and will always Critically Strike during Ipertermia.
  
  Below 30% health (Scottatura), Bruciatura will always Critically Strike.
  
  Flip the logic and use Detonazione di Fuoco to generate Riscaldamento while casting Bruciatura. Follow up with Pirosfera (since Bruciatura is guaranteed to Crit).
  
  In execute, try and play close to the target so you can react quickly when your Pirosferas Crit. Converting these Riscaldamento to Serie Bollente before beginning a Bruciatura makes you waste less Crits.
  
  During filler, secure the Serie Bollente and queue your instant Pirosfera as a Palla di Fuoco ends. If two spells hit at the same time, there is a grace period for counting crits.
  
  Colonna di Fuoco is instant and will always Critically Strike during Ipertermia.
  
  Below 30% health (Scottatura), Bruciatura will always Critically Strike.
  
  Flip the logic and use Detonazione di Fuoco to generate Riscaldamento while casting Bruciatura. Follow up with Colonna di Fuoco (since Bruciatura is guaranteed to Crit).
  
  In execute, try to react quickly when your Colonna di Fuocos Crit. Converting these Riscaldamento to Serie Bollente before beginning a Bruciatura makes you waste less Crits.

  Riverbero di Calore makes Bruciatura instant.
  
  Since Bruciatura has no travel time, this crit can easily be wasted if you queue it from a Palla di Fuoco. Only use this proc after spending on Pirosfera or Colonna di Fuoco.
  
  Colonna di Fuoco can be used at 3+ targets if you just want the max damage. Pirosfera is still worth using sometimes, even at a loss in AoE (due to priority damage).
  - As a compromise between AoE and Priority damage, Colonna di Fuoco in Combustione at 4+ targets.
  - Colonna di Fuoco outside of Combustione at 4+ targets.
  - Never Colonna di Fuoco during Inferno di Fuoco. Pirosfera is better above 90% because Pirosfera is guaranteed to Crit.
  Colonna di Fuoco can be used at 3+ targets if you just want the max damage. Pirosfera is still worth using sometimes, even at a loss in AoE (due to priority damage).
  - As a compromise between AoE and Priority damage, Colonna di Fuoco at 4+ targets.
  - Never Colonna di Fuoco during Inferno di Fuoco. Pirosfera is better above 90% because Pirosfera is guaranteed to Crit.

  Meteora right before your pre-cast for Combustione in Aoe, or without Surriscaldamento.
  
  If you don't have a Detonazione di Fuoco charge, you can either hold on to a Serie Bollente, or cast another Bruciatura after Combustione.

When it describes Flamestrike under "Baseline Offensive Abilities", it says Flamestrike slows the target's movement speed by 50%. However, it only slows their movement speed by 20%.

this is all very well giving a rotation im 470 lvl had stacked 43% crit chance at one point and once combustion finishes i am stuck spamming fireball sometimes up to SIX with NO crits have submitted bug reports but NOTHING even now as soon as combustion finishes even on raid bosses im stuck spamming fireball sometimes with all 3 fireblasts on cd with rune of power down i get NO fireball crits anyone got any ideas how to combat this ?

Rune of Power should be higher priority than Shifting Power. If cast first, the cooldown reduction allows for two runes before the next combustion.

I understand that the first instant Pyroblast is generated by the Hot Streak that comes from the initial Fireball hitting when Combustion is active, and right after the first Fireblast. But then, I see a second Fireblast before the second Pyroblast. How come? Wouldn't that spoil one Hot Streak? Why not casting the second Fireblast right before the first instant-Piroblast lands instead of before casting the Pyroblast? What am I missing here?

If I'm not mistaken, there's something absolutely crucial missing from this guide.

Outside of combustion, when Heating Up is generated, you still cast another fireball. You (almost) never do anything else. On each fireball, IF the previous was a crit, then you Fireblast in the middle of your fireball cast and then instant-cast Pyroblast immediately at the end of your Fireball cast. They will hit at roughly the same time, and due to the way that Heating Up is coded, if EITHER of them Crits, you will end up with Heating Up --- even if the one that hit first crit and the second one didn't.

If I was a new mage reading this I would read your rotation guide as "if you proc Heating Up, immediately cast Fireblast and then Pyroblast.", which is wrong.

Actually this is completely wrong considering he isnt even in complexity limit no more. Pre Pull in raids.... hardcast pyroblast on 3 secs on pull timer... double fire blast on pull into another instant pyro popping any trinkets u have with the keybind of mouse wheel up and down. so u have ur 2 infernal cascade charges from the 2 fire blasts. Into a pheonix flames into pyro then the other fire blast. if you are lusting on pull do the same on pull except use your last fire blast charge then shifting power to regain all fire blast charges then use all fireblast charges for instant pyros then if time left use 1 or 2 pheonix flames. if ur being PI'ed on pull u will get extra 2 or 3 pyros from pheonix flames :)

1. Four seconds before pull: hard-cast a Flamestrike
2. Cast Combustion and Fire Blast over .5 seconds before the Flamestrike cast ends

This would make you pull before the pull timer ends. I understand that's what's best for your spec's optimization but you shouldn't pull before the timer because then you screw your entire group that relies on the timer for their own prepull abilities.

i just came back from a 3-4 month wow brake and i thought, why not try out my old mage which i haven't played since dreanor.

Can someone eleborate on step 3 of the general opener for Fire Mages

Time Warp twice for Temporal Warp.

So, I'm not a Fire Mage or even Mage expert but the way I read this ability you can't use Time Warp twice because it's on cooldown for 5 minutes after the first use. This certainly has to be a mistake?

For Frostfire, firing the empowered frostfire bolt immediately stacks frostfire mastery to full.

This means in the opener you want to toss it out early to max your mastery stacks for the rest of your combust window.

Pre-cast pyro/FFB + PF > Meteor > Combust > Pyro > FB > Pyro > Empowered-FFB > Pyro > Phoenix flames (to burn excess frost as it's now capped at 2) > pyro > FB > pyro > etc.

Tossing out the empowered FFB spikes your dps in the opener as it prevents you building haste + mastery % in combust & maxes them both instantly. I still spend 1 FB first to put it on CD as I run unleashed inferno, which I find to be more dps than SKB but that might change as I get more haste - not sure yet
