((I felt emotion as I wrote this one… Previous parts found on my homepage.))
-Khaz looked at his hand uncomprehendingly as the red water soaked through his glove and into his skin.
“Finally…”
the wind whispered,
“We have a mortal host.”
Khaz flexed his shoulders. He felt… strong. He looked down at Khorin, who had finally gained control of himself, although he still gasped for breath.
-“Are you alright?” he asked the priest concernedly. Khorin nodded and stood. The altar still gleamed dimly in the blackness, covered by strange symbols. Khaz avoided it as he pulled up Khorin and they walked outside the room.
-They came to a staircase leading upward, which they climbed. Eventually it leveled out. “Hey look where we are. More cave,” said Khan sarcastically. Khorin chuckled, and held out his hand. Light blossomed from it, revealing the tunnel continued, then rose. “That might be the way out,” said Khorin. Khaz nodded and they started toward the end.
-Khorin’s predictions proved correct. They neared the end of the tunnel and felt fresh air on their faces. Khaz was about to continue up the stairs when he felt a prickle on the back of his neck. He turned, rifle in hand, to see spiders crawling from the deep. Except these were no natural spiders… “Nerubians!” cursed Khorin.
-Khorin threw his hands forward and Light flashed from them. The first Nerubian shrieked as its head, then the rest of its body, caught fire and burned to ashes. Khaz fired his rifle, and the next one shuddered as the bullet pierced its brain. It took two more steps then collapsed. Khorin started throwing holy bolts as fast as he could, destroying two more Nerubians, but it wasn’t enough.
-Khorin grabbed a Nerubian’s head in his hands, channeling holy magic. The head caught fire, and it started shrieking, and pulled Khorin closer. He yelled, and tried to pull away, but the fire leapt onto his clothing, setting them alight. Khaz looked on in horror as the other Nerubians swarmed the burning dwarf.
-“Run!” he heard Khorin cry. “Run Khaz, get away!” And to Khaz’s eternal shame, he did just that. He turned and fled. He took one look back over his shoulder to see the priest smile in… relief? He started to glow, and vanished in a burst of light. Khaz wished he could say that the priest had teleported away, but he knew better. The priest’s soul had gone to the Light, which could only mean he was dead.
-Khaz stumbled out of the tunnel and ran as fast as he could. In some distant portion of his mind he noted that the landscape was different from the Wetlands and Loch Modan. The ground was grassy and there were trees around him, but it was all… wrong. The trees were throbbing and the grass was a sickly green color. The sky was a shade of blue which came at twilight, yet there was no sun visible. He must be in the Tirisfal glades, yet all that were around him were mountains.
-He felt a taint on the land, so strong that even he, one who doesn’t practice magic, could feel it. He started off, noting the trees all around him. “The same trees which the altar is made out of…” he thought. Something clicked in the back of his mind, but he couldn’t think what it could be. Eventually he hit the side of the glade and up to the mountains, more like jagged cliffs than mountains. He came to a small tunnel. It was small, with jagged walls. The ceiling was bound with the same wood as the trees, keeping it from collapsing.
-Khaz cautiously crept inside. He didn’t want to go through, but he felt that he had no choice. The rest of the valley walls certainly looked barren, but more importantly, completely sealed. He sighed and walked through the tunnel. Eventually he arrived at the end of the tunnel, which dropped and then rose. He came out through the trunk of a tree, the same tree as the ones in the glade. The door in the trunk sealed so perfectly it was impossible to see.
-He quickly ran along the roads, moving into the country on either side to avoid Forsaken. Eventually he hit Brill. There, in front of him, was a Scourge Death Knight. It raised its hand, and Khaz froze, literally. The Death Knight, a draenei, walked forward and grabbed Khaz, taking him east…
-Eventually they hit the Eastern Plaguelands. There, they passed by gryphon over the Scarlet Enclave. Khaz looked fearfully around, the ice now melted off. Crusaders looked up and pointed, raising bows. Khaz waved and tried to tell them he was an ally, only to receive a backhand from the draenei. But in that critical moment of inattention, the Crusaders fired. Arrows streaked upward, striking the gryphon. It shrieked, but was already dead.
-The draenei landed on a nearby building and ran across the wall, into lines of waiting Scourge. Khaz looked on in horror as they dragged him to a shack set up by the chapel. They chained him and left him to the sounds of battle…
